Gilbert isn't more marketable then Kobe, Wade or Duncan.
Timmy? He's a great player and all, a winner, you name it, but how the hell do you market fundamentals? I mean, he's not exactly a flashy player like the other guys mentioned.

Gilbert's popularity is off the charts right now. I'll definitley give you Wade, but I think right now Gilbert's marketability (that word is becoming overused) is even with Kobe. Definitley higher then Duncan, but Tim plays in a very small market in San Antonio as well.

I think he's pretty much already there. LeBron is already in the class with Peyton Manning and Tiger Woods.

Well I didn't feel the need to bring up WHY he is marketable
Wade is not marketable because of the Wade fanboys?

Wow. Skip Bayless just might be the most retarted analyst of all time.
He just said the Cavs would be idiotic to not trade LeBron for Kobe, and he guaranteed that Danny Ferry would do that deal. He also tried to say that LeBron has already burned too many bridges to ever play in Cleveland again by wearing the Yankees hat at the Indians/Yankees playoff game.

with the whole oden thing and how thats going, my guess is lebron is the most valuable player in the game today.
however, i still dont think that kobe can be traded for any value, either, but lebron is a better player to build around right now, given that he is still young while kobe is getting a little older.

i am kinda worried about the thought of the lakers tradeing kobe. i want him to stay in LA. i consider him one of the more dangerous players, hell he is probably the most dangerous player in the nba. i dont want someone like that on a team that can beat my celtics

You don't see people following wade though because of his skin colour.

I wouldn't put Lebron or Peyton Manning in same class as Tiger Woods....I am talking internationally here....but closest other international sportsperson to Tiger Woods would probably be guys like Roger Federer, David Beckham, Ronaldinho....Lebron is definitely getting there, but I'd say quite a lot of non-basketball followers over here probably would not even know who he is....as for Peyton Manning, American Football isn't as popular worldwide as basketball, so he's not in the same class as any of the others I mentioned....internationally that is....

i also would not put lebron up there with tiger, i would have put him on the manning level til last seasons disaster where the colts won the superbowl, now he is a step above lebron if you ask me. that should fix itself though when the pats stomp the shit out of the colts this year on thier way to going 16-0

Let's remember this quote when Joe Addai is running all over your aging linebackers and Bob Sanders is taking Lawrence Maroney out of commision.

if u really wana know if a player is well marketed, ask someone who doesnt know much about sports if they know any well known athletes. everyone knows tiger, peyton, kobe. given that these 3 have been around the media for more than a decade lebron is getting there as much of his generation and younger will undoubtley relate basketball to LBJ. like THE X said, u gotta have someone who doesnt knw anything about bball know who lebron is

There should be no reason why Kwame Cook & Mihm should be getting any playing time with Turiaf healthy.

I really hope that Kobe is traded. With the great shakeup in Boston, I'd love to see the Lakers get a similar facelift. I want Boston vs. Los Angeles to be exciting again.

I will probably get flamed for this but it's not Yao's skin colour. It's his nationality. He's Chinese so Chinese people support him. But by no means does that make them fans either. I've been to China and most poeple like guys like AI, TMac, LeBron before they say they like Yao.
I think why Yao is marketable is because he is a unique player. Being Chinese is a part of it and it gives fans someone to cheer for on the level of partriotism... that's about it.
Mon Oct 22, 2007 2:21 pm
Speaking of international players...Yao's the only chinese who's successful, Could anyone give me any list of other international players who is successful in their NBA career?

uhhh Dirk, Vlade, Drazen, Kukoc, Ginobili, TP, etc. etc.

I've been high on Al Thornton for awhile now. He's a very hard guy to guard, his scoring will translate well to the NBA level. I could see him averaging double figures this year.

Since the Jason Kidd - Bynum trade that never happened I have been wondering how good Bynum will eventually get.
What do you guys think? Will he be an all-star? Who will he compare to when/if he reaches his potential?
Tue Oct 23, 2007 11:12 pm
I think Bynum will be a solid centre in the league; I don't really feel that he's going to be the all-star that everyone believes that he'll become especially if he's playing with Kobe. I do expect him to average a double double though.
