Transparency Issue

Fri May 02, 2003 5:44 am

Hi everyone. I am dealing with NHL 2002, but I'm hoping that you NBA Live fans can assist me in hopes that making background transparent is a common issue between the games....

Here's what I tried...

I opened my asst.png and capn.png into Adobe Photoshop. It was red letters on that neon green background. I traced around the "A" and "C" letters so that the green background would be eliminated and I would just get the letters "A" and "C". I then pasted each letter to a new image that had a transparent background. So after pasting, the picture had that "checkered look" as the background and the red letter "A" was in there centered. (I did this for the "C" one as well.) I saved each file to PNG format. (asst.png & capn.png). I then used GFXPAK to import it into uni0010.fsh

I went to run the game and the transparency didnt work. What I saw was a neon green background around the "A" and "C".

I tried doing the transparency on the jerseys.viv file (you know the part in the game where you are choosing which jersey you want to choose right before playing the actual game) Same thing here, I got a black background rather than a transparent one.

So the Transparency from Adobe, saving to PNG format and importing back wth gfxpak did not work for me. I tried this with other images within the game as well.

Am i missing a step?

Thanks for your time!

UPDATE
--------------------
Ive tried some more....

In EA Graphics Editor, I extracted the 0010 file from gui\jerseys.viv and saved to my desktop in PNG format.

I went into Adophe Photoshop, opened up the 0010.png file and then created a NEW png file (same dimensions) that had a transparent background. From my 0010.png file, I then traced around the jersey, and pasted it into the new transparent background file. I then overwrote my file so that it now has a transparent background with the jersey centered.

I placed the 0010.png file under the nHL2000 directory and ran the following in DOS:

gfxpak -rp gui\jerseys.viv\tor0011.fsh 0010.png 0010

everything was successful. So then I go into EA Graph to double check my work. To see if the new updated pic is in there...and it is. The background is now black, but thats how the rest of them are for the other teams.

So i run NHL 2002, get to the part where you pick your jersey...and my custom jersey STILL isnt transparent. It has a black background instead.

I imported it with GFXPAK as instructed here. But is there any other tweaks that Im suppose to do to the file? Is it set to a wrong bit rate for color?

Thanks everyone.

This is not the place to get support for GFXPak

Try saving your pic as a 24bit bmp. Open the pic in EAGE. Convert it to a 32 bit bitmap. (see the colors menu item). Then use the transparency editor to make the areas you wish transparent.

Then..... USE EAGE to import your graphic :P
