and what happened with all the FSS?

I hate them. So I only gave them to players who met quite high rating standards. The best players can still abuse everyone else, they don't need an extra bonus to do that.

lol okay thats agreeable, but i don't know where you got the idea that carter and t-mac are better scorers than kobe and AI, but either way all though the ratings seem weird, in-game the players seem to be producing like their real life counterparts, (LeBron dominated 40 points, 7 boards, 7 dimes, I was the Raps who look good with ONeal and Bosh as the pillars, playing them like Duncan & Robinson), more so than the other rosters out there, so its all right so far. after adding everything else like the rookies and updated stuff for dynasty it should be real good.

As noted above, I did the superstar settings by using rating thresholds like EA does, but I set them much higher. I hadn't looked at who was really getting them other than Dwight Howard getting about sixty of them. Once I noticed who wound up with them, I decided to re-evaluate the method. I am now going to base it upon statistics. At least the scorer ones, the defensive and playmaker ones don't look too horrible. Maybe a few tweaks on those. I don't want a ton of superstars, just 10-15 max for each one.
but either way all though the ratings seem weird, in-game the players seem to be producing like their real life counterparts

Again, these are the overall ratings. They don't have any effect ingame (aside from a minor one on auto-sub choices) and if you start a dynasty will be replaced with game-calculated ones. I set my own overall ratings because I like to and I edit ratings outside of the game, and also because everyone frets about overall ratings instead of looking at the individual ones that decide how the game actually plays. (Look at any of Andrew's roster threads where people go "LUKE WALTON IS A 74, HE SHOULD REALLY BE A 73, FIX IT FIX IT FIX IT!!!")

And you should've put Moon on LeBron instead of letting him abuse Kapono. Tsk-tsk.

overall ratings (which are meaningless)
(Y)

I agree. If you're looking for someone to shoot 3s you look at his 3pt shooting rating, a good big man, you look at his rebounding ratings and so on...

Yea thats what I meant, although the overalls are weird it seems the individual ratings are proper, so in game thigns look good.
And as a matter of fact I did use Moon to guard LeBron 90% of the time.

It is too bad though, that this can never be a good simulation roster, with the (meaningless) overall ratings being so varied. Even if statistically he deserves it, Brendan Haywood making an all-star game is unrealistic.

But for any of the other modes, it works very well. Good job. (Y)

Brendan Haywood making an all-star game is unrealistic.

Jamaal Magloire made it not too long ago.

Does he make the all-star team in Season? I've never had him make any All-NBA Teams. I don't bother with All-Star Weekend. Howard always makes it. And who's the better center in the East? Bogut? Ilgauskas?
this can never be a good simulation roster

I've run over a hundred simmed seasons and see little out of place. Boston, Houston, New Orleans, San Antonio, etc. these are the teams I have top the standings and make the Finals usually. The sim stats look fine (especially after considering the sim engines quirks), etc.
so varied

Eh? All players should be rated the same?

Updates
I've created the seven rookies mentioned above. Forgot that the rookie team is only in Rookie Challenge or "NBA Live on Crack" mode. Will probably just put them on their teams and dump all the free agents because of this. Also messed with altering the superstars. Have mostly 10-15 for each, including some overlap, but that still seems like too many.

FSS doesn't really matter. We are most likely going to get rid of FSS and have the animations be performed contextually. Notice the ignorance of the kids.

Updates
Spent a few minutes on the roster today. Moved the rookies onto their teams and dumped all the free agents. Also updated the salaries. Did a dynasty with the Wolves for about six seasons, with no crashes. Did notice the Wolves didn't have their birthdates rolled back (incredible considering I didn't know that when I picked them, I just wanted to build around Jefferson and Love) so that was fixed.

I may add a couple more rookies or missing players before next beta. Whatever I get around to tommorrow. May try some other things.

Click.

Great work on the roster Ben. I like its ambitious accuracy.

sounds pretty good to me. i feel like installing 06 again to try it.

Mon Jul 21, 2008 1:13 pm

Going to have to put off the next beta for a couple days. I created the rookies who are signed and expected to be in a rotation (Augustin, Bayless, Ukic, etc.) along with some other missing guys. Haven't been able to rate them as I finally was able to put my computer back together and spent time on that.

I could release one if nobody minds their unrated corpses floating in the deep end of the free agent pool.

Oh, and thanks for that link Nick, that has been a great help even if I've only used it to re-rate the athletic scores of the seven guys I made earlier.

Thanks for this rosters man (Y)

Tue Jul 22, 2008 4:48 am

rosters are pretty good (Y) proud of your work

Fri Jul 25, 2008 4:27 pm

Tested and must say they are very promising. We can argue ratings all day. No two people can agree on a ratings set. I like the reward for production. It really helps teams like the Raptors and hurts teams like the Knicks. If you loose most of you games, your team shouldn't have a high rating. But good work Benji, we look forward to any updates you may have.

I have a frshly installed game, no patches.
The game crashes when I load your rosters.
Anyone experiencing same problems?

Mon Jul 28, 2008 6:18 am

Would you care to share your ratings formulas with us, benji? I'd be interested in seeing how you've derived the players' ratings from their statistics.

Mon Jul 28, 2008 6:46 am

hm, nevermind, I messed sthg up...

Thu Jul 31, 2008 3:47 pm

Hey Benji any updates?

Tue Aug 05, 2008 5:19 pm

I haven't really done much at all since the last update. Not even updating the rosters with the latest moves.

I did zip up something for JaoSming not too long ago, so I guess everyone can have it:
http://www.nbavg.org/files/nbapc002.zip
This one works in dynasty and has some rookies.

A scaling system, which is what EA originally did, for a good number of them. Formulas were only in the shooting ratings really.
