Top Jersey Sales, LeBron and Carmelo lead list

Postby Colin on Fri Apr 09, 2004 3:39 pm

Information is from two articles, one from ]ESPN, and one from nba.com

ESPN wrote:Since James' jersey hit the market on June 26, more than 1.5 million Cavaliers jerseys with his name and No. 23 -- 5,542 per day -- have been sold nationwide, according to Neil Schwartz, director of marketing for SportsScanINFO, a sports retail tracking firm. The league sold more than 630,000 of Anthony's Nuggets jersey.

The Top 25 Players
1 LeBron James, Cavaliers
2 Carmelo Anthony, Nuggets
3 Stephon Marbury, Knicks
4 Tracy McGrady, Magic
5 Allen Iverson, 76ers
6 Tim Duncan, Spurs
7 Kobe Bryant, Lakers
8 Steve Francis, Rockets
9 Shaquille O'Neal, Lakers
10 Scottie Pippen, Bulls
11 Gary Payton, Lakers
12 Jermaine O'Neal, Pacers
13 Penny Hardaway, Knicks
14 Rasheed Wallace, Pistons
15 Vince Carter, Raptors
16 Allan Houston, Knicks
17 Paul Pierce, Celtics
18 Yao Ming, Rockets
19 Kevin Garnett, Timberwolves
20 Baron Davis, Hornets
21 Latrell Sprewell, Timberwolves
22 Jalen Rose, Raptors
23 Jason Richardson, Warriors
24 Chris Webber, Kings
25 Jason Kidd, Nets

Top 10 Teams
1 Los Angeles Lakers
2 New York Knicks
3 Philadelphia 76ers
4 Cleveland Cavaliers
5 Chicago Bulls
6 Boston Celtics
7 New Jersey Nets
8 San Antonio Spurs
9 Orlando Magic
10 Denver Nuggets

Little bit suprised by how high Scottie Pippen is, same with Penny and Houston, but since the NBA Store is New York that probably does it. Kind of surprised by how high Jalen Rose is on the list, and really surprised that Jason Kidd is so low. I know so many people with his jersey. Maybe if the ratings considered all jerseys sold, but that would be pretty difficult to keep track of, since not all of the ones they ship out sell etc.

I'm certainly surprised to see Pip in the top ten. It's not really surprising that LeBron is #1 though.

Pippen Jersey sales are probably so high because the people who really wanted a chicago pippen jersey in the 90's but couldn't get one are making up for it now that he is back on the chicago bulls.

I bet if the NBA Store was in Vancouver the Mavs would be the top selling team because of the abundance of our home-province boy's jersey.

I never thought of that about Pip, couldn't they just get a Bulls jersey personalized to say Pip though? I mean these sales are only from the NBA Store in NYC, and the NBA Store online. It costs the same.

Good thinking. (Y) I still wouldn't have expected it to be top 10 though. I would have thought jerseys like Vince Carter's and Kevin Garnett's would sell better than Pip's these days.
