Golden State Trades Robinson For Two Second Round Picks 02/14 -
6:26 PM

The Golden State Warriors have traded forward Clifford Robinson to the New Jersey Nets in exchange for two future second round draft picks (2005 & 2007) and a trade exception from New Jersey equal to the amount of Robinson's salary, Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Mullin announced today.

"First and foremost, we'd like to thank Clifford Robinson for his contributions to the Warriors, " said Mullin. "He's a professional and a great competitor who served this team well for the last two seasons. Additionally, from our standpoint, this trade will provide us with not only two additional draft picks, but also the flexibility that comes with a large trade exception that can be utilized at any point over the next year. "

Robinson, 38, has appeared in 42 games this season (29 starts), averaging 8.5 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.05 steals in 26.0 minutes per contest. He tallied a season-high 25 points at Dallas on December 14 and scored in double-figures 19 times, while topping the 20-point plateau twice. He has missed nine games this season, four due to injury and five due to an NBA suspension, giving him a career total of 28 games missed out of 1,249 regular-season team games played during his 16-year NBA career.

It is a nice grab for NJ, but is Golden State getting enough??

They're getting more than enough for an old, worn-out version of the worst rebounder to ever play center in the NBA.

Yeah, Cliffy's 38, and a couple second rounders could make a steal like Jeff Hornacek.

But what does Golden State have to lose, except what they've been doing all season: losing :)

I like this, it's a nice pick-up for the Nets.

He may be old but he can still contribute, and he doesn't even have to be a starter with Collins and Krstic playing exceptionally well.

But we'll see what G-State can get with those picks...

Good deal for the Nets, give them some options in the frontline.

How old was KG when cliff was called the best def. player? shit, when he was 18?

I like it. Nets got a good deal. Kidd, VC, Buford (when full healthy)/Mercer(ditto), Cliff, Nenad. not a bad lineup.. :)

Golden State also picked up New Jersey's "trade exception." I think this means that they basically receive the Nets mid level exception, and therefore, can sign two players to that salary if they're over the cap. That, plus the two picks is a pretty good pickup for such a worn out veteran, and its not like the Nets are going anywhere.

well, i think nets wasted 2 picks and trade exception on this trade.
even with cliff on their team , i dont think they will make the playoffs. even if they reach, they can compete in teams like heat, cavs and detroit.

they should hold on to that pick and maybe with they can get a 2nd round steal...

Webber & Hill (in their primes) both said that Robinson is the best defender in the L. He'll extend the Nets range, post up some, play D (he's had some good games against Shaq) pass the ball etc. Good pickup however their frontcourt is still thin.

exactly, i don't understand why NJ made the trade. I mean, they clearly don't have a run for the championship this year. Was this trade made just to please Kidd? The Nets are wasting their future for a playoff appearance

During the offseason the Nets traded some of their best players for a bunch of donuts, now they are trying to win every game at all price (Carter, Elden Campbell, and now Clifford Robinson). Contradiction?

this trades has no bearing actually... the nets get a solid veteran to shore up their frontcourt, and then what? bottomline is, robinson is no kenyon martin, and is no zo either.

like the subject title though. very witty. :)

Yea, now the warriors can use the 5.2 mil for a free agent. Plus they are trying to move dale davis and his 10 mil contract so that'll be 15 mil to throw at someone. Good "rebuilding" move since Robinson is old and will be retiring soon.

Zo was averaging like 10-7 and 2 blocks on the Nets, he's got more stamina than Zo, but I wouldn't say he's better.

aint it funny? we have all these 20 year olds doing drugs, then we find out that a 37 year old gramppa in the nba is doing drugs.. just goddamn ironic...

i can't believe he's been in the league for that long and not get caught. you'd think a "veteran" would be able to not get caught smokin' the weed..
