NBA 2k11 PC Patch Released - Impressions

Fingers crossed for some good news.

Upon release, I did think PC users were finally getting treated well. Mainly because they had address issues from 2k9, which they didn't address in 2k10 - for example, proper trigger support and game icons. Albeit, they didn't bother to upgrade the menu (and the reason Ronnie gave was rubbish). However, as this patch situation is the same as last year's, I guess they still don't care enough about the PC market beyond releasing an initial product.

mouse navigation with the 2k10 menu system (or PC 2k11) is a lot easier than the PC 2k9 (console 2k11) menu system, that is my opinion and while I wish they would have added a new background picture or something, I still agree with that design choice.

I'd still prefer a menu similar to the consoles but I have gotten used to the style used in 2K11 PC.

Meanwhile, looks like we have some good news after all: PC Patch is coming this Friday.

The PC patch is ready for release and will be at approximately 11 AM PST on Friday morning. We're hoping we got as many DD's as we could, next year we're hoping for a process that makes that step easier.

Unfortunately we couldn't completely get around the bug above for the disk version of the game but an easy workaround was discovered. Most of you have probably set the language to English but those who haven't MAY have to reinstall the game in English to get the patch. Please do so if you run into any difficulty.

Lastly, I will be releasing notes Friday morning shortly after the patch goes live. Thank you!

Even if the menu is better than the console version, the reason it wasn't "upgraded" (as far as we know via Ronnie) wasn't because the developers thought the old one was superior but because of supposed technical limitations. From that perspective, the situation sucks, but if it was an genuine design choice then yeah, that would be fine.

Good news about the patch. About time. It doesn't make this entire delay any more acceptable, but I'm glad nonetheless. I will force out a smile

I gotta say, I am pretty giddy over being able to play Association mode properly and play online without the shitty graphics.

If they have a timetable for Friday, that means its done. I don't see why they just push it and release ASAP.

What's with all these people using mice for the menus? I prefer to use the controller, and these menus are a bit of a pain with that.

I find the menu system for 2K10/2K11 much easier to navigate with a controller compared to 2K9's. That's just me though.

Let's make one thing perfectly clear. The patch was delayed about an extra month for a bug that wasn't fixed.

The wiki article is talking about the console version which recently had a final patch that added 3D and fixed unranked disconnects. This is what Ronnie wrote on twitter:

Fair enough. Still, the Wikipedia edit specified any version of NBA 2K11, which was incorrect information.

My personal opinion on the release of this PC game patch for the DVD version of the game is that you will see NO-ONLINE FIX - 2K has simply PROVEN over the past 3 years that they cant get it right. They released a PATCH last year for 2K10 and it did not FIX the UNDER BASKET DISCONNECT GLITCH. Further, the issues they are having with NETWORK ERROR DISCONECTIONS is happening due to a HARDWARE ISSUES namely, 2K's old crappy servers they are still using from 1999...Mark my words, i GUARANTEE the ONLINE PROBLEMS will NOT BE FIXED! GUARANTEED! - I have read thousands of posts in the 2K forums from Console players to PC players, and they all have had problems and issues with online since 2K8..So there wont be any change there. Also, 2K said last year they were getting NEW FIBER OPTIC GAME SERVERS, which we all know now was a COMPLETE AND UTTER LIE!

2K cannot be trusted any more, plus they make people wait 4-6 months every year for a stupid patch that doesn't work..
