Can't get NBA Live 98 and 2000 to work on a Windows XP machine.

Talk about NBA Live 95-2002 here.

Can't get NBA Live 98 and 2000 to work on a Windows XP machine.

Postby ENunn on Fri May 26, 2017 4:19 am

So I'm trying to run NBA Live 98 and 2000 on my Dell XPS 400 running Windows XP SP3. I know I can run them on a virtual machine but I'd rather have it on a real machine. It's got a Radeon X600 and a 2.8 ghz Pentium D.

NBA Live 98 doesn't run at all. No error message, just nothing. Installed the nGlide patch to no avail.

NBA Live 2000 gives me an error message saying:
"Unhanded Exception 0xC0000005 occurred at address 0x6000C328
Stack Trace Univailable"

Installing the nGlide patch does make the game properly start up. However, it runs at a snail's pace. It's really slow.

Can anyone help?

For Live 2000, Go to My Computer > (Harddrive Component)> Program Files > EA Sports > NBA Live 2000 > setup > 3DSetup (Applications) and confirm that your installed graphics card is selected as your 3D Graphics Renderer, rather than the "Software Renderer" (XP default). After confirming/switching that setting, you should be able to run Live 2000 without problem. I do not quite recall, but you may have to reinstall the game software, or at least reboot the system, before running. But I do not think this is the case . . .

Good Luck,

Yeah it detects the correct graphics card and it is set to it. I tried to reinstall the game and rebooted to no avail.

Do none of the fixes listed in this thread work? viewtopic.php?f=19&t=100812

Nope. Still have the same issue. It's very weird since it usually runs on XP just fine.

Strange. Using those methods I've been able to get both games running fine on Windows 7 64 bit without having to use VMWare, which has been a lot more convenient.

Just a little update, I still haven't found a fix for getting Live 98 working.

I did install the official patch for Live 98 but it still has the same issue, nothing happens when I launch it. I also tried Windows 95 compatibility mode and it still doesn't work. When I reinstalled the game, setup said something like "Cannot detect hardware!" or something. Running the setup in Windows 95 compatibility got rid of the error.

Both the Live 98 and 2000 autoruns on the discs wouldn't start up when I double clicked on the AUTORUN.EXE, so I had to launch the setup programs through the setup/english folder.

However, I did get Live 2000 finally working and it runs really smoothly! A few weeks ago I upgraded the graphics card on this thing to an NVIDIA GeForce 7900GS. Don't know if that fixed it or what.

Although I do have a weird issue with Live 2000, when I load a game the loading screens are kinda glitchy.

The glitch doesn't happen when I run the game with Windows 98 compatibility, but the game runs at like 10 fps when I have that on. Really strange.

Like I said I have yet to get Live 98 working. If anyone can think of anything, let me know.

Yeah, that's a known XP issue. Using the fixes in the aforementioned thread on a Windows 7 machine, I actually don't have the glitched loading screens.
