Here's my experience with intro videos and the crashing issue. I made a test intro from one highlight I captured from Live 06 and encoded it to VP6 with the default codec settings with a bitrate of 300. Live does not crash with it, but it is only 3 seconds long. I made an intro for MVP baseball 2005 that was 2 minutes long with a bitrate of 1500 for better quality and it crashes at the end. So I'm thinking its either the length of the video that causing the crash, or the bitrate you encode at.

How exactly do you change the bitrate? Also I wonder how the Euroleague patch people got it to work.

You change the bitrate in the codec options. When you select VP60 simple profile, on the right there is a button called configure.

Is there any way to see what is the bitrate of the original intro video so we can see if it is the bitrate or the lenght what makes the game crash? I know it's possible to make new intros not crash since the Euroleague patch uses a new intro video and it doesn't crash.
Anyways, can you post the preview of the Raptors intro, hammertime?
