Metric Measurements

Postby Andrew on Tue Nov 17, 2015 7:37 pm

I've mentioned this on the Podcast a couple of times before, and in the impressions thread, but NBA Live 16 unfortunately brought back one of my pet peeves from NBA Live 09 and NBA Live 10: the PAL/International version uses metric measurements instead of imperial (ie centimetres and kilograms rather than feet, inches, and pounds).

Now, this obviously isn't the biggest issue with NBA Live 16. It's something that I can overlook, and there are more important things to fix. But it is distracting as far as the presentation is concerned, and while I'm used to using the metric system having grown up with it, I actually tend to think in imperial measurements when it comes to basketball (certainly the NBA, at least). I'm kind of hoping they can patch in a toggle or remove metric measurements from the international release in favour of imperial measurements, but if not, I hope it's one of the small things they change for NBA Live 17...especially since I'm also hoping they bring back roster editing and the traditional Create-a-Player. Strange as it may sound - given that I'm living in a country that uses metric measurements normally - when it comes to the NBA games, I'd much rather work in feet, inches, and pounds.

I'm from Eastern Europe and would like to see metric system in the game. I think there is more accurate system without up to 3 cm difference in inches, but I cannot to establish that on my X1: I have downloaded the game from Colombia – there was pounds and inches, re-download from Poland Xbox Live – the same issue. :P ^^

There is not a big problem for me, there are pounds and inches, Ok I accept that. :)

I much prefer the metric system for use in daily life, but the NBA uses imperial measurements. Therefore, for accuracy and authenticity, I believe NBA video games should also use imperial measurements. Like I said, it detracts from the presentation.

sure, the metric system allows for more accuracy, but in a league where players' heights get boosted arbitrarily and weight is more or less the same from year to year I don't think that makes a big difference

NOBODY in basketball refers to there hight as being 210cm or whatever they say 7 foot...

If your making an nba game you think they would take that knowledge on board

Exactly. I was hoping we'd seen the last of it when it wasn't an issue in NBA Live 14 or NBA Live 15. I'm guessing it comes down to a regional/language setting on the console (apparently it's the same with NBA 2K16 in certain countries, fortunately for me Australia isn't one of them), but it'd be better to have an in-game toggle.

I think player should be able to choose the input (imperial vs metric), but the presentation should be in imperial units.

Agreed. An in-game choice would be great, but imperial should always be the default, for the sake of accuracy and authenticity.

Just changed my Xbox Live region to Germany! And – – the natural metres and kilograms! Crazy! I love this game! :applaud:

Das ist keine Problem für mich, so! ;)

Agree... I have been trying many English regions incl. European and Australian as well as non Englich like Polish or Russian where the game has not translated, but there were only foots and inches. Germany with EA localization is a solution. ;)

My stance on the matter is still unchanged. It's an NBA game, and the NBA uses the imperial system, so that should be the default setting in-game.
