NBA Live 2000 PC Online Port Forwarding?

Hey everyone, I recently dug up my NBA Live 2000 PC disc, and installed it on Windows 7 (which works like a charm, believe it or not). But I want to play it with a friend who also has it via Direct IP Connect mode. Do we have to port forward our routers in order to do so, because I can't find anything online that tells which ports you must forward, or if you even have to port forward. So if anyone knows if I have to port forward in order to play online, and/or knows the ports I must forward, please reply! Thanks
