NBA 2K14 All Star Weekend and how to proceed? & Questions?
These questions are for association mode:

First Happy Thanksgiving to everyone who lives in the United States! (Y)

I have been playing out every game of my 2023-24 association season 1 using Mackubex’s total conversion mod and association roster to start, with plenty of editing on my part.

I have finally reached the All-star break and All-Star weekend but have also encountered my first crash problem.
Being Thanksgiving Day weekend, I have plans to play several games this weekend and look forward to my first off season with this association, the draft, new rookies (I have added all the new faces) and everything that comes with running an association for multiple years.
But first i need to fix this crash!

Here are the questions I have for the veterans of NBA 2K14:

The game is crashing every time I finish playing the last game right before All Star weekend.
Yes, I am able to sim by it, which is a good thing, to get into All Star weekend.
But I really wish I didn't have to do that, since I have played every game out, I would hate to have to do this and ruin the stats I have with each of the players.

Any ideas why it’s crashing at this point?

Is it possible to fix this crash and play and continue? I am pretty sure it is not a player face crash, because I attempted to play this game out several times and even changed the faces used and the lineup of the players on the floor at the end of this final game; still crashing.
Is this a common problem?
Does All-Star weekend come with problems?

My other questions are:

How are the All-Star game teams and players chosen? Are they pre-determined.

How hard is it to make the team? I have a player averaging 28ppg and near the top of the league in a couple of other categories but hasn’t even sniffed consideration.

Do the players that are set in the original Mackubex association roster I started with, teams (#30 & #31, East & West All Stars) that you see in Red MC under the team's tab are these going to be the all-star players? (Rosters)

Do they change? Each year, and especially in season 1?

RED MC Questions:

Can I edit the All-star team rosters for All Star weekend, before or during?
I have a player who should be on the All-Star team, and would like to see if editing the teams is possible?

Thank you for the answers in advance, and would really like to know how to fix this crash, and if there are more association mode crashes to come?

Thank you,

Happy Thanksgiving! I'll try to answer in the order you stated your questions. I've been messing with 2K14 for a few years now. I wouldn't say I'm an 'expert' per se, but I've run into enough BS with this game that I think I can mostly answer your questions.

Well, All-Star Weekend is notoriously bugged as hell in 2K14, even with vanilla files. Macubex rosters from my experience are very stable, so you'd have to explain what editing you personally have done exactly because I would imagine that's the problem. In that case, it could almost be anything. Wrong uniform IDs, wrong team IDs, etc, but even then, you'd generally get a blank texture that would work. Cyberfaces generally don't crash the game from what I've seen, so I'd think you were fine there. It might be something with the Elites/Stars/Rising Stars game in general if it's crashing literally right before the All-Star break.

In terms of players making the All-Star team, it seems to take rating into account more than stats. I.E. players with high ratings will get in regardless of the stats, although stats do seem to have some bearing. Younger players (i.e. Rookies/second years) also seem to have a hard time making it at first even if their stats are good. Though a dude scoring nearly 30ppg and NOT making it in is pretty crazy. The votes do matter in terms of getting in though. It's for sure not predetermined before the season.

I think you're talking about the "Overriding Rotations" tab in RED MC. I think those only matter in terms of the All-Star teams you can play in Exhibition Mode. Just from personal experience, changing the values there has zero effect on All-Star teams in Association/MyCareer mode. The players there will also not change whatsoever no matter how many seasons you do. That tab only seems really useful for changing out players during the Rookie Showcase, but I could be wrong. But yes, the players you see in the Rosters tab for the East/West team will be in the All-Star game. I don't know when exactly the game updates those values, but you can for sure safely edit them either right before the All-Star games after the full roster has been decided on, or you can load up the game and it will save your Association file right before the jersey select. Then, I am 100% those are the final All-Star rosters.

You can edit All-Star team rosters but you can't seem to use RED MC to affect the lineup. So yeah, you can sub players out for others but you cannot seem to use RED MC to decide who starts and who comes off the bench. All-Star voting actually doesn't affect the starters/bench because 2K14's strange rotation system will always value ratings over votes. So what I mean is that if a certain point guard (say Steph Curry) is the top vote getter at PG, if another PG gets in and has a higher rating (rare I know), then that second PG would actually be the starter in the All-Star game even though Curry got more votes. The game in generally also values position over votes, so it will always start the highest Center for instance even if the voting picked two/three SFs/PFs to start. I would presume it's a 'glitch,' but the whole rotation system in 2K14 is hella messed up. Sorry if none of that actually made sense haha, but that's the best way I can explain it. But yeah, if you are just trying to put one guy in over another, you can use RED MC for that.

Association in general seems 'mostly' stable. Most of the issues I've run into comes with either All-Star Weekend or because I've personally screwed something up in RED MC. The only major, organic one is the notorious Finals MVP bug where after the first seasons, the Finals MVP will ALWAYS go to the starting PG of the winning team regardless of their stats (might as well be called the Mario Chalmers bug haha). This, however, you can fix in RED MC thankfully. The only other major one I've had is I've had the All-Star game just...not showing up sometimes. My biggest advice would be to MAKE BACKUPS, especially before the All-Star game and especially before you make any edits. But yeah, I am more than happy to answer any more questions if you've got them. (Y)

In my recent experience making a generated 2k14 roster, I've had multiple issues using Mackubex's roster as a base. Not to say it is because of his roster, but I previously used 2k's default roster as a base, and had no issues crashing around ASW or on to the next season in MC. Using MX's as a base, I ran into issue after issue, so I decided to go back to using 2K's default roster, and then adding over the 2024 team/art files. Then ran an association for about 40 years, and copied over the players from said association

It is extremely finicky work.
