gamepad wont work

after ive downloaded the software for my controller wut do i do to make it useable in the game it still wont work? its an xbox 360 adapted game pad

ok so i did that and it helped and i calibrated it now but it doesnt work in the game still? when ur selecting which team u want to be it shows the icon of a controller and a keyboard which indicates that it knows i have a controller but when i use it in the game none of the buttons do anything?
