Team by Team Ratings - Orlando Magic

Hi all.

I'm trying to gather information from the community about the Orlando Magic.

I also encourage each one of you to do the same for every NBA team, that way we will be able to discuss each team more particularly.

Any feedback (good or bad) is much appreciated.

Suggestions about Dwight Howard :
He's definitely not a star inside shooter : he was in Jimmy's roster.
But given he has an average of 53% FG career-wise & 56% this season, I find his 60 FG rating underrated.

Suggestions about Grant Hill :
He's not a 3PT man but his 21 3PT rating in NBA Live 07 is really low, preventing him from knocking down 3pters from time to time, which he's able to do in real life (in 2000, he shot 98 of them & made 34, good for 34,7%!).

Suggestions about Jameer Nelson :
Jameer is clearly underrated regarding his FG rating in Live 07 : he's given a 66 FG rating & 79 3PT rating BUT last season he was able to connect on 48.3% of his shot from the field (he's only 6'0'' !).
I'm saying 66 is clearly too low & we should give him 72.

His BLK (block) rating is underrated, given he is the #7 in the NBA in blocks per 48 minutes (3.74) this season.
Last year, following his trade from DET to ORL, he averaged 2.1 BLK in 20 mins ! He is as good a blocker as Dwight Howard and his rating should be increased.

Suggestions about Carlos Arroyo :
His FG & 3PT ratings are a bit low, even though I admit the fact that he's a inconsistent. But this year at the World Basket Championship, he was the best player for Puerto Rico, setting teammates & providing the scoring.
Hence, his passing rating & dribbling should also be increased.

He's only 2-11 this year in 37 games so I'd say a 21 3pt rating is pretty accurate...

True but the point is in his previous years he never made & attempted a lot of 3s (except for the '99 - '00 season, when he was at his peak). He only took a shot when open, here & there.

In Jimmy's roster, he had like 40 or 42 which I think prevents him from becoming a threat @ the 3pt line BUT enables him to knock down a 3 when open, from time to time.

Suggestions about Dwight Howard :

I guess it could come up a little, but his high field goal percentage is due to his dominant post player rather than having an excellent jumpshot.

He also averaged 20 and 9 earlier in his career but that doesn't mean I should raise his ratings accordingly. A rating in the 40s isn't appropriate but it could come up a bit from 21.

He's actually averaging fewer blocks per game this year in slightly increased playing time. However, I will take another look at his block rating.

The reason why I'm asking all these questions is simple : I want to get advice from other person, because the friend who I play with thinks I'm biased.

This is a normal reaction & I wanted to get a point of view from outside.

Correct me if Im wrong but isnt fg rating a measure of a players jump shot ability? Or is there a seperate rating for range. Whats shaqs fg rating?

I love Grant Hill as much as the next guy but its not 1999 anymore and hes not a 3pt shooter. The fact that his highest mark has only been 34% is not something to brag about, not when youve had 8 seasons under 30%.

I wouldve agreed with you at the start of the season but his shooting numbers have taken a hit compared to last year. He was hitting on 41% but down to a still respectable 36%.

Agreed the only thing Darko has going for him is his defense and shotblocking. One of the better shotblockers in the league a fact that would be more obvious if he were to play more minutes. Whats his current rating.

They should be, hes shooting 27% this year. Hes one of the most dissapointing reserves in the league. He was on fire when he first came to Orlando. He had a very impressive e.fg% of 49% on Jumpshots, down to 41% this year. Hes also converting a lower% of his inside shots. Last year 25% of his fg/a came on inside shots and was scoring on 60% of his attempts. This year its dropped to 19% in attempts and 43% in accuracy. Hes also having those attempts slammed back in his face as his blocked shot rate has jumped from 9% to 27%.

His turnover ratio has jumped while his assist ratio has decreased. If you were looking for a year to help raise Arroyo's ratings you chose the wrong one.

anyways, yeah fg i think is mid-range shooting, while inside scoring is what dwight is good at.

there are alot more players that are under-rated. like anthony parker of the raptors. his fg is rated 65 but yet he is a great consistent midrange shooter. i would give it around 80. his 3 point shooting was bad at the start of the season but it has now improved to consistent numbers. i'd give a 73 for his 3point. and for free throw midway through the season he was i think 91% from ft line. he should be like a 81 ft. dunk he should be around 70s, as we have seen him posterize players and do mj leaner dunks

RapsPlayoffs, MLG33 is a friend of mine, he was just playin' jokes on me being a newbie, no worries. But I don't think A. Parker deserves an 80 rating, maybe 75 ...

Anthony Parker is a guy that really needs to be upped. He should be in the 75+ range. He is a good shooter (mid+long range), decent rebounder, superior defender, good passer, athletic. He is a guy with all around game. Consideration for outside stopper should be takin into consideration. His FG+3FG should be atleast 80, def.awar also be around 80-85. Stealing around 70, dunking around 65. These are just suggestions, I hope you look over it cause he is a lot better than he is in the game.

Jose Calderon is another. He is arguably the best backup pg in the NBA and his rating is 64 I believe. His FG should be higher as he is a pretty good mid range shooter. He is a guy that drives a lot, gets assists and doesn't turn the ball over much. Off.aware should be around 75-80 imo. He is athletic and could also be a starter. He should be around 70.

Andrea Bargnani's offensive skills should also be looked at. He's a better shooter than 67/70, as well as his dunking, off.aware, speed, quickness, hardiness could all use a realistic boost.

I've already updated Anthony Parker's ratings. Please note I do not boost ratings so that the overall looks better.

I dont agree with raising ratings for the sake of an overall. When I say a player should be around that range it's just a suggestion of skill range, and not what the exact overall should be. I hope thats understandable.

Absolutely, I just wasn't sure if you were familiar with my stance on boosting overall ratings.

I just downloaded the 1.03 and I like what you've done with Parker, but his def.aware, stealing and strength all need to be raised. The reason he is so valuable to the Raptors is because of his lockdown defense.

The only other thing about the Raptors would be that Rasho's def.aware and strength are a bit low as well. But other than that it looked good. Solid work bro.
