NBA 2k9 Sliders thread

Talk about NBA 2K9 here, as well as all previous games in the NBA 2K series.

I was a little annoyed that I could not really attack the basket due to some tight defense from the CPU. I found that lowering the CPU's "on ball defense", but mainly "contested shots" settings really helped making the whole thing more realistic. My players feel like they have more inertia and body mass, and I'm even discovering new offensive moves that I hadn't seen before that.

Hey guys, I just noticed that the CPU is taking a lot more mid-range jumpers since I've lowered my User On-ball Defense to 40. I think the logic behind this is because when it was higher than 40, the user's defenders would usually play tighter defense on the CPU, but since it is now at 40, there is more space between the CPU ball handler and the user defender which allows the CPU to shoot more mid-range shots with the new found space it has.

Also keep in mind that when you lower the User On-ball Defense, there's a greater chance the CPU's shots will go in, so therefore you must lower the Offense Sliders for the CPU to compensate this.

How can I increase user offensive Rebounds? I put the slider to 100 and I've still get continuously only 1 or 2 offensive rebounds throughout the game. Nevertheless, user defensive Rebounds are quite enough.

It's pretty tough. I only get a good amount of offensive rebounds when I really go after them, which of couse leaves me vulnerable to fast rbeaks. Turning the crash boards coaching slider up in-game should help a little bit.

I like the new sliders, but there's too many fouls to both USER and CPU
every time I try to steal I get a call.. what you guys recommend to make the foul calling more realistic?

By the way I notice that, the CPU attack to much the basket, they don't try to go for mid range or 3 point shoots, even when they free, they preffer to attack the basket and not go for an open a 3.

I have improved the gameplay with Playmakers sliders, modified them a bit, but now I have got another problem. As the def awareness, help defence and on ball D are so high, I don't have any space to get a jumpshot. When I play pick n roll, I get to the paint... When I penetrate and help defence comes, I pass to my open center and he scores... So all my points come in the paint. Only shots I can take outside the paint are with my back to the basket, all other midrange jumpers and 3pters are way contested or even blocked. For example when I play with the Knicks or Suns, it is sick when I am not able to shoot threes... The other stats are all fine so it would be perfect when this could be fixed.

You can use the pick and roll to create space for a jumpshot with the ballhanlder, instead of passing to the roll man. The best way I create jumpers is by getting deep inside. The help defense collapses and I find whoever is open. It's usually a big man around the freethrow line, or a perimeter player beyond the arc. A simple way to create a jumpshot is to call the "come off screen" quick play for one of your better midrange shooters. Use lead passing to create a bit more room once they are just past the screen and as soon as they catch the ball pull up.

Another strategy is to pound it in to one bigman in the beginning of the game, and get him the majority of points. As long as you are successful in the post, they will start to bring the double team, and you can kick it ou for the open J.

You can also choose to use an offball player and attempt to create the space yourself. You can do this by bringing up icon passing, holding the backdown/sizeup button and pressing the button of the player you want to control. Once your offball player is selected, use a quick screen, run your defender into it and press the pass button when you are open to call for the ball.

Thanks, but I was thinking more of sliders because I need the CPU to do the same. They have almost stopped taking J's aswell... and another bizarre thing is, that centers have started to dominate. For example Bynum, who isn't much of a scorer, now is the main guy in Lakers' offence despite the fact they have Kobe. The same is with Cavaliers, Ilgauskas plays the role of Lebron and Lebron doesn't stand out at all. There is no slider which directly could affect it ? I have tried to make things better, but by fixing one thing, other goes broke.... it's frustrating

Well, you can try turning those defensive sliders down to get more open jumpers. If they are too easy after that, then you can lower the shooting sliders to compensate. If you are getting those quick passes to the paint, I don't know what to tell you.

NBA 2K9 juza HOF sliders + coach profiles v1.0

Postby DH12 on Wed Dec 24, 2008 7:48 pm

i produce these set of sliders in conjunction with the related coach profiles. i tried them on a base of 30 matches and the stats are in line with nba-rating ones.the gameplay is awesome ahd i have great fun with them. i think i reduce drastically main problems of the original sliders like too much PIP, cpu cheesing with laserbackdoors, a huge amount of asts, cpu short clock usage and easy scoring in the paint and other many issues. besides, i have to point out that if you play good defense, move the ball around offensively, use correctly your double team your efforts will be rewarded. hope you will enjoy it.

i upload the pc version for those who want to install it directly:

Hey I have a question does anybody know which sliders controls how often or how effective the CPU is in attempting to steal the ball when your making moves in the post, you know that move where you spin or power dribble around your defender and they some how pick/steal the ball and you lose the ball and 90% of the time the CPU picks it up and scores on an easy fastbreak. I don't want to take it out completely, but it happens WAY too often for me like 85 % of the time the defender manages to pick it loose, even when the defender is someone horrible liek kris humphries. And does anybody know why the CPU lays the ball in more often than dunking when on a fastbreak.

wade_03, it's probably ballhandling for the user team and stealing for the cpu team as on the post issue. The dunk issue is either the finish strong inside tendency or the dunks in traffic slider.

It could also be on-ball defense, but remember if you lower that, it will be easier to take your man off the dribble and make shots in his face. Most sliders in 2k9 have a double meaning, and everytime we change one, it changes the balance of the game.

If you want more space between the ball handler and the defender, you will have to edit each team's Defensive Pressure in the Coach Profile screen. Try lowering every team's Defensive Pressure by -35 if you are using Nogster's team/player sliders and/or make sure the sliders are in the low 20s or 10s.

I've noticed that the game plays very differently with the Official NBA 2K9 Patch now, and I will have to re-adjust my gameplay sliders to accommodate the changes.

I got the game not too long ago, and needless to say, it took me a while to get use to it. Mind you, I don't play it much, mostly a quick game or two. I downloaded DH12's sliders thing and are currently using that. I use a Logitech Dual Action Gamepad to play.

I like to say right now, that I have never won a game yet  .

What's really pissing me off is that no matter how large my lead is, starting as early as mid 2nd quarter, or the third quarter, the CPU will start randomly hitting the most ridiculous shots. Playing against the 76ers, they hit countless triples with a hand (or two) in their face, close to the end of the shotclock. For no apparent reason, I start missing many open jumpshots in a row. Cutting players suddenly start missing many open layups. In terms of rebounding, my possessions are "one and done" while the CPU grabs countless rebounds at both ends. No I'm not just randomly jumping at the ball. I have like 3 of my players in position for the rebound, and the opposition only has one guy (who hass been boxed out) and they somehow manage to get the offensive board. Are there any suggestions to fix these things?
