Can you not read the several mentions of dunks?

Played the Demo...fail of a demo in my opinion. Not being able to choose my team and giving me 4 minutes to have some idea what i'm doing is insanity.

However as the far game goes, I'm still undecided. Some minutes i played going "wow, this could be the most real and best basketball game ever." In the next minute i'd be going "WHAT THE FUCK? WHY AM I STUCK ON RONDO?" Waiting on Elite 11 demo to make a decision, and even then i may just wait for what you guys say here. (Elite's promise of NBA Jam makes me want it alot more than before though...)

Coolest thing i've seen happen though: Rondo, Ray Allen fast break, im controlling artest and try to get in front of rondo. Rondo passes it through my legs to allen for the easy hoop. I hadnt seen that animation and it makes the players feel less blocky and more like humans with legs and arms.

I think there's just too much missing to really judge the game here. Give me commentary, player chatter, ability to sub in/see subbing methods etc. All that stuff has broken games before for me, I'd kinda like to see it in the demo before i drop 60 on a game.

^Agreed. Only thing one can really do is learn the controls, the changed isomotion, the sizeup's, the freestyle passing(heh, hold RB/R1 + right stick), and try to get some feel for the gameplay.

They should have just put you in one quarter of one of MJ's games.

Will 2k11 or Elite have tip jams? I've been waiting so long for that feature in a Basketball game.... That's why i'd still prefer to play Run'N'Gun! :)

all of the 2k games have tip slams. 2k10's were the best IMO and the 2 I've seen in the demo were nasty as well.

all of the PS2/Xbox/PC Live games had Tip Dunks. As did Live 06, 07, and 08 on the 360/PS3. They were taken out in 09 because they were glitched out in 08 and 10 only had lay in tips. They are back in Elite 11 as seen in this quick clip. http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=460648927447
Opinions are my own.

Sounds a bit like the layup control in NBA Live 10, which I found led to similar situations at times. I guess it's a minor detail in the grand scheme of things but it does look a little silly and could potentially screw you over if there's a defender on your heels for a chase down block.

Last gen NBA Live had them from 2004 through 09. They expanded the controls in 2005 to allow you to manually attempt a tip, putback dunk or just go up for the rebound. NBA Elite 11's are going to be contextual, but you do have some control over it in that you can position yourself in such a way that your player will attempt a tip or putback (if they can dunk) instead. So both games will have them this year. (Y)

Played demo a bit more for first time since I downloaded it & it's a bit underwhelming. I think it still feels better than 2k10, but not completely sold. Maybe playing as the more diverse Celtics & having full play calling might've helped.

Will wait on Association Insight & Elite demo to make my decision.

And the one quarter of regular gameplay is 12 minutes I believe, which is a longer glimpse than usual. The 2K Draft Combine wasn't released in all regions either.

What I saw and felt in the demo was good. But it was so stripped down it really didn't demo the game.

Games don't come free to try the whole version. That makes the demo the test drive.

Missing playcalling, play multiple teams, SIM setting - it was like test driving a car that can only drive forwards (no turns), is limited to 35MPH, and can only be driven in a parking lot. Meanwhile the car's commercials talk about responsive cornering, performance at highway speeds, and fun to drive on the road.

"Do you want to buy it after that test drive?"

I don't know. I haven't really test driven it.

I like that analogy. (Y) Given the difference between the NBA 2K10 demo and the finished product though, I'm still optimistic that the full version of NBA 2K11 will similarly be far more impressive than the brief, stripped-down demo.

I also liked the analogy (Y) Although I do have to say, if the game does end up being far more impressive than demo then I don't really see the point in even releasing a demo. 2k were going to sell well anyways based on the Jordan cover (& content), the game's PR & its goodwill. Releasing a half arsed demo may potentially lose a few customers (especially if Elite's demo is good).

I don't think they'll loose customers with the demo. The most important part of an NBA game for many guys out there is the gameplay and you can certainly get a good impression of that in the demo. Further a demo is usually nothing more than a teaser. I think EA made a clever move in giving their fans a well-rounded demo (at least that's what they are announcing), but I also see it as a countermove to the really way too much limited 2k demo. I don't think that the Elite demo would have been that big, if 2k had not been criticized for their demo. Maybe that's just an assumption.

I'm definitely teased by the 2k demo, still I understand all the guys who are disappointed by the lack of options in the in it. (they could at least let us change the teams -.- )

It's definitely an assumption. What's in the demo is decided beforehand. That's why its always an early build. They have to make sure it workds properly, and get certified in time to get it out before the game is released.

Depending on what EA is bringing to the table, they might lose a few customers or at least more people might invest in both/be inclined to rent the full versions of both before making a final decision but I think the trust in the brand will prevail.

Does the demo shy away from the contact in the paint? Like in 2K10 the would have contact with no fouls call and it would piss me off so much, they fix that in the demo?

There's definitely contact in the paint with some nice collisions.
