I'd understand why Martti would have a feud with someone who desperately needs to get a decent haircut.

Huge game by Ariza though, he didn't live up to his brick-shooting reputation. (Y)

Monthly Recaps: November 2011
Part Four: Race to the MVP
Image
Image

1. Chris Paul, New Orleans Hornets (18-0)

Stats: PPG -- 24.3; RPG -- 5.2; APG -- 11.6; SPG -- 2.4; BPG -- 0.3; FG% -- .585; 3P% -- .574; FT% -- .888
Comment: Given his team's still-perfect and historic record, his league leading assist average of 11.6, over 24 ppg, league 4th best spg at 2.4, a field goal percentage of over 58% and a three point perecentage at a staggering 57%, it's hard not to put CP3 right at the top of this edition's Race to the MVP.

2. Kobe Bryant, Los Angeles Lakers (16-2)

Stats: PPG -- 31.1; RPG -- 4.4; APG -- 5.2; SPG -- 1.9; BPG -- 0.6; FG% -- .563; 3P% -- .488; FT% -- .896
Comment: Kobe's putting up staggering numbers, including a league-leading 31 ppg; and his three-time defending world champ Lakers are in cruise control. Putting the Black Mamba any lower would be out of the question.

3. Dwight Howard, Orlando Magic (11-4)

Stats: PPG -- 21.1; RPG -- 13.5; APG -- 1.2; SPG -- 0.7; BPG -- 3.5; FG% -- .547; 3P% -- .000; FT% -- .550
Comment: All the three time defending rebounding and blocks champion, and the two time defensive player of the year doing is averaging a league best 13.5 rebounds and 3.5 blocks a game to keep his squad at the top of the much improved Eastern conference, thats all. Wait, did I mention he's also averaging over 21 points on nearly 55% shooting?

4. Dwyane Wade, Miami Heat (11-5)

Stats: PPG -- 27.5; RPG -- 2.8; APG -- 7.4; SPG -- 2.9; BPG -- 1.9; FG% -- .511; 3P% -- .280; FT% -- .771
Comment: He wanted to be "the man", so he forced his way out of Chicago and was welcomed back to Miami with open arms. I say it was a good move by both Wade and the Heat, as he is putting up huge numbers as "the man" and the Heat are amongst the elites of the league again.

5. Carmelo Anthony, Milwaukee Bucks (10-7)

Stats: PPG -- 28.5; RPG -- 8.0; APG -- 3.8; SPG -- 1.8; BPG -- 0.6; FG% -- .568; 3P% -- .425; FT% -- .768
Comment: I don't know why Melo chose to sign himself to a city like Milwaukee, but basketball-wise it sure seems like the right decision thus far - Melo is averaging over 28 points and 8 rebounds while the Bucks are winning for once.

6. Derrick Rose, Chicago Bulls (9-6)

Stats: PPG -- 26.2; RPG -- 2.9; APG -- 7.6; SPG -- 1.6; BPG -- 0.5; FG% -- .540; 3P% -- .470; FT% -- .803
Comment: Rose has improved dramatically every year he's been in the NBA, and this year is no different. After Wade forced himself off the team, Rose is the undisputed leader of the Bulls, and he has answered the call. His much improved shooting has allowed him to average over 26 points a game on 54% shooting; and his Bulls are hanging in there with a 9-6 record.

7. Amare Stoudemire, Phoenix Suns (7-9)

Stats: PPG -- 29.6; RPG -- 12.2; APG -- 1.3; SPG -- 0.7; BPG -- 2.4; FG% -- .583; 3P% -- .000; FT% -- .855
Comment: With Steve Nash somewhat being on the twilight of his career, Amare knew it was time to step up, and step up he did; Despite his team's struggles, Amare has been doing his part, averaging almost 30 points a game to go along with 12 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game. Now that's impressive.

8. Yao Ming, Houston Rockets (14-4)

Stats: PPG -- 20.2; RPG -- 11.9; APG -- 1.2; SPG -- 0.2; BPG -- 2.8; FG% -- .525; 3P% -- .000; FT% -- .802
Comment: There is a reason this man gets voted onto every All-Star game as a starter - he can really play. You may say he's a 7 foot 6 giant, but how many 7 footers do you see dropping fadeaways, 17 foot jumpers, passing ability, nimble post moves like the great wall does? By averaging 20 points and just under 12 rebounds a game, along with 2.8 swats, Yao Ming has his Rockets on a roll and sitting comfortably in 3rd place in the West.

9. LeBron James, Sacramento Kings (9-7)

Stats: PPG -- 24.2; RPG -- 9.1; APG -- 6.3; SPG -- 1.5; BPG -- 2.1; FG% -- .500; 3P% -- .340; FT% -- .674
Comment: The Sacramento Kings went through a roller-coaster ride last season, bouncing back and forth from the top seeds to as low as the 8th seed, and eventually that got them into a first round sweep from the eventual champion Los Angeles Lakers. This season has also been a struggle thus far, but King James' numbers remain impressive. Perhaps that's the problem?

10. Rajon Rondo, Boston Celtics (11-6)

Stats: PPG -- 18.8; RPG -- 6.6; APG -- 9.4; SPG -- 2.5; BPG -- 0.2; FG% -- .557; 3P% -- .411; FT% -- .611
Comment: If anyone is to be credited for the Celtics' successes despite their big three's apparent aging process, it would have to be Rajon Rondo. Rondo has clearly improved his offensive game, as he is putting up close to 19 points a game alongside his 9.4 assists, 6.6 rebounds and 2.5 steals. Just one month into the season, he has already had 2 triple doubles recorded in his name.

Chris Paul may have the most compelling MVP case of all time. Truly epic numbers, and his team is the opposite of last year's Nets. Its also great to see my guy doing well. I'm the next Nash. (Y)

Thank Brandon Roy for letting you shoot so many open shots with the double teams he draws :P

I agree, I hope they won't but at this rate they'll either go 82-0 or beat the Bulls' 72-10 record at the least.... :x
Surprised at how well you are shooting the ball from deep, but I guess having D-Wade there helps (Y)

Deng's career-high 39 points sends Bulls past LeBron's Kings

Image
Luol Deng wins the game for Chicago with style

Sacramento, CA - This is the Luol Deng that the Bulls want to see.

Deng scored a career high 39 points, including the game winning poster dunk on LeBron James and Jason Thompson with 2.8 seconds remaining, to help the Bulls escape Sacramento with a 110-108 victory over the Kings and their King, LeBron James.

"We just shot the ball well. We moved it and shot it well." said Deng. "You're going to get shots in different places [in our offense], so you've go to be ready."

Deng's previous career best was 38 points, against the Portland Trailblazers on March 26, 2007.

The Bulls got out to a quick start and was on fire offensively for the entire first half and held a 12 point lead going into the second half, but the Kings, led by LeBron James and Manu Ginobili, caught fire and came roaring back.

Deng nearly single handedly kept the Bulls in the game, scoring 20 of his 39 points in the second half - 12 in the final quarter, including the emphatic game winner. He was 15 for 28 from the field, 1 for 2 from downtown and had a perfect 8 for 8 from the charity stripe in 32 minutes.

"Our defense wasn't the best tonight in the second half" said Byron Scott "But Luol kept us in it, he was really big for us"

Derrick Rose had another spectular performance with 26 points, 4 rebounds and 9 assists while Joakim Noah dominated yet again in the low block, finishing with a double double of 11 points, 14 rebounds and 5 rejections.

Carlos Boozer also notched a double double with 12 points and 10 rebounds while Kyle Korver chipped in with 9 points off the bench.

Deng's efforts on LeBron James on the defensive end kept the King in check for most of the first three quarters, and it was Manu who stepped up for Sacramento, as he scored a team high 37 points on 14 for 26 shooting, including a 4 for 8 showing from three point range and 5 for 6 from the line.

Tyreke Evans added 13 points and 15 assists while Jason Thompson notched a double double of 10 points and 12 rebounds.

However, it was only when LeBron began to pick his game up, that the Kings began to come back.

LeBron came alive in the fourth quarter, scoring 16 of his 22 points and dished out 4 of his 7 assists in the final period. He was 10 for 24 from the field, but shot 0 for 5 from deep and just 2 for 4 from thef free throw line.

"I had three bad quarters offensively tonight" said James "They got lucky, it ain't gonna happen again"

Maybe so, but the fact remains that Deng outplayed the King tonight.

The Bulls are now 10-6 while the Kings fall to 9-8.
