heres how to put rookies in draft after franchise is started

you can add rookies to a franchise already started. you just need to create the players in the default roster with the player creator to get a player id name for them and the attributes you want them to have and so on,save the roster under a new name , then go into dbviewer or dbcommander, change their teams to 30, the isgenerated and iscreated fields to true( number 1 in the box) the plyrs strengths and weaknesses if you want those (may need a little research for the category values), the players draft ratings to determine where they should go, etc.

i suggest using both dbviewer and dbcommander. with dbviewer you can see all the created players together at the bottom listed in order by plyrid numbers and you can make the changes with them all listed right there.

then save your franchise under a new folder as a test and save again at the end of the season before the off season starts so that you can go back to before the draft if you need to in order to get everything right or maybe change the player ratings to determine where they get drafted.

then open the roster save file that you named (with the created players in it) in dbcommander in the left field and the saved franchise test file in the right field and use the menus to transfer the players from the roster file (left) to the franchise file (right). then back in the game once you load the test file proceed to the offseason and go through all the phases and watch the draft to see if the new players show up. if everything is there and you're satisfied finish the offseason and then save that file as your franchise file in place of the old one and you're all done.

i just had emeka okufor (college plyr if nobody's heard of him) go 6th in a test draft with my current season and everything went fine, so it'll take some work and you'll have a ton of free agents but you can make a draft with real future stars, however you'll also have a tremendous amount of talented players crowding the early to mid first round so when rating the players for draft position, keep in mind where you think they should go or players that you feel should go 10 to 15 may get pushed down further by the cpu players bumped from the earlier picks.

It's not a patch, it's a method of doing it yourself. You cannot add rookies to the draft pool before you start a new Franchise, so it cannot be incorporated into a roster patch. You can add rookies yourself using jwin's method, before advancing to the next season.

I'll sticky this thread so it's easy for everyone to find. :)

I assume this can only be done on the PC version, and not on PS2, coz I want LeBron!

Are there any websites that show a mock draft for 2003?

it's in the players.dbf file of your saved franchise folder, between the origteam and rosterpos fields.

Do I need a zip drive or mp3 burner to access the DBF files, or can I acquire the CDBFW download and add my own rookies as if I were patching the game? Also, does the process for adding rookies work as you described it for Live 2000 . . . if not, what alterations do I need to make to your method? No one responds on the 2000 link, so I do appreciate your assistance here . . .

I have no idea what you just said, but if you want to add rookies to your pc version of NBA Live 2003, just open the database and add the rookies the way it says in the first post of this thread (Y)

Let me state the questions again, because I'm still looking for an answer:

How do I get into the NBA Live database to make the necessary changes to created players such that they'll become part of the draftable rookie pool?

Does this method work for NBA Live 2000 also?

Thanks.

It works for NBA Live 2000 and NBA Live 2001. With those two games, you can actually add the rookies to the roster before you start a new Franchise. With NBA Live 2003, you can only add them before advancing to the next season.

There's a topic in the Live 2000 forums on adding players to the draft that might be useful.

I could, but you'd still have to add the rookies yourself (importing the row of player data). There's also the problem of player IDs. It wouldn't really save anyone from editing players.dbf.

yeah but if u got some guys together to make the best selection of players, you could also include face patches, cos it aint that hard to edit the players.dbf its the creation of all the players dats hard.
