Why do you prefer NBA 2K13?

Postby Culture Games on Wed Jun 17, 2020 12:01 am

Its always a big debate about which is better, nba 2k13 or 2k14. Most people on this forum play 2k13 over 2k14, if not nba 2k13 exclusively. So i thought it would be interesting if a few people shared why they prefer NBA 2K13 over 2k14?

After really enjoying NBA 2K13 when it was new, NBA 2K14 left me cold. There are some bothersome AI quirks in 2K14 when it comes to help defense and CPU teammate defense in general, it seems like everyone is looking to drive even when that isn't their game (and the problematic AI defense makes it difficult to stop without frantic switching), and something about the gameplay has always just felt a bit off to me. With that being said, I've been revisiting 2K14 a bit recently to see if my impressions have changed, and I think it is better than I remembered. I still have more affection for 2K13, though.

I think Slimm44 would be best qualified to speak here on 2k13. And NEW YORK KID can speak on why NBA 2k14 is best. The great debate. I'll be the host.

Possibly 2K17, for its enhanced shooting mechanics and the new modes. They're two of my favourites from the past ten years or so.

playing 2k13 lately more than 2k14, i noticed one downside of 2k13 - almost all dunks are one handed, while in 2k14 one handed/two handed dunks are more balanced.

Hard to say exactly why some titles stand out, but for me 2k13 hits all the marks. 2k11 and 2k8 and CH2k8 were my go favs prior to 2k13. I'm an association player so the mods and draft classes really make 2k13 special as I can play year over year and watch the league change etc. I bought 2k19 on Steam and returned it within a week.

I think I'm content with 2k13 for the foreseeable future.
Hoops gaming favorites: Lakers vs Celtics (SEGA), NBA Live 95 (SNES), NBA Live 97 (PSOne) College Hoops 2K8 (XBOX 360), NBA 2K11 (PC), NBA 2K13 Vintage Mod (PC)

Over the years, they said 2k13 had cheese galore and too many exploits. (a 3 point eurostep glitch and unblockable dunks?) I guess I never utilizing cheating or exploits if I saw something , I played the game how it was meant to be played. I felt when you play how it should, I felt it was simply the most fun. The presentation was amazing at the time, and I don't even like that kind of music. I was also a fan of watching the Miami Heat and they were just absolutely sick on that game with the dunking. (oh, it had the dream too right correct?"

Is it true the dunks are UNBLOCKABLE on 2k13?

Dunks are basically unblockable. It may happen very, very rarely, but the only dunks I've ever missed in NBA 2K13 were all rim stuffs. In the preview season for NBA 2K14, the developers went out of their way to mention that dunks could be blocked, acknowledging the issue in NBA 2K13.

I've warmed up immensely to NBA 2K14 on PlayStation 4 since this topic was originally started, and I'd probably feel more positive about the PC/360/PS3 version as well if I dusted it off today. However, NBA 2K13 was definitely special, and remains a personal favourite.

How many dunks actually get blocked in an NBA game anyway? I'd say zero, more often than not. Play some 2K13 everyone.
