The edited prospects in 2K9 are given pre-made unchangeable portraits which are composites of one or more players' faces. ;) My favorite is the Maciej Lampe one. :P

Arenas, Wizards even series at 2 games apiece with 122-110 win
Image

Washington, DC - Gilbert Arenas wasn't about to let a pair of ancient veterans outplay him.

Despite a combined 38 points, 12 assists performance from Derek Fisher (37) and Eric Snow (38), the New Jersey Nets failed to capture a single game on their trip to the nations capital and heads back to New Jersey with the series tied 2-2.

Derek Fisher had 27 points and 2 assists on 11 for 18 shooting, including 5-6 from trey, while Eric Snow turned in a 11 point, 10 assist double double in his 19 minutes off the bench, even making a 3 pointer, something he's not known to do.

But it still wasn't enough, as the Nets starters all struggled to find a rhythm on offense, and failed miserably at stopping Gilbert Arenas and the rest of the Washington Wizards on the defensive end of the floor.

"Our guys just wasn't in it tonight" said Scott Skiles, coach of the Nets "Derek and Eric had a heck of a game but the starters need to play efficient basketball for us to win"

Arenas dropped in a 27 point, 11 assist night while shooting a very effective 12 for 17, including 2 for 3 from beyond the arc, while James Harden, who had a 33 point performance back in game 3, had 21 points on 9 for 14.

6 players from Washington were in double digits scoring, and Rafer Alston turned in an additional 12 dimes off the bench alongside his 13 points.

Washington shot over 60 percent from the field (51-82) and it's largely due to their excellent inside scoring, led by Arenas and Harden, the Wizards drove inside and got easy buckets; This was evident in their overwhelming points in the paint advantage (78-36).

"They did that good again tonight, obviously" said Wizards coach Jackson Farley "But i think it's also due to the ball movement, guys are being unselfish and getting great looks" For the record, Washington turned in 42 assists.

The series will now shift back to New Jersey for the 5th game.

Can't help it, I was getting killed by Arenas and Harden. The defense that our team has been so proud of hasn't been appearing in the last 2 games

Wizards Big Three make it 3 straight, takes game 5 in rout of Nets
Image

East Rutherford, NJ - The Nets thought they'd get some comfort back home after 2 rough losses in Washington, D.C.

They were terribly mistaken.

The Wizards, led by their 3 stars Gilbert Arenas, Caron Butler and James Harden, smashed the Nets plans for a relaxing victory as they combined for a total of 66 points in the 111-93 blowout victory in the Izod Center, New Jersey.

Caron Butler led the way with 25 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists on 10 for 17 shooting. James Harden trailed not far behind with 21 points and 7 boards of his own, while Agent Zero turned in another 20-10 performance with 20 points and 12 assists.

Javale McGee got 16 points and 7 rebounds, while Antawn Jamison finished with 8 and 10.

Washington was in control from start to finish, never letting the Nets have a chance for a comeback and held them to just 38% from the field. They dominated the boards and again, pounded the ball inside for 58 easy points in the paint. The Wizards shot a fantastic 54% from the field and had excellent ball movement, as suggested by their 31 assists.

"We knew coming in here we had to take the initiative and be aggressive to get the win" said Arenas "We did that perfectly tonight, now we can finish kicking their ass and closing out on the series back home"

The Nets were led by Leo Lai, who had another high-scoring game, finishing with a game-high 31 points alongside 5 assists and 4 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocks while All-Star MVP Yao Ming got 18 points and 14 boards of his own, also recording 2 steals and blocks in the process.

Ariza added 14 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds and a game high 6 steals, but was just 5 for 17 from the field. He was ice cold in the second half after a terrific first half.

Speaking of Ice Cold, no one was more so then Nets Point Guard Chauncey Billups tonight. He was just 5 for 23 from the field, 2 for 10 from three, and finished with 12 points and 7 assists.

"It was just a bad night" said Billups "I take full responsibility for the loss"

The Nets bench, after showing signs of life in game 4, fell dead again as they had a combined total of just 6 points while the Wizards backups combined for 31.

"Our backs are against the wall now, we need to go to Washington focused and ready to play hard" Scott Skiles said after the game with a look of disgust on his face "Our guys need to take a deep look at a mirror and ask if they've given their all, because this level of effort isn't going to get it done"

Yikes. Despite having the top seed (granted, in perhaps the weakest conference ever, in which none of the teams would have made the 2008 Western Playoffs), the Nets may be doomed to back-to-back first round exits.

Damn, climbing out of a 2-3 deficit will be tough. Lai should shoot like he did in game #5 and Billups should shoot way less.

Yeah, my team just couldn't do a thing against Washington in the last 3 games :? Also, the top 3 seeds could have gone either way due to having the same record :x

No love for a possible comeback huh....Thats ok though, i've lost the trust in the team myself

Funny thing is Lai shot contested jumpers while Billups had wide open shots

Butler, Wizards Complete Upset, Eliminates Top Seeded Nets
Image

Washington, DC - Put this one in the history books.

The Washington Wizards becomes just the fourth eighth-seeded team in NBA History to defeat the top-seeded team - the New Jersey Nets in a playoff series.

Behind Caron Butler's 31 point, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists performance, Washington blew the game open in the fourth and outscored the Nets 40 to 19 in the final period to take the 116-96 blowout game 6 victory.

Gilbert Arenas finished with another double double with 18 points and 12 assists. James Harden had 12 points, 6 rebounds and 4 dimes while former Net Anthony Parker helped dispatch his old team with 17 points in 13 minutes of the bench.

"We've never had any doubt that this was going to happen" said Butler "They had the better record but we have the better team, this should have been obvious"

The Wizards played like they did in the previous three games, and pounded inside for 60 points in the paint, shooting at just over 50% from the field (46/89) while holding the Nets to a mere 40% (42/104). Their bench once again outplayed New Jersey's subs (42-13) and most of all, they converted at the Free Throw line, making 14 for 20 from the charity stripe.

In Contrast, that's what killed the Nets. They shot a miserable 7 for 19 from the Free Throw line and had just 30 points in the paint.

Chauncey Billups bounced back from his struggles in game 5 with 23 points and 12 assists, and Yao Ming added in his usual dominating presence with 20 points and 18 boards, but it wasn't enough as the Wizards took command in the fourth.

Leo Lai had 18 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists while Trevor Ariza chipped in with 18 points. Sean Williams grabbed 12 boards for the Nets.

"It was a close game" said Billups "until the fourth quarter, where they just turned it on and killed us out there" New Jersey actually had the lead going into the fourth.

This marks the second straight first round exit for the Nets, and a disappointing one, considering their offseason acquisitions of the former finals MVP Chauncey Billups and former member of the Celtics Big Three Ray Allen amongst other veteran players. Granted, Allen went down with a season ending injury after about 30 games and they've had multiple injuries on the team throughout, but nonetheless, losing to an eighth-seeded Wizards team that squeaked into the playoffs, blowing a 2-0 lead and losing the next four, is both unbelievable and unacceptable.
