taking the charge...

Here's an interesting comparison done by 82games.com on the NBA's best at drawing offensive fouls. Many are willing to stand and deliver, but less are willing to stand and get delivered. You must also have a card with the Screen Actors Guild.

You just posted that there is a site called 82games.com which is widely known. I know this site called espn.com, but I don't go around posting topics about it.

hehe last year, I led the team in charges... period. And I didn't even play that much. Every time you put me in the game, you could expect me to draw at least two charges...

I had taken 4 charges before someone else took one...

I posted the site and said that they did stats for layups, midrange shots, close shots and takign charges and everything.

hipn wrote:http://82games.com/

It shows the percentage for shots made and attemped for layups, dunks, midrange and other types of shots. Even inlcudes Shot-Clock usage, and the best combo of players on teh court, and so on... they do it for all teams.

It shows stats on offence and defence. It even shows which player takes the most charges and stuff. For example (this is real stats): R Bell (PHX) is ranked #1 on taking charges and so far he has taked/drawn 50.

Raja is definitely a surprise. I never realized they did those kinda things in Phoenix.

I guess he was brought in for that purpose but to see that he is a leader in that category is surprising. Never knew he was effective to that extent as I only watch Phoenix when their game is tnt, espn or whatnot.

The #s will be slightly skewed because of Phoenix's pace, so ALL stats are a bit higher for Phoenix players, good & bad.

But damn good stuff from Bell & Diaw regardless, Phoenix may unseat San Antonio at finding hidden talent in the NBA.

Interesting that the Pistons are so low in the tally.

I would like to look at last seasons... I'm sure it was much higher with Larry Brown.

hmm, do you guys think that drawing charges have as much effect on defense as they are said to be? Because I think its interesting that Phx is the leader in drawing charges, but there points given up is the 6th worst in the league. I reckon its got more to do with the pace of game that a team plays that determines this maybe? Like... how if the Suns play fast break all the time, the other team usually also goes on the break more often, so players will be relatively "more out of control" and will have more people charging.

Agreed, but the Pistons are an intelligent defensive team. I would have expected them to be higher, not necessarily first because of the factors you mentioned but higher than fourth-last.

Personally, I really don't like the offensive charge call, at least when im on offence. It slows down the pace and flow of the game, and this kind of defence doesn't get you a reputation on the playground. :( . Raja Bell actually does hit the ground quite a bit, but I would of thought Ginobli was in the front of the pack. I really despise how that guy just throws his hands into the air whenever someone touches him. Pity the refs are gay and fall for it every time.
