NBA Live 2001 crashes!!! :x

I installed NBA Live 2001 on my computer, and it runs fine by itself. HOWEVER, whenever I install any kind of patch, the game crashes when it has to show a picture of a player that was created in the patch (ie: rookies like Brad Miller, Tayshaun Prince, etc.) or player face patches (ie: Ben Wallace with the afro). The game crashes and dumps me to the desktop. HELP PLEASE!!!

Computer info:
1 GB Pentium III
WIN XP
NVIDIA GeForce 4 MX 420 video card
384 MB ram
