editing english.iff for 2k14.
First, you need to use 2k9 iff editor beta https://forums.nba-live.com/downloads.php?view=detail&df_id=2500
now, 2k9 iff editor beta does not work on 64 bit systems. When you go to save, then it crashes to desktop. So, maybe a programmer will update it to work with 64 bit systems, but you need access to a 32 bit system.

now you can use 2k9 iff editor in emulator 32bit windowsXP. Or somebody can update it to not crash in 64 bit operating systems.
Anyways, back to english.iff
it is best to use 49, 65 and 68 for 2k14. not sure about other 2k games.
We will be editing font 65 in this tutorial.
font 65 has group0 and group1. group0 is small size fonts, group1 is large size fonts.
the image above has group0 edited (itallic) and group1 default (bold).
Scenario 1-- edit font65 only group0
Always start with default english.iff --- decompress it with 2k12 mod tool.
extract font65 group0 image as dds--- we will save it as group0default.dds
edit edit group0default.dds font letters .... will be white letters on transparent background.
!important! when finished editing .... save as dx5 compression and generate mipmaps ... save as group0edited.dds
import back into english.iff with 2k9 iff editor.
english.iff is finished. new font65.
for font65 this will keep small letters as your new font .... and large letters as default bold font

Scenario 2 --- edit font 65 both group0 and group1 (itallic for both small and large font)
Always start with default english.iff --- decompress it with 2k12 mod tool.
extract font65 group0 image as dds--- we will save it as group0default.dds
edit edit group0default.dds font letters .... will be white on transparent background.
!important! when finished editing .... save as dx5 compression and generate mipmaps ... save as group0edited.dds
import back into english.iff with 2k9 iff editor. Keep 2k9 iff editor open, do not close program.
group0 is now imported correctly. Need to work on group1
now, when you import your dds into english.iff the 2k9 editor changes the alpha layer.
export your image back out with 2k9 edditor ... save as myimagealpha.dds
open myimagealpha.dds in gimp and apply mask (make letter clear and background white) https://i.imgur.com/ak32Fzm.mp4
!important! when saving group1 texture (clear letters/white background) save as dxt5 and DO NOT generate mipmaps --- save as group1import.dds
import your new group1 font into english.iff with 2k9 iff editor.
now, for font 65 both group0 and group1 is edited. small and large font will be ittallic.

end of tutorial. hope it works. might be similar for other games (2k15-2k22) dunno. havent tried.
