Crash To Desktop Problem

Postby gamason on Tue Nov 21, 2006 12:30 am

I know this is an old topic which has been talked about since the game came out...but the reason I am starting a new thread is to gauge how many people STILL have this problem.

Please only post here to say that you are still experiencing this problem, or if you did have this problem but no longer do (and if that is the case, please share your wisdom). Sorry to those who don't like to see so many new threads (this is the first one I have ever started). But, this is a major issue for those who have it, and I want to see how many of us there are...

Im still having that crash to desktop problem. Did a fresh install and applied the patch tried a season game and on exit i got the crash bug. Tired it several times with the sme result. Seems this is something EA will not fix. Hope someone can figure out a work around for this bug.

This happens on me too..... :( :(

Although this is an old topic, I think it is an issue that still exists....

I tried uninstall the game, uninstall Windows, format hard drive....etc...whatever I can do to give a fresh new environment to install...but still no luck at all...

Some people in this forum relates this to illegal copy of the game, but does this make sense?

Hope someone can help those of us still experiencing this problem..thanks in advance... :D

EDIT: King_Beef, this doesn't work for me, thanks anyway!

I have figured out the problem on my machine. I too tried all of the things that were mention above and still failed. The solution, at least for my system, was to disable CTHELPER.exe and CTXFIHLP.exe in msconfig. Apparently there is a conflict between these two Creative driver services and NBALive 2007 causing the game to crash at the Quit Game point. Please try this out and get back to me and let me know what happends. Thanks,Hope i helped.

alwayz0npoint, I have been using SB Audigy 2 without CTHELPER.exe and CTXFIHLP.exe enabled and only with CTSysVol.exe left running. So it seems that this doesn't solve my problem.

Thanks alwayz0npoint!

yep i have had it happen to me as well in 3 of the 4 games i have played. However on 2 of these, nba live didn't totally crash and was just minimised in the task bar and i was able to get back in. On the 1 occasion it just crashed totally.

I have not put a lot of effort into trouble shooting the cause, have enough dramas in my working life to feel I need to spend time on this dud of a game.

CTHELPER.exe and CTXFIHLP.exe not running on my PC

After investigating the problrm, I found that this issue may relate to the game itself and not computer configuration.

I have installed other version of Live 07 in different languages. Since the files are exactly the same for all of these versions except the nbalive07.exe and respective locolized official patches, other languages of Live 07 run fine on the my computer.

EDIT: I suggest, refund your game if EA support doesn't help or try to buy and install different language versions on your computer.

Hope you all enjoy

If it's really those 2 x-fi files that are 'killing' the app, WHY does it do that? EA needs to find out...but thanks for the heads up. I know there's 'something' killing the game which is running on our system, but we can't play the game clean everytime...

It seems that playing at a lower resolution will solve the problem, this worked for me.

Instead of playing at 1280x1024, the game will not crash when I played several times at 640x480.

So if anybody experience this problem, you may want to try to do this. Hope this helps!

I am still experiencing the crash to desktop. I have the Digital download version and have patched it. I have contact Ea and they suggested a bunch of things like cerating a new admin account in XP, and then changing some video card settings, but I have not been able to get this fixed. I crash as soon as I am done the game, weather its 2 min quarters or 12 minute quarters. If I exit with 1 second left on the game its fine. But that is no good, as I am unable to save games I play, which means season and dynasty mode are useless.

Has anyone had this problem and had it resolved?

my video card is a NVIDA GE/FORCE FX 5600. I have downloaded all the latest drivers.

This is soo frustrating. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Don't believe in EA, their solution has never worked for anyone here, including me.

Even they said a new roster patch will be released in Nov, but....

I'm still having this problem also and like said in another thread I think it's for everyone that has the EA Downloader or EA Link version.

Hi guys I just registered :)
I'm very disappointed but i have the same problem too...when i finish a dinasty game and click on the END GAME option to return to the dinasty menu, the game crashes to the desktop...i've done all possible adjustments (video card, sound card, windows, bios  , reinstalling, scandisk, defrag ecc ) but the problem is still there...
I'm very overwrought of this...the heart of the game is unplayable!
Tonite i'm going to install the patch...anyone knows if this can fix the problem?
From the readings here it seems useless
