No Billups, no problem. Nets blow past Raptors behind Ariza, Brown's career nights
Image

Toronto, ON - Tonight, not even multiple injuries can stop the New Jersey Nets.

Despite Chauncey Billups going down with a severe ankle sprain in the 3rd quarter, Sean Williams playing through plantar fasciitis, and Trevor Ariza tweaking his ankle early in the game, the Nets dominated Toronto in the Air Canada Center for a massive 144-103 victory.

Trevor Ariza returned just 5 minutes after leaving the floor with a twisted ankle and dropped a career high 39 points alongside 4 steals, Shannon Brown gave him plenty of help as he dropped his own career high of 24 points and had 6 dishes from off the bench; and with Yao getting a near 20-20 with 19 points and 18 rebounds, there was no way the Nets could've lost, even without their floor general.

Billups had 19 points and 4 assists in the first half before a collusion with Raptors forward Earl Clark sent him down onto the floor hard, he was helped up by teammates and did not return. The veteran guard was diagnosed with a severe ankle sprain and will miss the next 2-4 weeks. This is already the 3rd injury to Billups this season.

"It's unfortunate that this has happened (injury) again" said Billups "It isn't a good time for me to go down with the team being shorthanded already, but that's how it is so i'm just going to do my best and get healthy asap"

The Raptors were led by Chris Bosh, who dropped in 25 points and had 5 boards in the defeat. Recently acquired rookie guard Carl Cruz had a double double of 13 points and 11 assists, while Jason Kapono added in 17 points and 6 assists of his own. Sophomore forward Earl Clark had 15 and 7.

The Raptors played terrible defensively and it showed, as Ariza, Brown, Lai and Yao were scoring at will in the paint. In particular, Trevor Ariza and Shannon Brown looked like they were in the Dunk Contest instead of a game, throwing down 360s and reverse windmills at will.

"Just terrible defensively" said Raptors coach Sam Mitchell "We can't hope to play like this and get the win"

Toronto did have their own problems with injuries, with Kevin Love playing through Back Spasms and Chris Bosh suffering from Knee Tendinitis, their post presence was affected.

Wow, Ariza and Brown were beasts. Getting to the line so much is odd. I get like 4 free throws per game with 2K10.

Well, with the default foul settings, there wouldn't be more then 10 fouls called all game. You gotta adjust those sliders and settings to get more realistic results

Struggling Bucks fire Carlisle, Hires Henry Sloan
March 5th 2011

Image
The Milwaukee Bucks have relieved Head Coach Cecil Carlisle of his coaching duties,
effective immediately.

Henry Sloan, who is the brother of the retired Hall of Fame coach Jerry Sloan, has
been named as the new Head Coach.

Cecil Carlisle, cousin of Maverticks head coach Rick Carlisle, was hired to replace former
Bucks Head Coach Eddie Jordan on March 19th 2010, this would be the 3rd Head Coach
change in 3 seasons for the Bucks, who despite winning the lottery and drafting Patrick
Lynch this season, and promising Spanish point guard Ricky Rubio last season, is still dead
last in the Eastern Conference.

On the other hand, Henry Sloan is yet another Head Coach with no previous experience
in the NBA, however, his brother vouched for him and has nothing but praises. We can
assume the Hall of Famer has been giving lessons to his brother.

Theus out, Jordan in for the Kings
March 20th 2011

Image
For the second time this month, a coaching change has been made.

The Sacramento Kings have announced the firing of Head Coach Reggie Theus this morning.

Theus, hired back in 2007, has been all but decent for the terrible Kings, his poor coaching
in addition with a terrible General Manager has allowed the Kings to sink into the depths of
mediocrity in the NBA.

His replacement would be Eddie Jordan, former Wizards, and more recently Bucks head coach.

Bryant, Lakers roll to easy win against visiting Nets
Image

Los Angeles, CA - Even with Chauncey Billups finally back healthy, there was nothing the Nets could do to stop Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers.

Bryant had 28 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists in just 25 minutes played throughout the first 3 quarters, then sat on the bench and rested in the 4th, watching his Lakers cruise to the finish line as they defeat the Nets, 111-90.

Steve Blake had 7 points and 15 assists for the Lakers, while Sasha Vujacic dropped in 17 from off the bench. Lamar Odom was 1 rebound shy of a double double with 12 points and 9 rebounds and seldom used reserves Bobby Brown and DJ White had 11 and 10 respectively, White also grabbed 6 boards in his 17 minutes of action.

The Lakers bigs managed to shut down Nets' All Star Center Yao Ming, and held him to just 9 points and 8 rebounds in 29 minutes. Yao failed to register one single board at the end of the first half, thanks to the efforts from Gasol, Odom, and Bynum. Who took turns in single covering the 7'6" All-Star, and rendered him useless. Yao shot an atrocious 4 for 17 from the field.

"They did a real good job on Yao" said Lakers head coach Lawrence Frank "Especially Pau, he put all his energies into defending Yao and did a fantastic job of preventing him from getting the rebounds, at the expense of his own stats" Gasol had just 6 points and 9 rebounds in the contest and shot the ball only 7 times.

For the Nets, they were led by sophomore Leo Lai's 24 points and 6 rebound effort, Lai shot 9 for 15 from the field, including 4 for 7 from beyond the arc, and played (for the most part) some good defense on the league's leading scorer Kobe Bryant, even blocking one of Bryant's dunk attempts.

"He was a tough cover, a very tough cover" Lai said after the game "I'll say that he's still the best player in basketball, just an amazing player"

Lai was helped by Chauncey Billups, who had 21 points and 6 assists in his first game back from injury. Billups suffered the injury on February 23rd when the Nets were in Toronto playing against the Raptors and had been out for 1 month before being cleared by the doctors to play just 3 hours prior to tip off.

The Nets are now 0-2 in their 3 game road trip and will look to return home with a win against the Jazz tomorrow night.

Notes: Former Lakers Derek Fisher and Shannon Brown got a standing ovation as they checked in at the beginning of the second quarter, Fisher had 11 points on 3 for 5 shooting.....The Lakers had 74 points in the paint as opposed to the Nets' 22......The Nets were out-rebounded 33 to 47.....LA shot a blazing 70% in the first half, they ended the game with 55%...

Tough loss. You're really blowing through the season! Do you only play one a month? Nonetheless, presentation is still nice. I also love Steve Blake on the Lakers. Congrats on the demonic # of replies as well. :)

Phil is retired, their coach is our former coach Lawrence Frank

and not exactly just the 4th...he sat down with about 3 minutes to go in the third, shows you how much they were kicking our ass at that point.....

not likely with John Wall and Hakeem Bol in your draft class, Patrick Lynch's overall stats is better then yours too; and you might lose the rookie of the month in march too due to the 8 game losing streak your Wolves had earlier in the month......

Boston's John Wall posts second career triple double in loss
March 29th 2011

Image
In what was a highly anticipated match-up between the two top rookie point guards, John Wall of
the Boston Celtics certainly did not disappoint, posting his second career triple double of 19 points,
15 assists and 10 rebounds, alongside 3 blocks and a steal in 39 minutes of play in a losing effort to
fellow rookie Will Sit and the Minnesota Timberwolves, who have now won 3 in a row in their playoff
push following an 8 game losing streak.

The final score was 100-95, and it was a close and competitive match all game long. It was only with
the combined efforts of Sit and Stephen Jackson did the Wolves managed to take hold of the lead
and sustained it for the victory. Sit finished with 23 points and 4 assists while Jackson had 16 and 5.

Wall recorded his first triple double back in December against the Philadelphia 76ers.
