NBA Live 2003 keeps losing my controller during games.......

I have the current drive for my Microsoft Gamepad and the game still looses all controllers for some reason. I can usually play an entire game before it does it. I can not reload a saved game because all controllers are gone. It is making it really hard to enjoy this great game. I would love some help from someone soon. THANKS..................
