Tutorial: Importing 3D BEARD AND HAIR

Postby Kevin on Mon Aug 04, 2014 12:32 am

In this tutorial, I am going to teach you how to import 3d hair from one cyberface to another. This so-called technique is great if the player that you are creating grew a beard in the offseason or in the middle of the season.

For example, Kyle O’Quinn currently has a full-grown beard and so, we need to import a 3d beard/hair from a player who has (a 3D Beard), to a player who doesn't have. (Like O'Quinn)

First, search for a player that has a 3d beard/hair. I found Chris Andersen (png0984)
This is his whole face texture:
Image

Now open another instance of the 3DM Mod Tool and use that to open the player's file that needs the 3d beard. I opened Kyle O’Quinn’s cyberface (png0924).
This is his face texture:
Image

So what you need to do is export the face texture (the 1st one), the arms texture (the 2nd one) and the green texture (the 3rd one),
Image

And finally, export the head shape of O’Quinn (the 1st one below).
Image

After you exported all of the textures of Kyle O’Quinn, go to Chris Andersen’s textures
Image

And import all the dds files that you exported from O’Quinn. The face texture is always the first slot, same with the others. (Face -> Arms -> Green) Always remember FAG.
It should look like this.
Image

Take note of the png file, it is png0924, the cyberface id of Chris Andersen. After importing all of the textures to Chris Andersen’s file, import the head shape of O’Quinn to Andersen’s.
So before we exchanged the shapes, this was the look of Andersen’s 3d model with beard.
Image

After we imported the head shape of O’Quinn, it now looks like this.
Image

See the part where that’s jagged, that is where the 3d beard is currently on. All you need to do now is adjust the size, rotate and scale it in blender and you are good to go. Here is my final preview (I already edited it in blender.)
Image

Good luck on doing your cyberface, I hope I helped you in some way in this tutorial. If this is going to be your first time making a cyberface, don’t worry if it looks bad as you will improve. Just keep practicing and take the criticism for motivation.

Also forgot to say that I already saved Andersen's png file from 0924 to 2492.

What did you do, exactly?

Right click the numbered headshape file then export it. Then, import it into the other cyberface.

Maybe you're doing something wrong. What does the error say? Can you take a screenshot?

I want to add a 3d beard to a player who already has a 0-12 layer of the hair. Is there any way to do it?

Robert Horry is better than MJ, because everybody knows that 7>6.

The model that you're trying to export doesn't matchup with the original. Means you cant.

Maybe it has the same head shape? Read the tutorial first.

This has been bothering me for a while, and I can't seem to find any solution for this anywhere so I'll ask here...

My first attempt at a CF was Jeremy Evans, I followed the instructions above and managed to give him a new hair (also added beard with Photoshop), I adjusted his headshape a bit at Blender and was very satisfied with the end-product. Engaged, I wanted to do another one. I followed the instructions above again and tried to import a random European guy's hair into Kyle Korver (I wanted to update his hair) but it showed a pop-up similar to the one below (it only showed 0-12):

Image

So instead I tried looking for an alternative. So what I did next was import Steve Nash's short hair into a bald Korver (deleted his hair) in Blender. But unfortunately when I tried to import the n2km file into Steve's CF it would show the error similar above.

Frustrated, I gave up and instead went editing George Hill instead. Knowing that I won't need hair meshes which I thought was the main problem, I changed his color to yellow, but instead of adding or using someone's 3D hair mesh, I just enlarged the top portion of his head to make it sure his head doesn't look bald flat with yellow hair texture. But again when I tried importing this back to George Hill's CF it showed the same pop-up again.

I don't know what to do now, can anyone tell me how to get past this? I was really starting to enjoy CF making...

the error is in the 0-1 so it means it's in the headshape. Not sure what the problem is but have you tried resetting it all over again? Restart from the beginning and see if the error still occurs

Kevin, please use chris Andersen model and make him light skin with dark hair and clean shaven hair.
