Superstar Mode in NBA Live.....

Thu Aug 10, 2006 3:05 pm

This is one General Issue i have with Nba Live 07...Even with all the added features the most notiable thing missing which needs to be stolen from Madden is the Superstar mode. Imagine Creating a player, picking the parents taking a test, going through various trainings, get drafted and having a legend give u a few words wisdom from time to time (a la Jordan or Magic with Melo, Wade n LeBron)...then performin on the court to get a sneaker deal, voted to the all-star game, doing movies, the WHOLE NINE YEARS... idk but to me this feature is more tailored for the NBA than the NFL but the Madden Crew once again stays ahead with the creativity..

P.S I still will be first in line to Cop my live 07 for the 360...Holla <>

i do agree with you there.

Don't you realize that Madden was able to expand on their game once they actually got the gameplay right? NBA live has a LONG way to go, every year there's more and more bugs that aren't taken care of. I think they'll have to start getting things right for the game to survive on next gen and then expand to other aspects. Lets hope this year's version does it right. If you want that type of game though, NBA 07 may suite your needs.

Madden got their gameplay right? I feel like I've been playing the same engine since 1995...

I'll let you in on a little secret. Madden is just as buggy as Live, when it's broken down. A lot of it is less noticable, because it's not a fluid playing game the way basketball is, so you have to look deeper into the 5-6 second plays to see the trends.

I'm an avid Madden player, and yes there are some bugs, but IMO...not nearly the quantity as in Live. For a series 10 years old you'd think they would at least get the rules right (backcourt violations, out of bounds, offensive goaltending, charges in the circle) Don't even get me started about Dynasty comparisons...I'm not a programmer, but it would seem more difficult to program 22 players on a field than 10 and make it seem fluid. Which I believe Madden has achieved with great success. Live series needs to get serious about simulation gameplay before even comparing the two as well.

I agree. We do need that in NBA Live.

100 percent agree

With what? Half the people are saying Live should include the Mode and the other half disagree...

I agree, once Live gets their gameplay right, then they should expand. But I'm pretty sure gameplay won't be right for awhile. They added momentum and X-Factor and intensity. X-Factor I can just see it being overpowering and making Robert Horry scoring 25 points in the 4th Quarter. Momentum or Intensity or w/e, I don't really think they need to show who has momentum on the screen, it should be pretty noticeable in the game. You should be able to tell who has the momentum, you shouldn't need a bar showing you. And btw, I didn't even know Madden had this superstar mode , which Madden has this?

Madden NFL 06 was the first version to have it, if I'm not mistaken.

I know this is a useless post but I totally agree with what rrenn007 stated. I still play Madden 06 for Xbox now within a month of playin NBA Live 06 I was bored. I fail to see why the only challenge I can have with the game is by changing the sliders so that the computer always has the advantage.

I don't think there'll actually be a momentum bar, will there? From the gameplay videos so far I haven't noticed any intensity/momentum meter. I could be wrong though :?

Edit:
BTW I agree a hundred percent. EA shouldn't add a superstar mode before they've worked out all the gameplay kinks and made dynasty deeper

If there is one I'm sure we can patch it out.

I still play NBA 2k6, and am still very impressed with its gameplay. I also play Madden 2005 from time to time and still think its a pretty good game, and it's still far ahead of NBA live 06

Exactly why they need to hold off adding a "superstar" mode and patch up lots of little quirks that piss you off during a game. I also believe the presentation needs a shot in the arm because everytime I play that awful rap music, I turn off my surround sound. I'm a PC user and if I have to click 100 times just to start off my game with the strategy I want, it makes me wish I had a custom profile ah la Madden/NCAA with my saved info.

The problem with the super-star mode... Well, in Madden I believe that you make a player and he's rated like 87 or something... Unless madden overalls run to 999, that's pretty frikkin high. So when you create a young stud who's got 80 overall and are playing starter minutes the mode is great and all realistic and stuff... Lots of media coverage, lots of movies to make etc. but the problems start when you make a player with 60 overall that is mostly sitting on the pine and not even getting to the court in every game. Now what would the mode entail for that player... This in my opinion would be more rewarding than starting with an instant all-star...

Gradually working your self into the rotation and making smart plays etc. Think about playing Darko Milicic while he was playing in Detroit??? You get a minute or two in every 5 games and its just drills and more drills between games. No media frenzy surrounding the player or anything... Especially no movie deals.

Could the mode hold it's own in this environment? The mode would need more depth besides this. Like NBDL... So you get to play good minutes and benefit from that experience. Maybe getting an interview or two for a hoops website or your team website. Maybe getting a girlfriend and other sort of team activities and the like.

And most of all... All events and happenings in the game should mold the players public image. If you party too often, you get that sort of reputation or if you just stick in the gym after the janitor leaves, you should get that reputation. Then when you are a star, there would be some mandatory activities, like taking part in community work and doing interviews with ESPN etc.

There should also be stuff to spend your money on... So you could live the lifestyle once you got to the big cash. So that all that money wouldn't be for nothing. Maybe you could buy stuff like luxury cars, home theaters, weight training gear etc. to your home and they would effect your happiness, physicality etc. You should be able to face disaster as well... Like your grandmom dies of old age and it would really put your happiness levels to bottom figures and it would effect your game. You should be able to sustain injuries and work on rehab. Like a good bed at home would help the rehab etc.

But again... The word for Super-star mode is choice! You must be able to choose how you react to certain situations and there must be consequences. Like hitting that game winning shot with the overall 62 guy would get you some public attention for a while so you could build on it...

And getting traded to another team could change your role significantly and getting stuck behind Kobe on the Lakers, would enable you to show your dissatisfaction for playing time or right out demand a trade... Thus maybe getting you into some hot water like Artest last winter...

The potential of the mode is endless, but it does have to be deep so that playing it with any level player won't be tidious and repetetive and boring and basically just simulating until you get to be the star...

Good ideas, maybe in Live 2020 they'll get around to it, but money doesn't buy you happiness :D

As I've said elsewhere, while I'd be somewhat interested in a single player career mode I'd much rather the features currently in the game improved to a point where something new - like Superstar Mode - is necessary. Right now, I think it would just take time away from further improvements that could be made.

^^ i agree with that.
