NBA Statues

Postby Zoom on Tue Oct 31, 2006 10:10 am

I was just thinking... Red has a statue, MJ has a statue, Karl Malone or John Stockton or both of them have one?

Name one NBA player of the past and one of the present who most deserve to have one?

And what would the statue be portrayed as doing?

I wasn't sure if Larry Bird has one but if he doesn't, I would say he is one who deserves one. A statue of him with his shooting arm extended after a shot.

And for a player of the present, I would say that LeBron James will get a statue made of him after he retires... it's inevitable only if he stays with the Cavs for his whole career...

Waht do you guys think?

J.R. Rider if they get a team in Vegas. Just seems like he would have represented that city very well lmao. Nah but I think Shaq should get one, always hated him when hes in the East, but very deserving. They changed some rules just like they had to do for Bill, who would also deserve one. Big men just don't get the appreciation they deserve lmao.

Yeah, Shaq has done enough to deserve a statue, but where would you put it? If you look over the past years and see who has the statues, it is the people who dedicated their careers to ONE team ie: (Stockton, Malone, Jordan, Bird, Magic, etc) Where would you put Shaq's statue? Orlando? LA? Miami? That is one of my main beef's with professional sports these days. The only loyalty is to the almighty dollar.

Well I'd have to guess Miami. Orlando got screwed over, so they would probably be too bitter. LA chose Kobe over him, and is now looking like a team thats always just get to the first round (if that far) and get eliminated. So Miami, which probably will see nothing but good times with him, is the only option really.

Really, you think Miami, where Shaq won an NBA title while playing second fiddle to Wade and had by far the worst numbers of his career, is where the statue would go? What about the threepeat in LA? Some people have short memories, or I guess, probably aren't old enough to remember them. Hell, Shaq was as big a deal in Orlando as he was in Miami. Shaq and Penny were once figured to be the begginning of one of the best duo's in NBA history. All in all, I don't think Shaq deserves a statue. He has the numbers and ships and all, but no loyalty = no statue.

I could understand the no loyalty thing in Orlando, but LA wasn't exactly loyal to him. They put him in a position of Shaq and Phil or Kobe, and Phil just happened to come back. Sure hes playing second fiddle, but do you think they really care? How many titles did they win before Shaq? Thats what it comes down to.
