VC officially back?

Postby t-mac&15 on Tue Feb 08, 2005 4:08 pm

hey this is my first post here and recently i've seen vince carter absolutely tearing up teams he plays against. i think that he's turning into at least 75% of his old self but i got some guys that think that he's gonna stay like the vince of his later toronto days. i don't know so if i could have some input it'd be good. thx

Yeah Vince is back. Since he moved to NJ his stats are as good as they were in his best years at toronto, especially looking at his last 2-3 weeks. If no serious injury happens agian he will be good for a while. He can't quite dunk like before but he says he is gonna get working out again.

This might be a bit biased but since carter entered new jersey (forget toronto) do u think he has been playing as well as an MVP candidate??

MVP candidate? well they're 12-10
i don't see him playing good def.. he looks a little slow to me.. and he can't fly like he used to.. lost sum of his explosivness.. but if u check out his stats when he was in toronto HEALTHY.. he can shoot 3's at a high percentage.. and right now.. he is shooting them well.. even tho he can't dunk and explode like before.. he can still get into the lane

i think mvp is a little far-fetched right now for him but i see some flashes of the old vince. he's not as explosive but i saw a game (i think detroit) where he just sliced through the defense like it was air.

if Jason Kidd thinks so... theres a pretty big chance hes as good as he was. I never liked Carter cause i thought he was overrated.. but after he beat LA yesterday... i think he is respectable baller. Good luck to nets and him... (Y)

EDIT: ummm... my bad.. it wasnt against Lakers... it was against Philly i believe!

So if Wang Zhizhi did well against the Lakers and beat them, would you believe?

12-10 in East is not MVP. He hasn't played like a top 10.

12-10 ok, but it's taken him a while for him to get used to the Nets gameplan and become accusotmed with the team. Plus he was fighting the injury.

He's not an MVP, could be a bottom Eastern candidate along with Kidd, but that team doesn't have enough talent outside of those 2 to really go anywhere.

He's averaging 25.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, 5.2 assists, 1.26 steals, 45.9% FG, 41.9% 3PT

He's basically playing like he was last season but in a better offense because Kevin O'neil's offense was terrible.

I love the way Carter is playing. 43 last night and 41 the night before.
The guy is good!!

NJ just has no other options right now. Even if Kidd and VC keep combining for 60 + they are still going to have problems beating good teams.

Not even close to an MPV candidate... but yes he is showing up as of late.

His problem is inconcistency though. Lets see if he can play this way for the rest of the season...

my money is on no.

Inconsistency is a problem for every perimeter player in the league, but being a perimeter player you have to find ways to contribute when you're shot isn't on, or your scoring isn't working ie: passing, rebounding, defense etc.

Well to sum up his new play style....(Please guys forgive me for using this as an example) He looks like MJ in his later years Less on the dunking more on the Shooting and Team Play. Hes turned into a completly different player and hes more well rounded now, And yea i think hes defentnly a MVP candidate if he can keep this up and maybe get some of his old dunking skill back.

That's just the thing. He doesn't play behind the arc at all. He takes it to the rack on almost every occasion.

Yes, he's taking 6% less jumpshots in comparison to Toronto, and drawing 0.6% more fouls, okay, that's not significant at all, but he's averaging 0.6 more points on dunks per game. Okay, basically he's just making more of his shots.

He has been playing well, very well.

We'll see what happens if he gets injured. I found that after every long injury, he looses his confidence and drive. Maybe that won't be the case in New Jersey. *shrugs*

Almost everybody will be freakin' scared of going to the hoop after having a long injury. He hasn't had a long injury in some time now, so that's why he's attacking the rim, IMO.

He'll be injured in no time, just wait and see.
Maybe even in the All-Star game... :P
