Dynasty Mode

Talk about NBA Live 10 here.

Dynasty Mode

Postby UVA44 on Fri Jul 30, 2010 7:56 am

The NBA Live 10 dynasty mode is unplayable (for me) for the following reasons.
1: Progression never happens on your team after the first season and if it does, a player's rating will go down instead of up.
2: The stats are awful
3: The draft classes are terrible as you are pressed to find a player with a 70 overall rating in the lottery and centers almost never start off with an overall of 70 or more (for me). Plus, on your team, progression never happens, there ratings just go down.
4: CPU trading is awful. In two of my dynasties, LeBron (96 ovr) was traded for Danny Granger (84 ovr) and Tim Duncan (89) was traded for Kevin Durant (90) and Russell Westbrook (83). These trades make no sense whatsoever.
5: Playoff upsets happen way to much
6: Their are no team/player options, bird rights, trade exceptions, etc. during the off season. Also, you are not allowed to trade before the draft and players that you didn't want resigned are resigned anyway by the CPU.

I like the Gameplay, but the dynasty mode is unacceptable. I know the developers were mostly concerned with gameplay, but the problems of dynasty mode just shouldn't be there. These are just my experiences but I bet others have had some of the same gripes with the game.

I agree on every count and I think most other Dynasty enthusiasts would say the same thing. Hopefully, Dynasty Mode will see some improvements in NBA Elite 11 and the very first Q&A that Gamespot conducted did mention that work had been done on game modes as well as the new controls and physics, so fingers crossed.

I don't think this has happened to me. I acquired Rip Hamilton in a T-Wolves dynasty who had a 74 overall, and the next season went up to 76 overall. Quite a bit of my players have progressed in some of my dynasties.

The stats are awful. 90-53 scores are unacceptable, but also Tim Duncan averaging 14 ppg isn't acceptable either.

I usually edit the rookies' ratings, to match whatever height they are, position, draft number etc.
4: CPU trading is awful. In two of my dynasties, LeBron (96 ovr) was traded for Danny Granger (84 ovr) and Tim Duncan (89) was traded for Kevin Durant (90) and Russell Westbrook (83). These trades make no sense whatsoever.

If you think a trade is horrible, enable the Modify CPU Rosters option in Dynasty Settings so you can undo the trade yourself.
5: Playoff upsets happen way to much

I haven't played enough playoffs to experience this, but with a messed up sim engine, I believe you.

Overall, there are ways around some dynasty problems, except for the fact that the sim engine is just awful. I agree with you that Dynasty has room for improvement, and let's hope it improves for Elite 11. :)

You shouldn't have to do that though. You also forfeit any Dynasty Points you earn if you turn that setting on. It's good that there are a few viable workarounds but at the end of the day, Dynasty Mode is in rough shape at the moment.

Well to be honest, Dynasty points aren't really my biggest concern, I'd much rather keep things realistic. :)

They're not my ideal way of handling things either, but they're the only way to develop your staff.

In a lot of topics ive been reading were hoping for Elite 11 to solve this solve that, don't we really say that for every game every year? Lot of times they don't fix it, but I think the whole Dynasty Mode needs to totally be re-done every part of it.

Elite better live up to this hype like Stephen Strasburg did in his first start for the Nationals, because I think it is getting national attention like that, for a video game of course. If it doesn't this could be one of the most dissapointing games ever.

There are some longstanding items on the Wishlist, definitely. I think the pressure is on and they're really looking to invigorate the product though, one of the reasons they've gone with the re-branding to NBA Elite; ideally, a new name for a new era. We shall see, there's a lot of details set to come out in the coming weeks.

I know right. The Pacers keep going to the semi finals everytime I play. And the Knicks to. And these aren't 2011 rosters either.

Balance is the key word here. There should be some upsets from time to time, but not too many and not too often. Big names should be traded and change teams, but not too frequently and even then not without logical reason.

is it not logical to presume that as they are marketing elite as a different game to live, that they will have started over from scratch on the dynasty mode? It might not even be called dynasty mode anymore, just a thought

It's possible, there's only so much that can be done within one production cycle. If they've rebuilt it and it's an improvement on its predecessor then fantastic. Perhaps it will be re-branded as well, so long as it's the experience we want they can call it whatever they like. ;)
