For our 2k13 supporters only, I have a special treat.

I just finished updating the last roster today. It took approximately 60 hours to update every signature skill in every roster. To receive signature skills, players had to meet both a minutes played and rating/tendency threshold. A player had to play at least 20 minutes per game and/or play a total of 1,000 minutes in a season (or get really close. If a player played 972 minutes, I considered it good.) I also applied a hard cap to passing, stealing, blocking, and both rebound ratings for players who didn't meet the threshold. This will help minimize players who played 12 MPG being rated higher than players who played 32 MPG. The ratings/threshold and signature skills used are as follows:

Posterizer - Dunk Rating of 80+ or Standing Dunk Rating of 90+ (This helps guys like Shaq be more dominant in the post).
Finisher - SF, PF, or C with an Inside Rating of 90+ and at least 35 in Inside Shot Tendency. Very few SG received this Sig Skill as well.
Acrobat - PG/SG with an Inside Rating of 90+ and at least 35 in Inside Shot Tendency.
Spot Up Shooter - 80+ Mid Range Rating or 75+ 3pt Rating and at least 35 Mid Range Shot Tendency or 3pt Shot Tendency.
Shot Creator - 80+ Mid Range Rating and 35 Mid Range Shot Tendency for PG-SF
Deadeye - 90+ Shot in Traffic Rating or 80+ Mid Range Rating or 75+ 3pt Rating and at least 35 Mid Range or 3pt Tendency for any position.
Ankle Breaker - At least 90+ Ball Handling Rating (A lot of guys with 90 BH rating didn't make the cut. This was one of the most subjectively used skills).
Dimer - At least 65+ Passing Rating for any position
Brick Wall - At least 80+ Strength Rating (guys like Antonio Davis and Dale Davis still got this because they used to hammer guys).
Charge Card - At least 90+ Defensive Awareness Rating
Interceptor - Between 60 and 70 Steal Rating
Interceptor and Active Hands - Between 71 and 84 Steal Rating
Interceptor and Pick Pocket - At least 85 Steal Rating
Eraser and/or Chasedown Block - At least 70 Block Rating
Scrapper - At least 75 in Off or Def Rebounding or at least 10 Reb per 36 minutes or 9 Reb per 36 when at least one other player on the same team averaged at least 10 Reb per 36
Anti-Freeze - Given to guys like Dirk, Nash, Reggie Miller, etc
Microwave - At least 20 points per 36 minutes or at least 19 points per 36 if another player on the same team averaged at least 20 points per 36

Akeem will be a MONSTER on the inside with these sig skills. Active Hands will lead to a lot of strips in the paint and Eraser will help with blocks.

Ralph Sampson (Old) Finisher, Spot Up Shooter, Post Proficient, Heat Retention
Ralph Sampson (New) Posterizer, Finisher, Post Proficient, Eraser, Microwave

Rookie Ralph (before injuries) was a monster. He offers a boost in dunking on folks, finishing through contact, blocking shots, and scoring in bursts.

Power Forwards

Ralph actually starts here as a member of the Twin Towers although his primary position is Center.

Small Forwards

Rodney McCray (Old) Finisher, Acrobat, Shot Creator
Rodney McCray (New) Finisher, Acrobat, Spot Up Shooter, Shot Creator

McCray provides both an inside and a mid-range scoring threat. Because 1980's basketball was largely about the defense packing the paint, spot-up shooting was largely done inside the 3pt line so a lot of 80's and early 90's players received Spot Up shooter.

Robert Reid (New) Spot Up Shooter

Shooting Guards

Lewis Lloyd (Old) Finisher, Acrobat, Shot Creator

You got a rough idea when it could be ready to download? I'm itching to edit the new base rosters with my personal tweaks and get some seasons started :).

Thanks for detailing your Play Type logic. I really like tailoring a players style to his age.
I wondered about Cutter because the Cutter plays you selected for your playbooks mostly have the recipient catch the ball in the mid-range area outside the paint (exceptions as always). When running the plays myself Cutter functions very similar to Mid-Range, only going toward the basket instead of away. I tend to give it to guys who also have Mid-Range so they can catch&shoot/drive. Think Bird, Amare, younger Dirk, Wade etc.
I have a tough time imagining those no ball skills having Chandler-esque bigs in those situations but I haven't really tested how the CPU deals with it.

I have a tough time imagining those no ball skills having Chandler-esque bigs in those situations but I haven't really tested how the CPU deals with it.

As far as I know, Sko just needs to paste the skills, sig skills, and tendencies into each of his roster files since the files I was working on didn't have the shoe updates. It takes about a minute or less to paste each roster. I think he said something to me about wanting to release it this week.

Analysis: Bird's injury problems (he only played 6 games) opened the door for Reggie Lewis to make the leap. Joining an extremely solid veteran core, the Celtics made the playoffs but got swept by the eventual champion Pistons. They are a tad weak on rebounding and interior defense (only one Scrapper and no Erasers on the roster), but they can manhandle you in the offensive low post, they have shooters for days, they have 4 players who can get hot at any given time (Bird, McHale, Ainge, and Lewis), and they have 4 players with the Dimer sig skill so they are both an efficient and unselfish team. They have one of the highest sig skills totals in all rosters with 34 total sig skills. YIKES.

If Bird wouldn't have gotten hurt, maybe Lewis wouldn't have made the leap. But, if Bird would have stayed healthy and Lewis would have made the leap, this team could have beaten anybody in a best-of-7 series. 4 Hall of Famers, Danny Ainge, and a budding Reggie Lewis is SOLID.

Ideally I'd like to see sometning steal related for Bird, maybe Active Hands for Microwave but probably more relevant to his younger self back before his back died on him and those 5 fit him very well anyway. Tough choices with players who really should get more than 5 sig skills.

What do you think of giving Scrapper to bigs who don't get rebounds themselves but help the team secure the board due to their really effective boxing out? Thinking of Marc Gasol & Brook Lopez here. Probably impossible to do on a fair and objective basis as I don't know of any stats which would reflect that (team def reb% maybe?).

Bird has Active Hands in 1985-1988 rosters. From 89-91, his steal rating dropped off and he didn't qualify for it.

You can add the scrapper sig skill to players like that if you want. Like you said, I don't know of an objective way to do that. Also, it will necessarily lead to those guys getting more rebounds in-game. Brook can box out well (he's a very big body), but I vividly remember seasons where he'd average 5 or 6 boards per game. The Scrapper sig skill would probably have him getting 8-10 boards per game in game play.

Bird has Active Hands in 1985-1988 rosters. From 89-91, his steal rating dropped off and he didn't qualify for it.

You can add the scrapper sig skill to players like that if you want. Like you said, I don't know of an objective way to do that. Also, it will necessarily lead to those guys getting more rebounds in-game. Brook can box out well (he's a very big body), but I vividly remember seasons where he'd average 5 or 6 boards per game. The Scrapper sig skill would probably have him getting 8-10 boards per game in game play.

The goal is to prevent their direct opponent from snatching the board and if it takes them getting the board themselves then it's a case of lesser evil for me. I care a lot about gameplay and not at all about stats so my whole outlook is different anyway.

Btw, is there a way to create my own or modify existing playbooks from within the game (and save it to the roster file)? I want to create specific 4-out & 5-out playbooks and it's a pain to do it over everytime I start a new season with a team that needs those.

You should be able to create your own playbooks, although I don't have my plays spreadsheet anymore. I used to have one that broke down plays by formation. I think one of the playbooks in the roster files is a 3-2/4-1 hybrid but it's been a few years since I've done anything with playbooks.

- Accurately updated Coaching profiles and playbooks

- Draft classes that have realistic player information for every player

I'm still having alot of issues with the sig skills im seeing. Guys with Deadeye and Spot Up skill and super high mid range shot who were just big guys who had high field goal percentages from only shooting close to basket and doing putbacks is the most prevelant issue I've seen.

In the 1986 roster, theres issues with names in the roster, records, awards sections. Alfredick Havilcheck. Elvin Bird. Willis Carter. Etc. I was able to fix it by copy and pasting over from a Default roster.

In the records and awards history section of the roster, there are issues with the players names mentioned. Go to the tabs in RedMC and search.

Unfortunately when I modify playbooks from within the game, they are not saved. Just tried it again.
I went to Manage Roster -> Playbooks -> Edit Offense
When finished, I saved the Roster file. When I reloaded that roster file, the edits were gone.
