Should EA make another name change ?

Postby jsparks94 on Sun Oct 03, 2010 4:30 pm

I honestly don't like the fact that EA changed the name to Elite....
And I've been an NBA Live fan for very long time! And it would be cool if EA can change the name back for all the NBA Live fans out there!!!

I wouldn't mind if they went back to the NBA Live moniker at this point, indeed given all that's happened it might help ease the bad PR with a sense of nostalgia, as Pastapadre pointed out in his reactions to the announcement about the delay. I think there's some merit in that though I think they might stick with Elite.

Go back to NBA Live, Elite didn't fit the bill quite well.

eh, Live died for me after Live 09. 10 had too many 2K elements for my Liveness if you will. Still, I'd rather see the "Live" name out there and push Elite into the failed experiment closet with Live 07 PS3.
Opinions are my own.

But as you're a fan of the 2K games too, wouldn't adopting some of 2K's ideas be a good thing?

nope, because I liked my games separated. I really enjoy(ed) Live 09. Once the new Live 10 DNA hits you can bet I'm going to give it a spin it again.

Before 2K9 I only enjoyed 2K because I liked the direction the game took. It wasn't as fun as Live for me and I liked the control in Live a lot better. I like 2K now for obvious PC reasons.

IMO Live 10 should have emulated 2K's animation variety, transitions and presentation. Not it's control scheme. (left stick moves, X shooting, longer canimations) They added the things I don't really like about 2K in Live 10.

Anyway, now that they have completely wiped the slate of Live 10 and 09 with Elite It doesn't really matter.
Opinions are my own.

Ah, fair enough. I'd certainly agree about the benefits of each having their own different control schemes...it'd be nice to have two quality products on the market that each had their own strengths/appeal depending on certain preferences, with enough customisation options that both could be enjoyed by sim and arcade gamers alike (and everyone in between). And of course, PC users.

2K11 IMO demonstrates that perfectly with the Casual sliders option.

That's something I'd like Live/Elite (whatever they end up going with, I'm still guessing Elite) to adopt, the different gamestyles while of course retaining the ability to customise them as 2K11 does. I know they've still got sliders in the game - stripped down as they may be - but I like the idea of optimised presets.

I really think they need to realize that dedicated fans will always get better results than their 8 month development cycle. Allow a fully customizable sim engine, trade logic, and draft classes for Dynasty mode. Let us customize the AIACT through the game, make our own sig shots and FFS more than 50 CAPs.

Hell they could add that on for $10 and I bet most everyone here and on OS would buy it.
Opinions are my own.

For $10, I'd definitely give it a shot. (Y)

They have already made a mistake, and moving forward with Elite is the right thing, imo. The problem in the past was that Live lacked direction, which is why it changed almost every year. They have a direction now, and should stick with Elite. Scrapping what they have every other year or claiming the need to "build a solid foundation" would continue to be disastrous for the franchise.

By all means build on what they've done this past year, tweaking and polishing as necessary, but as far as the name is concerned though, do you think the "Elite" brand has been damaged beyond repair before it's even hit shelves? They changed the name to coincide with the changes to the game and no doubt to try and shed the stigma that had become attached to the Live brand, but the reputation of the Elite brand is off to a rough start.
