Coolest and Dumbest Moment so Far?

Postby JaoSming on Mon Nov 07, 2011 2:05 pm

Just wondering what everyone's coolest and dumbest moment in 2K12 has been so far.

Coolest - It's still that speed dribble I did with Magic Johnson around McHale when I was playing through the Greatest mode Day 1. Insanity.

Dumbest - Just barely, I had 3 of my AI teammates run the wrong way as I was setting up for a possible game winning possession. Just dribbling the ball up the court with like 10 seconds left, and Pierce, Ellis and Lee decided that they didn't care and sprinted away from the play and past the half court line.....random.
Opinions are my own.

Dumbest would be watching the AI pass up a semi-open three-pointer to take a fully contested last second 18-footer.

With Stephen Curry.

While we were down three.

Even worse was that he made it and we lost by one.

Coolest - Fast breaks. This year is the first year I can run the break like I want. I just dished off to my PF trailing the play for a great dunk.

Dumbest - Random bad passes.
2013 is the year?

Coolest - Fastbreak 360 one hand clutch dunk with a guy in front of me trying to take a charge but gets posterized instead in My Player.

Dumbest - Perkins blocked by Boykins under the basket

(Y) - Hit game winners in three straight games with Stephen Curry. That guy is so boss.
(N) - With the game on the line, I have the chance to run a fast break and get a wide-open dunk. But out of nowhere, Udoh goes into a contested-dunk-animation and misses. I lose. Seriously, wtf?

I'm not usually a glitz over substance type gamer, but one of the coolest moments so far would probably be getting my first magazine cover in My Player. That stuff does spice up the mode somewhat, I've got to give it that.

The dumbest moment would probably be some of the defensive switches by the CPU, as pointed out in Chris Smoove's video. I've encountered that a few times lately, every time costing me a big part of my grade. Frustrating in a player locked mode to say the least.

Coolest: Playing Game 7 of the NBA Finals between the Magic (me, though in the Association mode I'm the Rockets) and Thunder. Double overtime, tied game. Trying to inbound the ball, I just barely get it to Gilbert Arenas, nearly a backcourt violation. Quick screen by Howard, I have to immediately pull up for a three. Swish.

Dumbest: The game crashed immediately after that moment.

 Is it bad I was ROTFL after that?

I aactually had a similar moment...

Coolest: A nasty jam, starting the animation on one side of the rim, finishing on the other.

Dumbest: Your AI running into the other team's player and getting a foul, making the dunk not count.

Coolest: Haven't had any "Wow" moments yet. But getting the commercials in MyPlayer is pretty damn cool! And they finally talked about my MyPlayers performance during the Sprite Spark instead of it being "The stretch by the Hawks". And it's pretty neat to hear them talk about your progressing .

Dumbest: In the dying seconds of game 5 of the Conference Finals (I was up 3-1) Rondo gets the ball, rushes it up the court, Joe Johnson decides to go for the steal, giving him the reach-in foul sending Rondo to the free throw line. (I was up by two so it wouldn't have been that bad, but it was just dumb. Thankfully Rondo went on to only make one shot so I won the game anyways)

Oh, no way...What are the odds?

Coolest: Behind-the-back-lookaway-bounce pass from my MP to trailing Melo for a wide open layup when 2 defender's attention is focused on me. :headbang:

Coolest:
In MP mode Steph Curry, Monta Ellis and me (SF) ran on a fastbreak. Curry was slightly in front of me, when he threw (an automatic) of the glass alley oop pass to me. Awesome replay to watch in director's cut.

Baddest:

You know, PGs can block bigger players, it just boils down to timing and position. If it happens more than once a game, something is wrong, but if you guys have seen it only once (and I havent) then it should be considered rare and IMO "cool". PGs blocking Cs was something I always liked about 2K more than Live, since 2K's blocks are (usually) organic and not Canimation like what Live used to do.

I've seen it four or five times in about 50 games so far, so you might be right. That's something you can live with.
More anoying to me was the fact that Andrew Bynum took 2 threes in my last game against the Lakers...

Coolest-Between two. Either MP, as an SF in Golden State. Or a alley-oop facial on Kobe with Dwight. Both are awesome.

Dumbest-Bigs kill me with threes..

similar to the issue with bigs and 3s last year, I am again exempt, I havent had issues with it. I have had them dribble and hold the ball at the 3 pt line, but they will pass it to a shooter before time expires on the shot clock.

Yeah, but I luckily have that on MP. Try to destroy my SF(99 3 Point Ovr), Curry and Ellis  Really happy with Golden State.

As for the Magic and Dwight, its just fun dominating with him. No C can control him.

Coolest - the gameplay in 5 vs 5. It is more exciting, or something, maybe because it is tougher, and i like a challenge.
runner-up - that almost-come-back i had in NBA greatest Mode in Zeke's game. Down by 10 with 40 secs to go, commentators call it quits. then Dumars hits a 3, then Lambier hits a 3, i finally am able to get the stops i need... and then, of course, a glitch, where MJ was standing 10 feet away from Dumars yet somehow tipped the ball on the last possession. UGH :facepalm2: Could have been EPIC.

Dumbest - I guess i already stated it - ridiculous turnovers and steals. Whole MyPlayer mode gameplay = FAIL

I agree, they can, and if the blocks are more of the Nate-Robinson-blocking-Yao-in-real-life variety (i.e: accomplished by a great vertical, strength, positioning, and a bit of luck), and with similar rarer frequency, that won't be a problem, but in my game most everyone I control, even centers, often gets blocked (/hacked which are counted as blocks because it's not called by the refs) when going to the basket, a lot of times with unrealistic, grazing touches sometimes with weird body parts like the elbow or the trunk of the defender's body.
It's like the defender, even a small PG like Boykins, doesn't 'stagger' at all sometimes when bumped with your player in the air.

The AI seems to have unrealistic blocking awareness, they get up the instant you get up, with great timing, no matter the situation. This, coupled with the mid-air contact situation which IMO aren't treated the same way between your player and the AI (just like the on-ball defense bumping) causes the dumbness. My games almost always have a +5 to +7 blocking stat in favor of the AI's team in the final stat screen.

The Ai's blocking in this game is like a magnet. They can block the ball even when they have their backs turn to you and some of the blocks happen w/o the ball hitting the blockers hands (most of the time the ball just hits the blockers body just like gogadantes said). It's like the ball just slips through your hands.
Plus when Boykins blocked Perkins, it was from an offensive rebound, under the basket Perkins grabbed the ball with Boykins in front of him. Perkins quickly jump to shoot the ball then Boykins with atleast a foot shorter than Perkins jumps with one hand raised not even an aggessive block, blocks the ball out of Perkins hand. The Ai's blocking is just full of cheese.

Another dumb moment that just happened to me. Ben Gordon got the ball from under the basket with an offensive rebound, then went straight up to shoot the ball with an off the back board shot and then for no reason the ref called it an offensive interference :?:

I finally get a chance to throw an alley-oop, and it was a beauty to Al Horford. Right over two defenders and Horford finishes it with the jam. To my surprise I'm being graded for a bad pass and I don't even get credited with the assist. The ball didn't get touched in mid-air or anything.

That does happen a lot esp. if the opponent touches the ball. You will also get bad call for past most of the time you ask for an alley oop pass even if it is successful and the opponent doesn't even touch the ball. Getting an "Allow man to score" even when it isn't your man to guard because of the stupid defensive rotation logic is also a big joke.

Agreed. Same goes for the "left assignment" deduction. On the whole, the grading is a lot better than it was in 2K11 but there are still a few annoyances like that, with a single mistake being very costly to your grade. On the other hand, it is easier to make it up again this year. Better on the whole, but still room for improvement.
