Franchise Legends 2K12 (PS3) - Experimenting with hex editing rosters

Postby RayRay_953 on Thu Apr 18, 2024 11:45 am

While the OBL team continues to create the art files for our alternative rosters, I wanted to venture towards an old classic and share my own custom roster for PS3 users.

I present: Franchise Legends 2K12

Franchise Legends will feature a combination of minimalist modding and CAP creation to experiment with PS3 roster capabilities. This is built from a 2K Share roster which included all Legends Showcase players in Free Agency. In addition to the aforementioned players, I've also swapped in some of the exclusive uniforms for some new threads. As of now, the 76ers and Bucks have a complete starting five, and I plan on including more players over time.

I can't recall anyone mentioning a specific tool for externally editing the PS3 files. I could be wrong, but my guess is that someone opened up the roster file with a hex editor and worked out some flags they could easily change that made those players accessible. That's definitely an interesting prospect, though!

I played around with one of my PS3 roster files for a bit, and unfortunately, Reditor won't recognize the file no matter what I did. The good news is that you can at least hex edit the USERDATA file once you decrypt it with Bruteforce:https://digiex.net/threads/ps3-bruteforce-save-data-v4-4-2-download.13290/

I was successfully able to replace the Suns retro 1 jersey sets with the '90s fireball jerseys used in Legends Showcase, so it's possible to a degree to create modded rosters on PS3. Hopefully, this inspires some PlayStation users to make some modded rosters of their own :D

JaoSming's old tutorial for hex editing rosters works perfectly for the PS3 files. The only difference is that you don't need to delete any hex values, but you need to decrypt the roster for editing, and then encrypt it again once you're done so the PS3 can load it. You're limited to replacing files that have the same number of characters in their name unlike Reditor, so you'll need to be mindful of what files you want to replace. You won't be able to assign cyberfaces, but you can still change stadiums, floors, logos, and jerseys (if they have the same number of characters as the one you want to replace them with). I believe it might be possible to change team colors and jersey collars, but I don't know where those values are located. This is certainly something I want to experiment with; you don't have the benefit of Reditor with PS3 files, but there's some potential with what you can work with.

I've swapped a few more jerseys as proof of concept - some collars are currently incorrect:

'92-'00 Blazers uniforms (these go unused since the 1992 team was scrapped after 2k11)

'75-'81 Jazz uniforms

Five teams are currently done with fifteen players on each franchise:
-76ers
-Bucks
-Bulls
-Celtics
-Lakers

I've swapped the following uniforms for the aforementioned teams (collars not currently updated):
-76ers '66 home to '67 home jersey (DLC)
-76ers '67 away to '67 away jersey (DLC version; more accurate colors and no Rev 30 mesh holes)
-Bucks primary home and away jerseys to '85 jerseys (versions used by the '85 Bucks)
-Bucks '72 home to '69 home jersey
-Bucks '85 home and away (retro jerseys used by the current Bucks) jerseys to '01 jerseys (DLC)
-Bucks '69 home to '74 away jersey (DLC)
-Celtics Christmas to '50s away jersey (hidden on disc)
-Bulls Christmas to rookie Jordan home jersey (DLC)

I'll post some more screenshots once I complete a few more teams, but this roster is coming along well so far.

Knicks and Pacers are completed. I've got some screenshots of what's coming along with the roster. I also found some old CAPs from other rosters I had, so I'm transferring their formulas.

Some uniforms for the Pacers have been swapped to the DLC jerseys:
- '70 home to '86 home jersey (DLC)
- '99 alternate to '91 away jersey (DLC)
