Well, it isn't as visually impressive as NBA 2K14 next gen, that much we can all agree upon. I thought there was more in this trailer that resembled the first look trailer but yeah, it is still aesthetically inferior.

There are some stiff and awkward animations, but a few nice ones as well. The net animation that was in the Steve Nash teaser doesn't look quite right, but others look better. On the whole, I don't think it looks bad so much as it's not on par with 2K14. I can get by with that, if the game feels good to play.

That's what I want to know and be shown next; raw gameplay, demonstrating artificial intelligence and the like. We've seen clips from actual gameplay so we can judge player models, animations and the like, but I'd like to see just how the game plays.

I am just going to flatout say it, visually and in movement, this does not look like a next gen title. This could easily pass as a PS360 game. I know the style is very clean, and the textures are very high resolution and sharp, but that doesn't do much while the game is in movement.

That said,
  • Who was guarding Noah on that Rose drive?
  • Off-ball animations are lacking
  • Graphics are definitely that "style" again, I do like them though
  • Away fans in the home crowd! (love this, at the end, Tyler Zeller Cavs uni in front row is visible)
  • Dribbling looks quick and seems responsive, just like past Live games
  • So, animations look a bit jerky, hopefully that pays off for implied responsiveness
  • Reflections are amazing, ball is amazing
  • Different arenas had different lighting
  • I hate painted on jersey wrinkles
  • Crowd models are better at least
  • Did anyone honestly think that Kyrie play was going to be a reverse layup?
  • I dont think this is a good representation of gameplay.

I can see where NBA.com was going with the videos thing. I think each section of this video was going to be split up like the Kyrie one, then mashed together at the end of the feature like this with all the finishes to the moves.

That said, this is nowhere near what we saw from 2K yesterday. No doubting that at all. I am still very excited to play this, I am still getting it ASAP, but I just really hope this is the foundation they need to build into the next generation.
Opinions are my own.

This is like an Upgraded version of NBA Live 09, which is a good thing!! Net Physics look good, just worried about the Lateral defense, in some parts of the video, the defense was left behind

I guess it's a good first showing of their game, I was hoping for 5v5 footage, I guess we'll have to wait for that

I wish people would stop always bringing 2K into the mix on everything. They've been established for years now and Live is just relaunching itself and has a long ways to go. They just gotta fix the player animations and the clunkiness a bit and it'll be decent enough for us to play it. Been stuck playing other bball games for years.

Wasn't impressed at all. Never the less, they definitely need to release it. Just basing on what they've released about the game, I wouldn't get it.

Anybody else think they could have made it feel a lot fresher, just by adding a new dunking sound?

I think it looks great. Of course 2K looked a lot better but it doesn't mean this is bad. I really like the melo shot and that Dwade dunk. The graphics aren't bad either. The dribbling looks amazing. Definitely a good foundation for the years ahead. The only problem that bothers me is the stiffness. Look at the Nash clip compared to the others. I really think that was from an old build. :applaud: Nice job for your first attempt on Next gen EA.

It looks like....typical NBA Live.

Still have the awkward running animations
Still have the lanky/disjointed player body animations
Still have skin complexions that are way off

Something I noticed a very long time ago but it's hard to explain....it's like the NBA Live Player models don't have enough articulation in their torsos. They end up looking like arms/legs/head attached to a rectangular box.

Well I'm still looking forward to seeing how the game plays, though who knows when I'll get to see that since I'm not getting a next gen system yet....

Well unfortunately this is relevant to the discussion seeing as 2k is the direct competitior. As for making an excuse that live is just now relaunching, EA has had YEARS to perfect their engine. If anything the game should be even more polished and damn near spectacular. I agree that it does look more current gen than next gen. I am disappointed that with so much time to develope their game the product they are releasing still seems lacking in many areas. Unfortunately for EA 2k has set the bar rather high and it will take a monumental effort on EA's part to compete on the same level.

I do have one question, anyone know if NBA Live has NBA legends as well?

Whatever I'll play the game, I'm just excited that Live is back. If your happy with 2K go play it but we don't have to ruin the experience based on what the competitor is doing is all I'm saying.

When people parse words, something is amiss.

They've been promising an NBA Live 14 game play video. They release a game play trailer. An edited trailer is not the image "game play video" placed in people's minds, and EA knows it.

I think Live just succeeded for the first time in 4 years. Overall it's the most positive buzz since Live 10.
Looks like an improved version of Live 10 to me. Trailer got me hyped, I was expecting a live 13ish trailer.
It has it's work cut out for it, but it's a start and that's what most peeps are saying. It looks like a fun game, liked a good amount of stuff in it.

goods.
1. The dribbling man, this is the best dribbling in any game to date. Looks like you can really get faked out. Look at Dwill bobbn his head.
2. How the defenders were wobbling trying to predict the ball handler.
3. The game up close looks very good. Wade's bit really looked like a Wade-esq dunk and landing to me.
4. Joe johnson's block attempt.. He went for the ball.
5. Liked the Kobe post up aggression / defenders not trying to block shots but contest them - blind their vision (Melo's shot).
6. Glad momentum shots are back. I can only speculate because it looked like James harden was running at the start - that Greene caught and shot in stride... Could just be his normal shot. It looked good either way, shot it with urgency.
7.The reactions in general looked better. Felton got the mess shook out of him and didn't do that Dame crab walk, he tried to get back and it looked realer.../ I liked the gather Rose did before the dunk, it's better than nothing.

negs
1. Defense looks funny/ unaware to whats going on -- Like Rondo guarding Kemba's stepback. Just think it could look more reactive, moving his hands and what not.--- The dude Rose crossed didn't try getting back in the play. He took the time to turn around but nothing else. Looks better when they do that little dip and run after the ball handler.
2. Don't give us time to digest dunks. It happens a wee bit to quick to appreciate them fully, don't float enough.
3. Melo's shot starts off a bit slow. Whether that's a late input or just how it is, who knows.
4. Why did Stat help on Irving instead of Chandler? Why didn't Melo/Felton make an attempt to rotate to Stats dude?
5. On dunks -- Have the ball slam through! Bounce on the floor hard and bounce away. Just saying, authority is one of the best looking things in dunks. Ross's dunk here was a big dunk but a light finish.

Not much I can say I dislike, I'd have to cover the Nash bit for that. It's a trailer, if the defense disappears like the Rose play in an actual gameplay vid then it's time to worry. This could all be an older build if it was all made from the date of that first look trailer. If that's the case it's always a good thing no matter what game it is... Also wanted to add that if they put the kind of detail they put in dribbling in other aspects of the game they can have something special. They've shown they can nail dribbling to the T, time to nail some other things.

I thought it was going to be worse, but I liked it. Definitely has that NBA Live feel and style to it. You can really tell the focus was on the dribbling, as many of the moves look quick, responsive, fluid and seamless. Hopefully they can focus on locomotion for players who are not dribbling in the next iteration.

I don't know why anyone thinks it looks like a ps2 or an old Live game. Go look at NBA Live 09 trailers and PS2 trailers and rethink that opinion. Sure, it doesn't have the eye candy that 2K14 has, but it looks better than any Live 13 footage we have seen, better than Elite 11, and better than Live 10.

Yes, this is the stiffness and robotic like movement that people complain about. It's like their backs are completely still and don't flex. It's not in every animation, but there are enough of them for it to be noticeable.

Trailer........ for me did one thing.... I had to go to gamestop. The stiffness, lag, herky jerky movement is too much for me to handle. Much respect to the EA and the people who will buy this, but I cancelled my preorder today. Maybe a black friday pick up for me if i can find it for around $30, but thats about it. IMO the trailer looked awful. and not just from a graphics standpoint, but the movement. While dribbling in place looked amazing, we players moved or transitioned, i saw nba live 13 all over again. No thanks, but best of luck to EA.

I actually like how the gameplay looks. The dribbling looks nice and I like how they try to blind the opponent instead of attempting a block like every time in like 2k. The graphics aren't on par with 2k. But... it won't look as good as they were on the trailer. On that trailer I'm pretty sure it was computer generated. All in all I'm getting both games as they both look great to me.

Well, there's the trailer... To the folks that don't want to hear about 2K - I get what your saying, but since we're reviewing our options on the basketball front, its a salient point. I was rooting for Live to make a comeback; competition is good for everyone.

The Good:
*Live did something
*The graphics are nice (albiet, cartoony?), and the textures are high quality. That ball looks wicked.
*I liked the music...
*Some animations were nice (layups) and the allyoop. Deceptive eyes following the pass were nice.
*Dibbles look great.
*Arenas look awesome.
*Crowd looks great.

The questionable:
*Took Live a while to come out with this. Still haven't shown us gameplay.
*Some animations were really, really strange. The drive moves (nash... stuck in slow motion hobble?) Rose stuttering before going up for the dunk?
*Things that aren't dribbles dont look great. The jump shots look strange.
*Players look stiff and unnatural.

Overall, I'm happy that Live is coming out with something. I bought 2k on the PC, and had hoped to get live on the PS4, but this trailer kind of turned me off, to be honest. Hopefully they will release some more that will rekindle the interest...
Thanks

What is the "something" that you're talking about ?
I can't agree that the graphics are nice because it's all about "NEXT GEN"
They might pull out this game again with too much disappointment from the fans
Anyways, i should respect your opinion .. Peace Bro ! :)
