Big Men Rebounding?

Postby fjccommish on Mon Oct 03, 2011 6:59 am

In the hands of the CPU a 7'6", 320LB center, with 99 in rebounding (both sides), as well as O and D awareness and leaping, pulls down 7-10 rebounds per game in CPU vs CPU play, or in quick sim (can't remember what that's called right now, the mode where the gamer can watch the game progress.) In simulated games he grabs 15-20 RPG.

This is a test of extremes I make every year.

I'm trying to figure out what makes a player, in the game, a monster rebounder.

dont know, but kevin love only got about 5 a game for me in 10 minute quarters in 2k11. traded his ass after about 5 games. this year seems better though in terms of realistic rebounding

try strength, that might matter with boxing out.
Opinions are my own.

Strength is already 99.

Not surprised. Some things to consider...

What was the FG% in the CPU vs CPU compared to the simulated games.

How many shot attempts were in the CPU vs CPU compared to the simulated games.

If I had to guess, I'd assume that the flawed stats aren't because of the players ratings, but because of the sliders.

It's not ratings or sliders. It's the game itself. For some reason 2k decided that it was important for the guards to rebound almost as well as the big men when watching CPU vs. CPU games. i have tried fooling with ratings and sliders with no luck. It seems like that while the big men are blocking out the guards are swooping into to grab the rebounds. I have a CPU vs CPU league and some of the top rebounders have a hard time grabbing 10+ rebounds a game.

I hope they fix this in 2k12.

In-game rebounding hasn't always been good compared to simulation rebounding, or in some occasions vice-versa (Bosh in 2K10 lol). For in-game, try increasing the Hustle slider or Crash Boards in team/coach profile.

I tried bumping him up to 99 on everything, but his in game rebounding is still not great. Even when I lock on him and play as him, I can't get rebounds. As someone else mentioned, the guards swoop in to grab the rebounds. It looks like I should get it, but the ball kind of morphs into the guard's hands.

Sorry if I think that you suck at rebounding.
As for CPU AI (opponent and teammate), yeah the bigs don't go after the ball as much as you want them too. Though I'm still not convinced with what Fifedawg posted that what's wrong is actually 'in the game' unless I know more about his methods that lead him to that conclusion. As airberlin said...

I play 12 minute quarters and teams are getting up almost 90+ shots per game. What happens is that your best rebounders will get 12-13 rebounds in one game, but in the next game they will get 5-6 and the point or off guard will get 10+. This cause the averages of the best rebounders to be at about 9+ but below the double digit averages that they should be getting.

I have my Offensive Rebounding Slider set at 99 but still can get the league average of 11 per and that is using 2K default rosters. Again this is playing CPU vs. CPU games, but playing games over the last several months have brought me to the conclusion that the system is flawed.

True that Fifedawg, I'm currently experiencing the same problem as well. Unless you have Dwight Howard on your team, your big guys will be inconsistent with double-digit rebounds. My current franchise has Chris Paul averaging 10.2 rebounds a game.

Haven't tried the 2k12 demo but some of the posted videos has the big guys being more aggressive with rebounds. Then again, that's at default difficulty with casual sliders.

It's probably just your timing. I haven't been able to get consistent double digit rebounds with anyone since 2k8. I do remember that lowering help defense and fast break helps a lot, but the trade off of that defense for getting a big man 10 boards wasn't worth it.

It's also possible that there is a balancing problem with the athleticism and quickness of smaller players versus the strength if big men.
