Which gameplay sliders do you want to see in NBA Live 16?

Gameplay sliders are supposedly one of the customisation options that will be returning in NBA Live 16. It's certainly a popular Wishlist item, so I thought it'd be a good idea to discuss which sliders we'd actually like to have in-game.

There have been times playing NBA Live 15 where I've thought "if I could just tweak this or that, it would hardly be an issue". Here are the sliders that I'd like to have:

General Gameplay

  • Game Speed
  • Free Throw Difficulty
  • Injury Frequency (assuming of course, that in-game injuries are implemented)
  • Injury Severity (how frequently severe injuries occur, assuming once again they're implemented during gameplay)
  • Charge/Block Frequency
  • Shooting Foul Frequency
  • Reach-in Foul Frequency
  • In-Air Collision Foul Frequency
  • Fatigue Effect
  • Momentum Impact
  • Comeback Ability/Effectiveness/Frequency (the higher the slider, the more often comebacks occur)

Gameplay Elements

These would apply to both the user and CPU, some obviously being specific to the user or AI.

  • Steal Ability/Frequency
  • Shot Block Ability/Frequency
  • Dunk & Layup Block Ability/Frequency
  • Interception Ability/Frequency
  • Dunk vs. Layup Frequency
  • Offensive Rebounds Ability/Frequency
  • Defensive Rebounds Ability/Frequency
  • Dribble Ability/Effectiveness (how easy it is to elude and blow by defenders with dribbling moves)
  • Elusive Move Ability/Effectiveness (how effective pro-hops, Euro-steps, step-backs and whatnot are)
  • Fakeout Discipline (how easy it is to get players to bite on pump fakes, jab steps, etc)
  • Inside Shooting Ability
  • Mid-Range Shooting Ability
  • Three-Point Shooting Ability
  • Dunk Ability
  • Lay-up Ability
  • Mid-Air Adjustment Frequency
  • Mid-Air Adjustment Ability
  • On-Ball Defense Assist/Buffer
  • On-Ball Physicality
  • Altered Shot Ability/Effectiveness
  • Poor Release Ability (compensate for jumpshot releases that aren't perfectly timed)
  • Alley-oop Frequency/Ability
  • Pass accuracy

I would add these to your list-
General help defense
Pre Rotation
Collapse
Close Out
Hands/strip
Pass tip
Rebound tip
loose ball dive
off-balance shot ability
star calls

I want to have a robust amount of sliders to adjust the physical momentum of players and how responsive the animations are, even if it breaks proper foot planting. They could all be fine tuned elements to a slider like game speed or animation speed.

One set of these for on-ball, one set for off-ball-

-first step from a stationary position(one for dribbling, one for triple threat)
-first step from a stationary position while using turbo(one for dribbling, one for triple threat)
-(2 more like the two above but while being bodied up)
-time it takes to come to a full stop when moving
-time it takes to come to a full stop when moving while using turbo
-(2 more like the two above but while a defender is in contact with you)
-time it takes to change direction when moving
-time it takes to change direction when moving while using turbo
-(2 more like the two above but while a defender is in contact with you)
-time it takes to stop after coming down from the air(this needs to be adjusted for the length of the jump as well)
-time it takes to stop after coming down from the air after a collision
-player speed while being bodied by a defender
-player speed while being bodied by a defender while using turbo
-acceleration speed
-acceleration speed while bodied by a defender
-(the 2 above but while pressing turbo)

-lateral first step speed
-lateral first step speed while in contact
-(the 2 above but while pressing turbo)
-time it takes to come to a stop while moving laterally
-time it takes to come to a stop while moving laterally while in contact
-(the 2 above but while pressing turbo)\
-time it takes to change direction while moving laterally
-time it takes to change direction while moving laterally while in contact
-(the 2 above but while pressing turbo)

A couple random I would like to see

-play call variety(teams just seemed to run the same play over and over during some parts of the game, which made it stale)
-crowd reaction intensity
-cpu defensive adjustment strategy ability. Increasing this should give the cpu a better defensive strategy and not a boosted defensive rating. As an example, this year it could have benefited by recognizing the amount of inside scoring it's opponent was getting, and changed their strategy to crowd the paint, go under screens, force middle into their crowd of defenders, etc.

Good list. (Y) Help Defense and CPU Adjustment Ability are definitely important areas to tweak. The "Sink or Swim" slider from NBA Live 09/10 might also be useful.

EDIT: Something else that came to mind after reading another thread, that I completely forgot about when compiling my list: the issue with guarded/contested shots registering too easily on looks that should be wide open.

Part of that comes down to fixing the AI under the hood, but it might also help if there's a Open/Contested/Guarded Shot Threshold slider that we could adjust. By tweaking the threshold, it would be possible to have a really small and precise window count as an open shot, or conversely allow for more leeway. That way, if the AI is a bit sketchy and open shots too easy or too difficult to come by, we could adjust the slider. An Open Shot Percentage slider to accompany it probably wouldn't be out of order either, so that open shots aren't too easy to make when they do present themselves.

I would go as far as having three sliders for defending shots.

Defensive Contest effectiveness
Shot bother effectiveness or partial contest effectiveness or even defender proximity effectiveness
Open shot effectiveness.

So, three levels that we can adjust that gives us control over a number of possible outcomes.

I think 2k has a pretty good handle on the slider list which is what id like to see in Live 16 to some element.

Works for me. I'm just hoping they can cover the absolute basics though, with a decent handful of advanced/in-depth sliders on top of that. I have a feeling there won't be as many we've listed here, but it's definitely worth throwing out the suggestions all the same.

I would like a basic slider set, along with an optional or experimental advanced set of tuning variables that you can enable and modify, but with a warning to the user that it could cause unwanted results to the gameplay and to proceed at our own risk.
