Can I have more than 30 'regular' teams in exhibition?

The early mods before the Bobcats/Grizzlies/Raptors/etc have those teams just deleted or invisible or something.. I was wondering if there was a way to add teams to use in exhibition? Like 36 team rosters of 12 players or more that I could trade/release/sign with just for play now mode? I'm NOT wanting it for association or anything... Anyone know?

How would I go about adding teams to the '88 mod? Or any mod. Or not even a mod. Like I could create the Seattle Sonics and Charlotte Hornets and New Orleans Pelicans as new teams to the existing 30? No idea how to do it.
