Anyone want to help a newbie?

Postby GoLowDrew on Sat Apr 23, 2011 2:09 am

I was a hardcore Live fan since back since 1997. With the disappointments in Live for 5+ years, I been playing on the college title (EA). I've been ignoring 2K titles, becuase I just didn't give up hope. Anyhow, I think it's time.

I've not kept up at all with NBA 2K, please here are my newbie questions.

1. Is the coach is the same. Jackson will always be the Laker's coach, so therefore in the game. Can I change the coache's name/image/graphics?

2. How many years of Dynasty mode does the game have? (Sorry, I know that's a Live term, I don't know what 2K calls it.)

3. Can I create a custom team? (No).

4. Can I create and edit a player in middle of the season in the Dynasty mode? Or I can edit, but can't create once the Dynasty starts?

5. If I can edit the players, can I change their height and weight? Not just in numbers, but it "real" size. If a player come back next season at 350lbs, he looks wide (fat) in the game.

6. Can I change the Rating ability of a player to what I wish? I want to change this player's 3pt shooting ability to 99. Can I do that? Or am I limited in some way. Do I have the freedom to creat a super player? Can I do this at anytime in Dynasty?

7. Each year the game add new players, and therefore, new faces. The faces gets recycled over time. Will I see Kobe, Shaq, Duncan's or Wade's face come back on another new player?

8. The game will also sim trades, correct? Can I accept and decline trade offers?

9. Can I switch teams? Meaning, I'm playing the Bulls now. Won 5 Championships. I got tired with them. Now, I want to play the Lakers. It's still in the same Dynasty. And I'm trying to beat the Bulls, and their 5 championships. So do I have to stay with the same team in the same Dynasty?

I'm already DL the demo. But playing the demo don't answer these questions.

Much thanks.

1. I think he'll always remain coach of the Lakers. I don't think you can change it, but in association mode, it can get to a point where he'll retire, and you'll be able to hire a new coach.

2. It's called Association in 2K, but I'd imagine it has the 25 years that Live also had, though it could be more.

3. Yes, you can. You can either stock it up on real players, or create your own players and put them on that team.

4. You can edit a player's ratings, tendencies, and even salary during the mode, but you can't create another player. There are draft classes which you can have the game generate, or you can download from 2K share. I'd recommend creating your player there, so he can be drafted during the offseason.

5. Not sure about this one. No, you can't edit their height and weight iirc, though.

6. Yes, you can edit Kwame Brown to be the next Hakeem Olajuwon if you wanted. That's how much freedom association gives you in 2K. (Y)

7. Do you mean in association mode? If it is, I don't think so, because the rookie faces are pretty generic (although you don't see many porno mustaches like in Live). But yeah, I'm not sure about this one either.

8. Yes, you can. Some of the offers are ridiculous, and some CPU trades are pretty ridiculous as well. I was once offered David West for Yao Ming and Aaron Brooks, or something along those lines. 2K even allows you to do trades for other teams.

9. Yes, you can switch teams in 2K. You go to General Manager > Resign Position, and then you can choose whatever team you want to go to. That's also how you do trades for other teams, by resigning position.

Hope I was of some help. Hopefully someone else can answer the questions I wasn't sure about.

1. You don't even have to wait for a coach to retire. You can fire their ass as soon as you begin Association mode.

2. iirc, it's 40 seasons.

5. You can edit the height and weight but you won't notice any physical changes when you edit the weight.

7. At some point (say 30 seasons) you will see 'recycled' faces for generated players because you have seen most of them. Some names will also repeat, especially for foreign players.

1. Can I edit the names that the system generate it? So if I see (and remember) the same names.

2. I don't mind the recycled faces if they are generic. I just don't want to see Pau Gasol's face also on Rookies name Tyrone Johnson or Tom Wang.

I think you can edit the names of the generated draft prospects if memory serves me right.
When you finish a season and before you start a new season in Association mode, the game will asks you if you want to load a draft class or edit the generated prospects for the next year's draft. You can edit the generated prospects while the saved/downloaded draft class can be edited outside of association.
