I got one hell of an issue you guys, its been going on all this semester but only now has it really gotten out of hand.

UMass has new on campus apartments and me, my girlfriend, my old roommate and my best friend tried to be roommates (there is a max of 4 people in 1 apartment) What ended up happening was my, my roommate, and my gf got into the apartment but my friend did not. He still got into the apartments but was in a different building. After meeting our ROTC roommate for the first time and getting his name he seemed pretty cool. He said he didnt drink or smoke, kind of a health nut who likes to keep things kinda quiet and mellow. yea.....

So I was moving my friend into the other apartment and I started to talk to his roommates and I told them how he was supposed to stay with us but for some reason we got stuck with this 4th guy. What these girls said was this random ROTC guy started stalking them, calling them at all hours of the night and trying to get them to go on dates with him. It ended up that this guy was going to be their new roommate so they complained and it got blocked. I dont know for sure if this mystery guy is my current roommate but they were both from Tulsa, OK, in ROTC, and had a Mac laptop.

2 weeks into the semester things were ok, he said he was broke so he couldn't pitch in for the living room rug, a TV, plates, cups, ect ect. Things that all apartments need. Then one Saturday night he brings people back and they started drinking. Now I dont drink, my gf doesnt anymore, and my other roommate was gone for the night (hes the only one who is 21, this ROTC guy is 18 at the time and just barely turned 19) It is a Saturday night at UMass of all places so we just dealt with the noise and tried to get a good night sleep for work in the morning (8am). When I got up there were empties trashed all over the apartment, the TV was left on and most importantly the big picture window that security walks by every hour was wide open and had been all night. My gf has financial aid and he had gotten busted last night she would have lost her college funding. Knowing that I closed the window and left a note asking for him to pick up the empties.

After work I noticed something on the ceiling but my gf called me into her room to show me something. He had posted on Facebook and on his personal online blog all about what happened. He said on the blog that he protested the note, and stuck it on the ceiling. and followed that by saying "VIVA LA REVELUTION!" ...wierdo. So I went in to talk to him and just kinda say thanks for picking up (cause he did take care of the trash) and just kinda say if your going to drink close the window. Then i asked "I thought you said you didn't drink" To which he say "I knew this was going to be a big fucking deal with you. blah blah blah bitch bitch bitch" I just walked away and didn't even bother with him.

The next day he had another blog up about me and my gf. Calling us "squares" and "lame" for "playing video games sober" I got a good laugh about it but then the friends started. He started bringing people back to the apartment and that is when the compulsive lying began. When they first walked into the apartment first thing he would do is apologize for his "lame roommates" and for the fact that we eat in the apartment all the time so it smells like food. .....riiiiight. Then he would go on to tell him that he was 24 (not 19) and that he already served his time in Iraq and was taking a leave for college. That is BS as well, we have an actual friend who is in ROTC who knows this guy and how he is the worst in the group. He's been busted numerous times for lying to officers, surprise.

But w/e works for him, by this time it was a good 2 months after the "incident" and neither me or my gf had talked to him at all since it. Every person he would invite into our apartment he would tell them the same things right off the bat and lie. One thing that I thought was funny was he was on the phone with someone and said that he was a grad student and they should come over to hang out. He did this as he was hiding his Algebra books and Introductory Literacy books. Im sorry but if you dont know algebra or know what a thesis is, you dont belong in college.


Now for the new shit. It has been the entire semester pretty much and we just dont talk to this kid. He did manage to befriend my old roommate but that is just annoying. Whenever me and my roommate play our guitars together he would immediately try to drag him away for a beer run or something to that nature. Kinda reminds me of a little 3 year old who isn't getting enough attention and just craves it.

But since he is in ROTC he has physical training every Monday Wednesday Friday at 6-7. This past week everytime he walked past our room he would clap his hands while we were sleeping. And do these random yells like "woot!" and other weird fucking noises. Needless to say we were fed up with this shit so yesterday morning when we got up at 7am because we were now used to getting up that early because of him, we decided to make breakfast in the apartment. At around 9am he kinda stumbles out of his room, groans. Mutters something, goes to the bathroom, continues to mutter and goes back to sleep. After breakfast my gf made cookies (im not going to complain) and when she was making them he came out again, groaned, muttered, stood in his doorway staring at my gf making the cookies and finally went back into his room once I entered the kitchen. I gotta say, we weren't being extra loud, but we weren't trying to be quiet for this kids sake. Sweet Revenge. but.....

Last night me and my gf went to bed around 1030 or so. Right after I entered the room he turned up his music and the bass. (he's on the other side of one of the walls so we can hear the music well and the bass shakes the room) It is not midnight so technically we can't do anything because quiet hours are not in affect. But once midnight rolls around he turned up his Trance/Techno shit even louder. I had enough so I went out to find the RA. Nowhere to be found so I went up to the security desk and asked to make a noise complaint. They directed me to the main North Office. Well they were closed but when I got back the on duty RA was standing in my hallway. They said they would make a round of the building and come to my room last to make it sound like I didn't do anything.

When they arrived and knocked on the door, I got up and let them in. They actually did a good job acting and said that we had a noise complaint for this apartment, whoever has the music on needs to turn it down. He didn't leave his room so they knocked on his door till he opened and then he finally listened and turned it down. Could it be victory #2! no.

I get back into bed and about 5 minutes after the RA leaves he started banging on his desk (which is against our wall). Then he left his room clapping, and exited the apartment clapping as well. (oh and before I forget, he props the main door of the apartment open so anyone can walk in, hes been doing that all semester) After the door closed he banged on it a little bit and finally left. I didn't feel safe at all so I asked by gf if she could get up so we can drive to my house and stay there for the night. By the time she got up he was back. He banged around his room a little big and moved his bed against the floor. Then he went to the bathroom and made noise in there...then the scary part. He attempted to enter my room (which was locked). I know this because I heard him try to turn the knob then he hit the door. Then after that he walked up to the room that me and my gf sleep in and tried to open that door as well. Thank god I locked it. He chuckled to himself and clapped some more and finally left.....but not after he turned his music back on.

Finally we got to sleep, but at 4am this morning he came back and continued to make noise. He slammed doors, turned his music up and moved more furniture in his room. I got up at 9am and my gf just barely got up and we haven't really made any noise at all this morning. We are leaving for my house later but still I really dont feel safe living with this kid anymore. I know he is under stress and his friends have been finding out lately that he has been lying about a lot of things. Finals start this week as well and I know he hasnt been doing well in his classes.

I can't lie, I really think he may do something violent or costly to get back at us. I have my computer, laptop, 360, guitar and TV all in my room which I will be locking for now on. Really all I'd have to do to get him out of the school is e-mail his ROTC people with his facebook and blog pictures of him drinking and he might get kicked out. But really I don't even want to take that chance. I dunno i really did need to get this out of my system but I don't know how to approach this situation now. Things escalated pretty badly last night and I dont know if I should just continue reporting him when I can, or if I should go into the living room and start playing Guitar Hero or something really loudly to give him a taste of his own medicine.

Sounds like a real fuckwit. I don't wanna scare you but I hope this guy doesn't pull some school shooting type shit anytime soon. I personally hate ratting people out or "telling", but if I was you I would probably do it. Maybe wait a few days and see if he gets really bad, giving you no choice.

Seeing that the RA was kind enough to act like you didn't ask for them, is there anyway you get can get him kicked out, not only anonymously, but have someone take responsibility? Like have the school itself kick him out for something but never mention anything about anyone reporting something?

I just worry that this guy will get angry if he gets kicked out and come back to you.

I dunno what to really do. Im going to talk to my RA today. But my girlfriend is going to stay here today while i go home for mothers day. Hopefully nothign will happen but she has been through so much shit in her life I am sure in her that she will be able to take care of anything if he tries something or at the very least call out for help.

What is going to be really interesting is when my roommate (the one ive had all year and who im friends with) gets back to the apartment. He's been home since Thursday but I left him some IMs yesterday about what was going on.


BTW, he got up at 11 and started making a lot of noise again. He crumbled up the rug we have inside the main door and closed my door in my room while I was in here. He went to lunch but not before turning on his music, and leaving it on again......I am getting really sick of this shit.

goddamn, I know how it is to have a bad roommate. i had to share a room with one last year. although he wasn't as bad as yours, he had a bitchy gf that was over all the time. you can imagine how that is.

my first instinct would be to report his ass but then again, i would be worried about what he would do if he got kicked out because it's obviouly you & your gf that ratted him out.

what I did about my roommate was to avoid contact with him as much as possible (despite living in the same room) by getting involved on campus or a job or extracirricular activities. I just waited out the rest of the year and counted my blessings when he moved out (without paying the last month of rent of course )

Who's the next person up on the list above the RA? Having been a RA, if someone told me this information I would just immediately forward it onto the Senior RA or Deputy College Head or College Head straight away. So you might as well cut out the middle man. If you emphasise how uncomfortable you feel, and the fact he is acting with no regards to your interests and is very threatening, they will have to do something.

Other than that, just try to put up with it as best you can. I would definitely tell somebody A.S.A.P to get it resolved, or at least make them very aware of the situation. If you can last out the period, then that may be best.

Just be wary though. I had people kicked off my floor for drug possession, who thought I dobbed them in. I didn't, which they eventually found out, but there big fuck off Maori friend has tried to king hit me several times, not to mention give me several death threats. Basically the moral of the story is, be as careful as possible and try not to fall into a similar situation.

Damn Jao. I'd say at this point an RA is pointless (being an RA myself). Like Ty said, go and talk to your ARD or RD (actually, do the North apartments have them even?) The higher authorities have the power to either put him on probation, kick him out, or transfer him. But I guess its kind of hard to do this shit without him knowing. He seemed like a nice fellow when I met him though...a little odd, but not the crazy type.
