Configuring Controls

Postby atlwarrior on Mon Jul 26, 2010 4:25 am

I was thinking when they said there will also be classic controls does that mean they'll also have controls from previous games like nba live 2005, Nba live 10 etc? I mean that wouldnt be a bad idea for the people who struggle to adjust to the new system. When you look at it games like Fight Night, Madden, and other successful EAsports titles have always had that but never understood why nba live (well addressed as Nba Elite now) has never given you the ability to use the controls of the previous games. Perfect example was how some people liked the system when you had a dunk button and a lay up button and shot button like in nba live 09. And some people liked the dunk/layup button separate from the shot button like in nba live 2005. And along with those add nba live 10's controls with it which I assume thyre already doing but why does it only have to be that one is all im saying. Anyways those i just mentioned would be the three best alternatives imo. That way everybody would be satisfied. I hope EA takes this into consideration for Elite 11.

biggest problem i had with Live 10 was shooting the X/Square. I immediately asked the dev over at OS and he didnt know what the alternate controls would use or if they would separate the dunk/shot buttons again (my guess is no)

fingers crossed though,

funny kinda related thing, NBA Live 2004 on the PS2 has the option to use the single shot button like in 2003
Opinions are my own.

NBA Live 09 had a dunk/layup button and a shoot button; NBA Live 07 is the only game to date to have a separate dunk, layup and shoot button. I wouldn't be surprised if the classic controls are similar to the scheme used in NBA Live 10, though I guess they might go a bit further back to the separate shooting controls of NBA Live 2004-09.

I really don't know about any Lives other than Live 10. But I kinda like having shooting on just one button. I'm eager to try the new control system though.

Having the separate buttons had its drawbacks but I still didn't mind that approach (three buttons was ultimately overkill though). The main drawback is that it was easy to become reliant on the dunk/layup button around the hoop when using the shoot button to attempt a hook or a short jumper from the post would sometimes be a better option (or conversely made things too easy). On the other hand, it gave you control over your attempt and basically eliminated the possibility of pulling up for a jumpshot when you didn't want to.

Yeah sometimes I aim my left stick towards the basket in an attempt to get to it, then press the shot button, but I attempt a jumper instead. Really annoying, especially since the CPU always contests my shots.

It was worse in the earlier games in the series because there wasn't really a running shot, you'd just find yourself performing a leaner a shade outside the distance where the game would trigger a dunk or layup...or sometimes within that area, meaning you'd have a breakaway and perform an awkward looking leaner a couple of feet from the basket.
