Will they rebuild Live/Elite from scratch for 2012 ?

Postby ChrisCP3Paul on Mon Nov 08, 2010 3:38 am

I'm just wondering now that it's being moved out of EA Canada, which is like literally 5 mins down the street for me, I'm wondering how EA Tiburon is going to make this game better ? You got EA's 2 greatest games Fifa and NHL that come out of the Canadian studios, then you got Tiburons Madden mess.... so it's obvious the game is getting moved to a worse studio that isn't capable of making an award winning game that devours competition like EA Canada's Fifa and NHL do....

I just don't get it, because it's obvious they have to rebuild NBA Live from the ground up if they plan on selling copies of Live 12 next year. They cannot and we all know, they simply CANNOT come back and just pretty up the graphics and add more signature jumpshots and crossovers then call it a day and hope to sell :cussing:

They need a full overhaul like a desperately needed new engine, proper animations not just of players looking pretty doing their signature dunks and moves but more importantly animations where the players properly interact with each other, also things like improved graphics, etc.....

So I don't understand how all this is supposed to take place at a studio that obviously isn't up to par when it comes to making very good games.
And by the way I like many others have switched over to 2K11 after playing exclusively Live since 99 with Antoine Walker on the cover, still have the N64 box and game I might just whip it out now and play
but for real though after really getting into 2K11 I find that the only thing that Live did better than 2K was player movement, in Live the connection between you the analog stick and the player on the screen Live is much smoother and much more controlled, I find my player going all over the place sometimes in 2K which really annoys me.

But for real though, I am expecting a ground breaking NBA Live 12 to come out next year, what about you guys ?

I would assume they're going to build upon what they'd done already for NBA Elite 11. Failing that, they'd be building on from NBA Live 10 but since they'd already put the time into the new stuff for Elite 11, I'd say that's what they'll be trying to build upon since starting over from scratch is just squandering an opportunity to spend extra time developing the game (which is the silver lining of the cancellation).

I don't think the move to Tiburon spells doom just because of any Madden shortcomings. Consider that Madden was often touted as one of EA's best releases before they gained the exclusive NFL license; while I can't comment specifically on the quality of Madden, it seems its decline is more attributed to the lack of competition rather than the mere fact it's developed by Tiburon, who were apparently doing a great job before the exclusive deal. Also consider that despite EA Canada's success with FIFA and NHL, that success hasn't been there in recent years with their NBA franchise.

Therefore, I'd suggest it doesn't matter so much where it's developed so much as who they get to develop it, what their focus is and what they do within one production cycle. It seems like they tried to do too much with NBA Elite 11, going for another overhaul instead of building upon NBA Live 10 and developing the new tech in the background to be introduced when it's properly polished. The success (or lackthereof) of the Madden, NHL and FIFA series ultimately doesn't mean nearly as much as what the developers working on NBA Live/Elite are themselves doing with the game during any given production cycle.

As for next year bringing a ground breaking game, I certainly hope so. I want there to be two strong games on the market so that we have a choice between two quality products depending on control scheme preference and extra features, such as 2K's Jordan Challenge. It would be extremely disappointing if the added development time cannot be put to good use but if they build upon what they've got, polishing it up and tweaking it as necessary, adding to the game modes and making it a well-rounded product, they've got a shot to bounce back in a big way.

I think the best thing for Live would be that the old team which worked on Live 10 should continue their job, because they done a nice job with Live 10,and just when the things looked like they will be back on its way,EA destroyed everything by putting stupid NHL team.I am not sure about EA Tiburon,if they begin to make game from scratch they have a chance to make something good.We will see.
Still taking my time to perfect the beat
And I still got love for the streets.

I disagree. If they start again from scratch, they're taking a step backwards and setting themselves up to do too much within one production cycle. They have to build on something, either NBA Elite 11 or NBA Live 10.

As for bringing back the NBA Live 10 team, those guys have either moved on to other games under the EA umbrella and some aren't working for the company any more, so that's not really feasible.

I really think that there is no excuse to improve this game now. Here are some things I would do

1) Multiplayer dyansty- There is no excuse not to have this since 2K has multiplayer in there association mode.

2) Season Mode- Bring this mode back for those who don't have time to play a dynasty.

3) Offseason Saving- This is something that needs to be done

4) In Game Save- be able to save during the game and come back to it later

5) Rookie Announcing- the commentary talks about the created generated rookies college days

6) 10 Day Contracts- be able to try out players in free agency to a 10 day contracts

7) Trade up to six players at a time

8)- D- League

9) Mini Games- Horse, Around the world, 21 and nickels and dimes

They need to have teams dedicated to each part of the game!!! They should go over budget to get this game back to where it needs to be. . .It might be bad for business, but they are WAY BEHIND in terms of competition

I don't know that they necessarily need a bigger team, they just need to stop trying to do too much within one production cycle. Obviously there's a lot that needs to be done but they don't need to add to that by scrapping everything they've got and starting over from scratch.
