I'm not that cruel. I mean... why don't you go kill of Captain Jack? :P Much more realistic than Durant dying.

I must say, the man does speak the truth

Nice article about Nixon. A really good steal with the 12th pick I guess.
Well maybe you're right, it would be easier to let Jack die in a gunfight or like Lamrock did, let Monta Ellis die as he's a bad motorcycle rider.
The only way to kill Durant would end with Amare being sent to prison ;)

Roy, Durant Locked In Epic Scoring Duel

Preview | Box Score | Recap

Image
Kevin Durant and Brandon Roy; there could only be one winner

5 May, 2011

SEATTLE (AP) – No one could have predicted that Kevin Durant and Brandon Roy were going to put on the kind of show that they put on for Game Three of the Seattle Stealth and Portland Trailblazers second round series. Durant and Roy put on a performance for the ages; a feat that many do not expect to be repeated for a while.

Roy scored 53 points and won the individual scoring battle against nemesis Durant. However, even though Durant scored 1 point less than Roy, he also grabbed 10 rebounds while willing his team to victory.

Both teams needed every single one of their stars’ points as the most of the other players seemed to struggle for much of the night. Ben Gordon and Steve Nash were both cold for most of the game while the Stealth were missing key forwards David Lee and Rasheed Wallace; resulting in less of a scoring punch down low and Andrew Bogut struggling against Greg Oden and Carlos Boozer.

Durant, the NBA’s leading scorer, was only a single point off of his season high. It was not surprising to see him have the type of game that he conjured however no one could have foresaw Roy’s big night. The Blazers guard’s previous career high was 39 points. The 5 year pro easily eclipsed that mark; it included an amazing 28 point fourth quarter.

Blazers’ coach Nate McMillan was gushing in his post game interview, “Wow. I don’t have any words to explain this. Just wow. Brandon Roy stood up to the best player in the NBA and matched him pound for pound. I couldn’t believe my eyes. Someone pinch me and tell me that just happened.” McMillan didn’t even seem bothered that his team lost the game, “This was such a special night that I’ve forgotten about us dropping the game. I guess I could be more disappointed but I’m still shocked over what happened. Wow.”

Roy laughed off suggestions that he was going to pick up more of the scoring load, “I did it out of necessity tonight. I had to step up to carry the team. We play good with our philosophy of balanced scoring so I’m not going to ruin that. No way.” Durant praised Roy after the game as well, “I gained a whole lot more respect for him but this does not give Portland a free pass to the next round. We’re back in it and I’m going to lead my team baby.”

The scoring duel between Roy and Durant has to rank right up there with the likes of the feats of Larry Bird and Dominique Wilkins in 1988 and LeBron James and Paul Pierce in 2008. The only knock against Roy and Durant is that the latter two feats came in Game Seven’s and with more on the line. However, George Karl argued that a lot was at stake last night, “If we had lost, we would be down 3-0 and the series would certainly be over. There was a lot at stake. I think this is going down as a classic and will be watched over and over again in the future. This was exciting.”

Seattle jumped to another early lead, courtesy of Jason Kidd. Kidd came out aggressive and opened the game with a jumper. He went on to score another bucket and set up the other two only baskets of the game. After Seattle took an 8-0 lead, thanks to Bogut’s dunk in the opening stages of the game; Portland called a timeout. Seattle would jump to a 12-0 lead before Portland chipped away at their lead as well as playing stifling defense.

The second quarter was when it got interesting as Roy and Durant began their scoring race. Both of them combined to make nine consecutive baskets for one stretch of the game. Highlights of that stretch included a Roy dunk in traffic and a Durant fade away after backing down Roy. Both players kept the game close as they each scored 12 points apiece in the second quarter. Roy finished with 21 first half points and Durant had recorded 18 by the half.

Seattle took a lead in the third quarter thanks to two big three pointers from Raja Bell. Bell hit the second of his triples from afar and that got the crowd on their feet. Seattle rode that momentum despite Kidd picking up an early fourth personal foul; forcing him to the bench. Durant continued his hot form with 12 third quarter points and led his team to a 24-16 third quarter.

The fourth quarter was breathtaking as all but a handful of buckets was scored by the brilliant Brandon Roy and Kevin Durant. Roy scored 28 of his team’s 33 points while Durant added 22 of the Stealth’s 33 points. Durant only played a little more than half of the final period. Seattle was able to hold onto the game despite Roy leading the Blazers back into it by instigating an early 14-2 run to start the final quarter. The Blazers held a slim lead for a little while before Durant came back onto the court. The NBA scoring leader kept the Blazers at bay by matching Roy’s best efforts with the game on the line.

“That was the best game I have played all season,” Durant said, generous with his praise, “Brandon Roy helped bring out the best in me. I never admit (expletive) like this.”

Notes: Injured David Lee was able to play for a short while in the third quarter. He finished with 2 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists. Lee’s replacement Chris Wilcox in the starting five was solid with 12 points, 8 rebounds… With less than 10 seconds left, Portland called a timeout to try and set up Roy with a shot that would have pushed his new career high even further. Durant forced him into a tough shot and after grabbing the rebound, Andrew Bogut called a timeout with just less than 3 second remaining. Durant caught the ball on the low block and the crowd made a collective ‘ooh’ as the ball rolled off the rim… The Blazers hold a 2-1 lead but the Stealth are confident that they can win again on their home court in Game 4…

Thats a big call, T-Mac was never called best player in the NBA when he was having crazy scoring nights. I would argue that either LeBron or Chara would be the best in this association.
Great win by the way, will be one of those playoff games that goes down in history. Will be interesting to see why Tyson didn't start.

Wow, what an outburst by the two go-to-players. 28 and 22 in the fourth. That is wicked. Really a classic shootout and youre writing just once again made it feel like it was a real all time classic taking place.

No Ty in the starting five makes everybody eager for 33, same for me.

Chapter 33

“How you feeling?” George Karl asked Reshawn Tyson.
“Fine,” Ty replied.
The pair watched as the Stealth continued to warm up and the crowd continued to chant ‘my team.’ Some fans gave Trevor Ariza a standing ovation after he threw down another dunk. Durant tried to do an even better one but the ball hit the back of the rim and ricocheted into the crowd.
“Coach,” Ty turned to Karl, “Is the reason why I’m sitting out this game because of what happened earlier today?”
Karl lied, “I made an error of judgment. I don’t think its right to rush you back into the team.”
Ty tried to argue but Karl didn’t listen and got up to prowl the sideline. Minutes later, the game would tip off. Andrew Bogut, Chris Wilcox, Kevin Durant, Raja Bell, and Jason Kidd would start for Seattle. Bogut lined up against Greg Oden for the tip. The ref lobbed the ball in the air and the game would begin.

Bogut won the opening tip and Kidd took control of the ball. Kidd weaved his way past two defenders to open the scoring with a jumper. The Stealth were on an 8-0 run to start the game. Kidd had 4 points and 2 assists. He was prepared to lead the team. The Blazers had not seen Kidd so motivated for the series and immediately called a time out. Luckily for them, Kidd picked up a quick second foul before the middle of the first period and was forced to the bench. The quarter ended with both teams close at 20-18.
“Come on in! Quickly!” Karl was yelling at the first quarter break, “It’s a close game, let’s make sure we don’t screw it up this time. We let an early lead slip away so we have got to be resilient. These guys are good but we can be just as good as them.”
Durant stated, “I’m feeling it! Get me the ball!”
Karl ignored him, “Ok, we’re going with our usual game plan. Let’s get some good looks behind the arc and try and get Andrew the ball down low.”
The players returned to the floor for the second quarter. Durant and Roy were matched up against each other.
“You threw the game for your team last year,” Roy reminded Durant.
Durant thought back to the Western Conference Finals, “No I didn’t.”
“Yeah you did,” Roy snickered.
Durant retorted, “Well, no one will believe you. We ended up winning the game anyway. Made your boy Travis Outlaw look good too. He can thank me later for his fat contract.”
Roy replied, “You really do think you’re the best player in the league.”
Durant laughed, “Don’t even talk to me about that. You’re not on my level.”
“Want to bet?”
“Prove it to me,” dared Durant.
“My pleasure,” smiled Roy.
The Blazers weren’t getting much done so Roy decided that it was time to step up. Roy began with two jumpers. Durant could tell that Roy was out to prove a point and being the competitor he was, he was ready to do the same even if Coach Karl asked him not to. With the Blazers taking a small lead, Durant caught the ball at the free throw line and backed down on Roy. He turned and stepped back, then shooting a fade away. It was a swish and the crowd loved it. Roy got the ball on the other end and burned Durant before slamming it down. Durant returned the favour and took Roy into the post before shooting a hook shot over him. The pair went at each other for the rest of the quarter. Their personal tallies at the half was 21 for Roy and 18 for Durant. Nate McMillan had given Roy the green light to shoot. Karl did not want Durant to get into a scoring duel with Roy but did not say anything. Durant was keeping his team in the game after all. The scoring duel took a little hiatus in the third quarter as Roy cooled down. Durant was solid as he pushed ahead of Roy as well as helped Seattle take a small lead. The injured David Lee even played a few minutes. Lee had a dunk, and then grabbed a rebound on the defensive end that led to a fast break. He later grabbed an offensive board, and then dished it to Durant for a dunk.
“Decided to stop shooting have you?” Durant taunted Roy, “Looks like my team is winning baby.”
With seconds left, Roy pushed Durant away and cut for the ball. Durant chased and ankle tapped him. Roy was face down on the court as the buzzer sounded and he got no call. Roy rolled over on his back and looked a bit dazed. Durant stuck his hand out. Roy reach for it and Durant pulled away.
“You wish,” laughed Durant as he turned to return to the Stealth bench.
Steve Nash had come over to help Roy up.
“That guy is a total douche,” Nash stated to Roy.
Roy nodded, “I’m angry now.”
Nash encouraged Roy, “Just let it all out man. We need you to lead us in the last quarter.”

Roy calmed down over the halftime break and conserved his energy throughout the third quarter. He couldn’t keep up with Durant who played yet another energetic third quarter. Durant scored 12 points in the third quarter, compared to Roy’s 4. Raja Bell hit a three to start the second half and later added another triple from way down town. The crowd gave him a standing ovation and he later scored a layup on the fast break. Seattle’s press was working as they forced Portland into a number of turnovers. The Stealth had a 10 point lead heading into the final quarter.
“Brandon,” Nate McMillan instructed, “Time for you to step up son. You ready?”
Roy replied eagerly, “Yes sir.”
George Karl had decided to let Durant sit out the opening moments of the final quarter and it looked like his team paid the price. Roy was on fire as he helped the Blazers take a lead, thanks to a 14-2 run at the start of the final quarter.
“Get back in there!” Karl yelled over to Durant.
The NBA scoring leader couldn’t help but oblige and returned onto the floor. Then, Roy and Durant put on an encore performance from their intense second quarter scoring battle. This time, however, was better than the first. Roy had 28 fourth quarter points while Durant had 22. Durant and the Stealth finally had the game in their hands after a huge Durant jam on Roy. Roy was called for the foul and Durant missed the free throw but Bogut got the rebound. Durant would then slam down another dunk; putting his team up by 9 with a minute left.

The Blazers made a strange move and took a timeout with under 10 seconds left to set up Roy with a shot. Durant played tight defense and forced him to take a wild shot. Bogut pulled down the rebound and called a timeout with just under a second left. He wanted Durant to get the last shot.
“Thanks man,” Durant said to Bogut.
Bogut gave him a high five, “If they want to stat pad then I say we do it too. You’ve got to beat that clown on the other team.”
Durant had 52. Roy had 53. A shot for Durant at the buzzer would mean he would have won the scoring battle between him and Roy. Durant wanted to prove a point. Scoring more points and leading his team to the win. He wanted to prove that he was the best in the NBA. Karl did not say anything and watched on as his five on-court players talk things over how they were going to set up Durant with the last shot.
“You better sink this or else that was all for nothing,” Kidd laughed as the players returned to the floor.
“Stat padding,” Roy said to Durant.
Durant replied, “The same thing to you too.”
The ref blew his whistle and Bell was looking for Durant. Durant cut to the low block closest to Bell and called for the ball. Bell passed the ball in. Durant caught it and in one fluid motion pivoted to turn and faced the hoop. As time quickly ran out, Durant lifted off the ground and took the jumper. The buzzer sounded and the ball rolled out off the rim. Durant looked over and saw Roy walking off the court with a scowl on his face. He was going to go and congratulate him but held back. Durant lifted his arms in the air and bounced up the court towards the bench. The crowd was boisterously cheering, ‘my team baby, my team baby, my team baby.’ The chorus of cheers filled the arena as Durant pointed to each corner of the stadium. After pointing to one corner, he would raise his right fist in the air then hit his chest, and then he would turn and do the same to a different corner of the stadium. The crowd loved it. The sideline reporter, Cheryl Miller, came to interview him after he had finished his new post-game celebration.
“Kevin, what an amazing performance from you and Brandon Roy tonight; 28 from Brandon in the last quarter and you had 22. It was an exciting finish,” Miller said, “How do you feel?”
Durant went straight into it, “You know Cheryl, this is my team baby and I was not going to let us go down 0 games to 3. I had to step up. Brandon Roy played amazing basketball tonight, I gained a whole new level of respect for him. I didn’t know he was that good.”
Miller asked, “Do you think you will have this kind of game again in the next one?”
Durant was a bit puffed and sounded like he was about to choke on a few of his words as he replied, “I think it’s safe to say this was a once off. I think I am capable of this again but we will see what the team needs. If they need me to score 50 again, I’m happy to do it.”
“Thanks for a great game tonight.”
“Thank you!” Durant shouted as he turned to run towards the tunnel in the midst of the roaring and approving Stealth fans.
Durant was greeted by anyone he saw along the way back to the locker room. He gave them high fives and hugs as he made his way to his team mates. He had just scored 52 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead his team to a win against the Blazers. Seattle could be back in this after Game 4; if they win it.
