This is an almost major issue I've had with NBA Live for the last few years.....it seems like no matter how good my PG is, how average the opposing team's PG is, and no matter how many better players there are on the opposing team, the PG is ALWAYS shooting and scoring the most. This makes games very unrealistic, and gets on my nerves, especially when I play a game and hope for a "Magic vs. Bird" "Shaq vs. Russell" or "Kobe vs Jordan" type of scenario. Whenever I play the Bulls in my all-time rosters season, Pippen and Jordan get 10-12, even though I made their primacy 99...and Kirk Heinrich or Norm van lier get 30. Same when I play Boston, Cousy gets 35 and Bird gets like 16. I will even double team the PG and high pressure them, but the computer always goes to them.

Does this happen with anybody else? I know it has to, but maybe no one else cares.
This is because EA was lazy in setting CPU default plays for each team, but PLAYMAKERS PLAYBOOK SELECTIONS gives the ultimate realistic gameplay in terms of how much the offense is run through the stars in each team...if ur lazy to set up the plays then u will continue getting owned by PG's because the offense is set to SHOOTER A and most often PG's carry the ball the most so they get to shoot the most...adjust ur playbook setting manually b4 every game and this wont be a problem no more

Anyone have Arenas up there i know hes good on D and he is annoying on offense draining 3's from all over the place.

Setting the right plays might work a little bit, but the AI is still broken. I like to play realistically so I set the plays all the time. But the scrub or mediocre PGs ALWAYS get an unrealistically high portion of the shots. Whenever I play against Miami, I have to worry about Jason Williams, and not Shaq lighting me up.

That's all I was trying to say earlier about Playmakers playbooks.

It gets the ball out of the hands of PG's and into the hands of some of the top players on every team. The only way a PG get's out of control using the playbooks when I play is because I blew my assignment defensively and idn't stop his initial penatration. Otherwise they will look to run the run the offense and get the ball to players that the play is designed for more often.

I always setup the playbooks for the CPU because it's the best way to play the game for added realism. Otherwise they will run the basic quick plays and the PG's will shoot more than anyone else.

Most annoying point guards for me:
Allen Iverson
Jason Terry
Deron Williams
Sebastian Telfair
Tyronne Lue
Chauncey Billups

I agree with you that the point guards are so good, but i have a solution,, in my dynasty these point guards can hardly score 20+ points, I run the half court trap from time to time so the PG will forced to pass the ball when he is trapped at the mid court, after passing the ball just switch to another defense you prefer,, this will help to limit the PG in handling and shooting the ball too often, hope this will help your playing defense...
and one more thing the Cpu cannot run their offensive sets properly by forcing them to pass the ball too often, and be ready and guard the key area wtih your big men they might pass the ball on that area,, just play good defense

Good point Uptempo, if u choose not to use playmaker's playbook then just forget about it.... i have played through an 82 game season and never once did any fluke PG drop more than 20pts on me..it gets annoying having to manually change playbooks for u and the CPU but thats the only way to get ultimate realism, otherwise even bum PG's can drop 40pts on ur head

Steve Blake make 25 points in a game

EA:YOU SUCK !!!!

 this is because the offense by default is set to SHOOTER A for all CPU teams. Why cant ppl understand that so long as that offense is implemented to SHOOTER A, the PG gets to take all the shots on the team????

I'm just offering advice as to how to slow most of them down. If it's too much work to program them too pass the ball more or shoot less than I guess it's not worth it. They aren't going to magically stop shooting if people are having these types of problems.

Enjoy the game how ever way you feel fit.

I didn't realize that you were the same dude who answered the questions earlier in the thread, my fault. But yeah...I changed them and I have noticed a big difference, which is great because that was the main problem I had with the game.

LOL....well personally, if it's this easy to change, and it makes THAT MUCH of a difference, then EA must have ignored it or missed it during their testing phase. They must have tested the game using Steve Nash or other PGs who actually do ball.

I downloaded the Playmakers file from the other thread, and I noticed that the PG's weren't as dominate...well Terry Porter did ball, but Walt Frazier in the next game didn't do as much as usual. (I am doin a throwback season).

So with these new files...for each team, is it set to make the ball go to anybody in particular, or does it just go to who's best or who's primacy is the highest? I am expecting the finals to be between the Lakers and Celtics, and I want to see Larry Bird ballin so that Magic can be motivated to murder him and get MVP.

Which game are you talking about because your post looks like his 360 version of Live rosters and settings?

I think these guy's were talking about the current system's like XBOX, PS2 or the Computer version. Personally, I think his playbooks work great on both versions of Live. I don't have any problems with the PG's on XBOX or XBOX 360 using his playbooks. I think he programmed the playbooks so that the computer teams get the ball to their primary scorer's in both version. There are PG's like Iverson, Arenas and Billups that he designed plays just for them because they are scorer's in real life but guy's like Eric Snow, Rafer Alston or Delonte West mostly look to become passers with his playbooks. They defer to the shooters more often than not.

can anyone write down a list of those plays.etc what the hell is a zipper,a cavalier and stuffs.thankx

FUCKIN WORD.
especially when i play all star games( and i always use east) steve nash gets like 80 points im just like wtf...

but now that i kno i can change playbook and make it more realistic YAY!

Mon Jun 12, 2006 6:49 am

I donno...I changed it, and it worked the first few games. But the last game, I played the Rockets with Olajuwon, Francis, Ming, Horry, and Elie, and Francis shot the ball 28 times, with Olajuwon only shootin 5. It was pitiful

Mon Jun 12, 2006 7:28 am

The best method that I can come up with is to have a bigger guard defend these point guards. Give them space, and make them force up contested jumpshots over lengthy defenders.

I find that this helps, although they'll still just dominate the ball and roast me for 50 points or something, but they'll shoot a lower percentage.

you have a point there...weird though, when i use Shooter A as a set play, my sg is usually open instead of my pg. By the way, i also got owned by Brevin Knight today, 35 points to go along with 5 rebounds and 12 assists...

Mon Jun 12, 2006 6:52 pm

I was able to shutdown Lue, but Salim killed me, something like 25points in 11minutes

I find that if you go for the steal (at all) you will get scored on, but if you just try to keep your defender in front of the PG, they wont score as much... Play good defence and stop whining basically

u right,it leaves the SG open from the 3 point line(thats the default play) but EA did a great job of letting the CPU PG read the defence and react accordingly...as the SG is cutting to the outside perimeter, the PG has the option of either taking the shot or driving depending on how u play him defensively.....for anyone having problems with bum PG's dropping 30 on them its because they are just too close to him and often times trying to go for the steal and this where the CPU PG just blows past them for the easy bucket(ill explain some more)...

this is where u use the DIAMOND AND 1 DEFENCE or 1-3-1 zone because even if ur PG gets beaten by the CPU, the CPU PG is met by 3 or 2 of your players and this is where he will be forced to kick the ball out to the CPU SG floating on the outside perimeter if not he will be blocked by your players....... NO PG in live06 has dropped more than 20 on me unless they were an allstar PG,the rest of dem score 12-15pts..Brevin Knight does rack up assists but he owned u with those 35 points lol

I used to go for the steal a lot in 03-04, and occasionally I still do...but it seems like the Defense doesn't matter. Not only is Francis drivin right past Magic and/or Kobe, but he's DUNKING HARD on Worthy and George Mikan....he had two straight dunks on Worthy that were somethin you ONLY see Carter do to people.

I am gonna just experiment with different things...even with high pressure and double team, the PG still goes off.

I dont freeken understand the playbooks for offense (xbox). I look at the plays and all i see is the positions and in a different formation but dosent give any direction or an animation :|

Wed Jun 14, 2006 3:25 pm

Yesterday I played the Mavs at the Heat with Andrew's roster (modified by myself). J-Will and Payton combined for 15 points. I played 12 minute quarters. It simply depends on your style of playing. Simply pick up your PG and throw him at your opponent's PG. For me it works. When I have him standing and not able to drive I pick up Dirk/Dampier/Diop to go for the defensive rebound. Normally J-Will/Payton will give the ball then to Wade/O'Neal.

Thu Jun 15, 2006 9:05 am

Well i tried the 1-3-1 Zone A defense and its the best results ive gotten i held Rafer Alston to 13pts and Earl Watson to 15pts in my 1st 2 games using this D and it seems the stupid screen plays the computer runs dont work as well i might start enjoying live again. next up in my schedule is Jason Williams ill post results and see if i can hold him. 8-)

Oh god, it was horrible. During the previous offseason (currently in 06-07 season), the Bobcats signed Ben Wallace. Okafor combined with Wallace were rebounding everything (along with Gerald Wallace...) and dunking on me like crazy using power superstar. Along with Brevin Knight's huge game, Ben Wallace had like 15 rebounds and 20 points, Okafor had like 17 rebounds with 25 points, while Gerald Wallace had like 15 and 7 rebounds. I got blown out by like a full 30 points and outrebounded by also thirty rebounds (heck i had no one over 5 rebounds and only one person had 5) . Worst game played by me EVER.

YOU TOO? Yea I was pissed at that one but I just never sag with my PG, play opposing pg tight and when ever he drives I have my bigman shadowing him and he just passes the ball.
