Best College Point Guard to ever play???

Postby Air Zoom Kobe I on Mon Jul 16, 2007 11:28 am

I thought I should start a thread on the best NCAA point guards to ever play. From what i think, I have to say out of all of the point guards i've seen like the Jason Kidds, the John Stocktons, the Blake Stepps, the Magic Johnsons, etc., my opinion is that Mike Bibby, yes that's right, Mike Bibby is the best college point guard i've seen in a while. What point guard do you know that can lead his team in scoring, assists, FT percentage, FT attempts, and offensive rebounding AS A FRESHMAN?? And they won the National Title that year as well.

My top 5 is.....

1. Mike Bibby
2. Magic Johnson
3. Jason Kidd
4. Pistol Pete Maravich
5. John Stockton

Honorable Mentions

Isiah Thomas
Jalen Rose
Allen Iverson
Jason Williams(Duke, Not FLORIDA)
Taureran Green.

WHO DO YOU THINK IS THE BEST COLLEGE POINT GUARD OF ALL TIME???And What is YOUR TOP 5 or 10 Point Guards to ever play???

BTW.......

MY Pac-10 All time team

PG- Jason Kidd
SG- Gilbert Arenas
SF- Reggie Miller
PF- Bill Walton
C- Lew Alcindor

6- Luke Walton
7- Richard Jefferson
8- Gary Payton
9- Josh Childress
10. Mike bibby
^Can't think of anyone else right now

I dont get you can say Mike Bibby is the Best College Point to every play, and then name Jason Kidd as the All Pac 10 PG?

John Stockton (Gonzaga) - 20.7PPG | 2.4RPG | 7.2APG

Pete Maravich (LSU) - 44.5PPG | 5.3RPG | 6.2APG

I included Stockton and Maravich in my top 5

I thought Oscar played shooting guard.

Bibby was a sensational freshman PG & since I've been watching college basketball, there's not too many that match up to what he did as a freshman....of course, I only started watching college basketball around 1996....

but your list loses all credibility when you include Chris Duhon of all people (his teammate Jay Williams was a better PG than him anyways, as was probably Bobby Hurley & Johnny Dawkins before him) & exclude players like the Big O....

regardless of whether they were or not, my main point was that you had Chris Duhon in, even though he is clearly not even the best PG that his own school has produced....

Yeah, Bobby Hurley was the best PG from Duke of all time. I can't believe you forgot Jalen Rose from Michigan.

Am I missing something? I said you forgot Maravich, Big O and Stockton, and the only guy you even mentioned was Stockton who was not in your original top 5.

Then you quote yourself with a new list including Pistol, then quote yourself again saying the same thing ("I included Stockton and Maravich in my top 5") - even though Stockton still isn't in the list.

I'm lost. :|

Basically I went back and forth with my top 5

Stockton was at #3 in my original then I took him off, then I put him back at #5, seeing that he did more for Gonzaga then Gary Payton did for Oregon State. Maravich has always been there, then I took him and stockton off, and STUPIDLY, put Duhon up there so yea.

And the BIG O was a shooting guard at Cincinnati most of the time.

i can only go back to the endd of the 70's myself, i'm a little young to go back futher, but this what i remeber.

and these are guards, and not all may pg, but sg to. its about then the two seem cross anyway, the differance really would be assist in my view and in know parturl order.

hurely
thomas
johnson (not sure if he was sf or sg
rose
payton
and know this last one is sg/ or sf
finally. i think at wisc. is was a sg most of the time
best team you half to look at the mid 70's hoosiers and early nines blue devils, as they wer two or three years pf grates temas, not one single player.
i know some are saying why the ulca teams, the reason i dont have them and sure they are grate, but that before i knew basketball

yep, he was PG on the Fab Five (Rose, King, Jackson, Howard & Webber)....he came into NBA as a 6'8" PG & was inconsistent his first couple of years....once the Pacers got him & used him as a wing, his career improved....but yep, he's definitely got PG skills, you just don't see them anymore....

Fitzy, search for Jalen's Adidas commercial on youtube. It was back when he was a Denver Nugget. He states that he plays the point. :D
