NEW YORK -- Every time the Knicks don't compete and end up on the wrong end of a lopsided score, the immediate reaction in New York is the same:

Thomas, looking over Wilkens' shoulder, is always making moves, just as when he played.
"So is this when Isiah fires Lenny?"

They're such big names on the American professional sports scene, you don't need their last names.

There's Isiah Thomas, the ex-Pistons great and current Knicks president who has been entrusted to build a championship team. And there's Lenny Wilkens, the Hall of Fame player and coach who is viewed in some quarters as nothing more than a caretaker until Thomas decides it's time to return to the sidelines.

The knicks are still losing, and losing so much that they are right now the 10th seed now. 3 way tie with philly and boston for the 8th ( err 3rd) seed.

the winner of the atlantic division looks like they may be the lone team to respresent the division in the playoffs.

Bad mistake. Changing the coach won't solve the Knicks' woes. Red Auerbach couln't turn this team around. You can't make chicken salad out of chicken s---. Like Bill Parcells said, you are what your record is. Knicks are mediocre at best, with too many soft players who aren't committed to playing consistent defense. Because of our salary cap nightmare, it'll take years before Isiah can bring in A-list players to make us what we were during the Riley years.

Charles Barkley once said the worst place for an NBA team is to be stuck in the middle, and that's where the Knicks are. We're not bad enough to get high-end draft picks, and not good enough to compete for a title. What the Knicks should do is tank a few seasons(like the Spurs) so they can rebuild with top draft picks. But that'll never happen - all this sorry-a$$ owner talks about is winning a title. He has no clue - Knicks are light-years away from that. Dolan doesn't care if the Knicks get swept in the first round, as long as he can fill up the Garden, jack up ticket/cable prices and rake in the loot. Rebuild is a bad word in NYC.

In other words, fellow Knick fans, we're f----d.

they have a fantastic backcourt, they just need to make some sort of move to get them out of the funk they are in right now.

Right or wrong, the coach usually absorbs the blame for the team's shortcomings so I'd agree that Lenny Wilkens' days as coach of the Knicks are numbered. The question now is will Isiah indeed appoint himself head coach while retaining his front office duties? While I'd agree with popular opinion that it is quite likely, I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt as far as the whole "caretaker" suggestion is concerned and say that it isn't necessarily given...or planned that way, at any rate.

Atlantics division is so terrible (and yet i got bagged by someone for saying that Sth East wasn't the worst)....even with this terrible play Knicks can secure the 3rd seed....i doubt that Boston or Philly will gain a considerable advantage over NYK anytime soon.
