Does anyone have any tips for stealing the ball?
It seems like if I am guarding a guy, 4/5 times when I hit the steal button, nothing happens at all. 1 time out of 5, he kind of shakes his left hand, but nowhere near where the ball is.
Do I have to maneuver the guy to some awkward position so that the default 'swipe with the left arm' happens to line up with where the ball is? If I do that, the guy usually just drives past me.
Maybe if I crank up the user steal ability it will work better? And then increase the reach in foul frequency to compensate?
It's kind of the same story with blocks - half the time when I hit the button, nothing happens at all - I hate the controls in this game sometimes, how unresponsive they are. Why can't I jump up to steal an inbounds pass, or to jump up and down in the face of the inbounds passer if I wanted to. Sometimes it feels like I'm playing dragon's lair in the arcade or something, I have to wait for the player to flash to tell me that this is the instant that something will actually happen if I hit jump or steal!
Seems like every jump shot is a slow double-clutch too; I hate some of these slow animations.
I feel like the last game where these things worked well, responsive controls, quick psasing, might have been live '96!! '05 was a joke with the passing broken, in '06 even running up and down the cour felt bizarre; '07 is closer but I'm on the fence as to whether it's tolerable or not.

careful, you dont want to increase reach in fouls, that'll just get you more fouls called. But yes sliders are your answer and positioning is your answer. try the right analog to pick what hand you use. It takes practice and is much harder this year than in old versions. You hve to remember: steals dont happen THAT often in the NBA so dont expect 15 spg....
With the blocks, you can put your arms up. You truly dont see many NBA players, jumping up and down in front of their players, that takes recovery time and the players usually would get burnt if they tried that kinda shit.
Every jump shot is not a slow double clutch. You need to learn to use movement and the right analog stick more...i'm not saying they're fantastic but they can be done not as slow double clutchers...

Oh god, the right analog stick...because I want to play Street Fighter II...
You're right that steals and blocks don't happen that often, I guess it's more realistic this way, but hell, let me try to go for a block if I want too...if it's a bad time, make me foul the guy, or miss the block, don't glue my guy to the ground.
