Cap room is how much money each team can spend on players for a particular season.

If you have limited cap room then it will be hard to get say a Kevin Garnett who is on huge money.

If you are trading 'over' the cap. Then the money for players from each team needs to be very close. I.E Player X has a salary of $5 million and then team you trade with has two players you want , then their salary must be very close to $5 million as well we combined.

ty for responding but when i propose trade regardless of how good the player is, its the same cap room for that team

It doesn't matter how good the player you're offering may be. There's a set salary cap and if a team's total salaries exceed that amount then they're over the cap which can complicate any deals you wish to make.

The salary money for the players you're trading should be similar if both teams are close to being over the cap. If you have 2 million then the only way a trade will work is if the total payments from your trade puts you just at break even or just over the cap . So the player you trade away must be the same as the player coming in. So hopefully you don't really want a great player because 2 million isn't much, unless you're willing to give up someone good, and expensive for them.

Is the message you're getting 'salary cap' related? I'm presuming it is, if not, you have to look at how much is in the green bars for 'trade interest' because that makes a hell of a difference. Miami has Wade so let's say you're trying to trade them a SG for Shaq then they won't really be interested, so check the green bars and make sure what you're sending is similar to what you're getting. Make sure they have roster space if you're sending more than one player for a single player as well.

so if i have cap room of 9.86 mil then i have to trade with a team with around -9.86 mil for trade to be possible?

or if i have -24 mil cap room wut does the cap room of other team have to be for trade to be possible?

When one or both teams are over the cap, the total salaries being traded by one team cannot be more than 120% of the total salaries coming the other way. For example...

If you want to trade two players whose salary adds up to $5 million and either you or the CPU team is over the cap (or you both are), the players you receive must have salaries that add up to no greater than $6 million (1.2 x 5,000,000 or 120% of $5,000,000) and no less than $4.16 million (5,000,000 / 1.2). The easiest method therefore is to make sure the total salaries for the players being traded from each team are as close as possible.

You can trade with any team despite their cap room as long as you follow that rule. Your cap room doesn't need to balance out with theirs or anything like that.
