Huge argument with a friend.

Well , me and my friend have been arguing for hours on Marbury . I say hes one of the top 5 pg's in the league , he says no . I say a PG now has to score because theres barely any PG's that are pass first . He says yea , but Marbury isn't a good PG . Well , I told him to give me a list of who are the top 5 pg's in the league right now that he would take over marbury .

The point guard position is a lot like the quarterback position in the NFL. You can have a pass first point guard (pocket passing QB) or you can have a scoring PG (scrambling QB). It all depends on the system that the offense is running. The Washington Wizards system is perfect for a point guard like Gilbert Arenas. The Phoenix Suns system is perfect for a point guard like Steve Nash. Just like in the NFL the Colts system is perfect for a quarterback like Peyton Manning and the Falcons system is perfect for a quarterback like Michael Vick.

The score first point guards aren't the old school point guards many have come to know. Kind of like how the Michael Vick's and Randall Cunningham's weren't the old school quarterbacks in the NFL. It all depends on the system, and that's why comparing two point guards is so difficult these days because they are asked to do different things.

Let's put it this way: Gilbert Arenas couldn't come in and do what Steve Nash is doing in Phoenix. However, there is no way Steve Nash could go into Washington and do what Gilbert Arenas is doing. The system fits the personal. They are creating a revolution and adding a new dimension to the point guard position we never thought of before.

So that is that. I'm sick of people saying this guy is better because he is a pass first point guard. It doesn't matter in today's day in age.

The definition of PG didn't change, it's always been the same: win the basketball game.

"Star"bury has been a lot of teams and hasn't had much impact on their winning. Phoenix did better with Kidd, Nets are doing better with Kidd, and Phoenix is doing better with Nash, and Knicks were a joke last few years.

This may be the year he can redeem himself. Now with a big man Shaq called the future, a talented rookie 6'11" backup, and a 280 lb shot blocker as 3rd string, NY can't complain about lack of size anymore. They've got one of the best 3 point shooters in the league in Q-Rich and Crawford backing him up...Crawford would be starting in most other teams in the L. And now with the best X's & O's coach in the league, and a draft steal for a backup PG, Marbury is officially out of excuses.

If he doesn't deliver this year, he'll be branded a 2nd tier PG forever.

i think winning does play a little factor in this, but not all.

is parker any better then the best pg's because he's a role player on a championship? he's still a young, erratic, shoot first pg to me, above average PG to me

as far as nY, there's going to be some turnover with the new coach in town. this year can't be a make or break season for Marbury

Im not quite sure how TJ Ford became a Top 5 PG in the space of a few days, I bet that means Michael Redd is now better than Kobe, Bron, Tmac, Vince, PP and Ray.

When Marbury was in NJ he didn't have the same team Kidd did.

I usually go into more detail. But while Stephon was there they didn't have Jefferson, Martin was still a REAL youngster, and they lost all kinds of games to injury. And Phoenix blew up their team the off-season they got Marbury, then in 03 the team he led (and I truly mean it, he was the leader of that team) gave future champs San Antonio the hardest challenge they had the entire playoffs.

I think a good point guard can do both, pass and score, and then adapt his game to what the team needs. Thats what seperates Kidd and Iverson from Bibby. Bibby can be surrounded by a healthy webber and Peja, but he'll still be only concerned with shooting.

As for Marbury, he has shown glimpses of being able to lead a team by getting teamates involved like in 2003, and also knows when he has to literrally put a team on his back like he has had to do in NYK. I cant believe how this guy is held accountable for how his teamates execute.

i was thinking about putting arenas on there but if you watched the game against the raps the other day the dude almost cost them the game. jamison was the hot man all game but somehow he kept running down the clock and going iso, and 2 of those times he was unsuccessful. once he turned it over, the other one was a charge. i also don't like listing allen iverson as a point guard because i still think he's a shooting guard.. but he's pretty damn good at setting up people.

i think Steve Nash is a bit overrated. What has changed since joining from Dallas? Nothing, he hasn't actually improved, he still plays the same way except the guys around him and Phoenix' system is much better suited to his strengths which gives the effect of "padding" his stats.

In my opinion, that comes down to two reasons: firstly, he's unfortunate enough to have been in some situations where it's been convenient to lay the blame on him and whenever we humans can find a scapegoat, we don't usually hold back. Second, he can be a bit brash at times which is fine, but it's a characteristic that is notorious for getting on people's nerves.

It might change as he gets older and becomes one of the league's "elder statesmen". After all, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Reggie Miller weren't necessarily well-liked outside of their teams' fanbase but by the end of their careers both received quite a lot of respect and even admiration from fans of rival teams.

For all of you who think Ford isn't one of the top pg's in the league look at his first 2 games this year.He led his team over Iversion's and Kidd's teams which isn't a easy task.Also speed is 1 of the most important factors with a pg , and acording to the gm survey he is the second quickest in the league.
