First glimpse at NBA Live 07 (PS3)

Postby Andrew on Tue May 09, 2006 3:58 pm

Operation Sports have posted a video clip and screenshot from the PlayStation 3 version of NBA Live 07, which can view here. The screenshot shows Tracy McGrady and Dwyane Wade on the practice court, while the movie runs for just over a minute and showcases some of the animations as well as player detail (including reactions to the action and facial expressions) as well as the detail on the jerseys and environment. All in all, I have to say it looks very impressive aesthetically.

A nice preview...but it's a previeew. They don't mean a lot, especially this early. A lot of animations are still choppy.

Absolutely, but I thought the detail on the facial expressions was pretty cool.

the players faces and bodies seemed a little chunky.
I didnt like how the jerseys jiggled up and down.
im sure EA is working hard to have the best looking game out there. but they really need to work on gameplay for once. id like to finally have a basketball game where players dont block every shot, walk out of bounds for no reason, shoot behind a backboard, or something stupid like that.
This sig was too offensive for the kids.

Very choppy indeed, especially at the peak of the jump shots.

Just watched it again...Tmac kinda looks like an old grampa, especially under his chin region, and his forehead.....but Id still prefer them work on that shit arse chopiness than making them look super duper real.

I wonder if they're going to be moving their faces all the time in-game. That would be really strange to see them wiggling their heads like that. Or maybe it'll be like in 04, where in the profile picture, they were always moving their heads, which was really annoying.

It seems that the two faces were a bit off...Don't know what exactly, but the faces didn't seem right.

Also...who really gives a crap about facial expressions for NBA Live. I hardly even use any replays anymore when I play NBA Live. I don't know when was the last time I used freestyle replay. I play in the most zoomed out setting in which I hardly really see the player's faces. I bet they spent a whole lot of time putting facial expressions and what not, but I would be perfectly fine without it.
Bored.

No question that it isn't the most important detail. I'm not planning on getting a PS3 or XBox 360 at this point and I'd much rather see improvements to gameplay and Dynasty Mode. I just thought it was cool to see what they'd done with the facial expressions even though in the grand scheme of things it's not that important.

lol so true. Nice animations, with noticablely less ice skating... (from EA Canada, eh?)

It looks pleasant, gameplay is my biggest issue, they could give me back Live 2000 graphics without any chewing & I'd be content.

Edit: Watch the official game on Gamespot, that's amazing. No more sliding, no more 45 degree turns, fluidity.

Shit, now I've got to save up for a PS3.

Yeah, I have to save money too... at least for a new computer.
Fist look of '07 is impressive but I strongly agree with that gameplay issue.

Just yesterday I tought it would be cool to have players throwing high 5's on each other when a guy has a chance for a 3-point play or after any other big play - don't know if that was mentioned in this year's wishlist.

So let's hope for more detailed stuff soon...

I'm hoping the PC version will be more like PS3 and less like PS2 otherwise i'll have no hesitation to buying a ps3 straight away.

Its just a first look.
It looks great so far from the video and screen.I just hope they can fix most of the bugs
that were in Live 07.

The video from Operation Sports is looking great. Love the graphics, player movement and player physics. The constant chewing is a little strange though, and the animations will require a fair share of touching up (especially the dunks). Wade looks awesome, but Tracy looks like something out of 2K6-7 :eh:

The video from Gamespot is also looking great. At least from the PS3 standpoint; the PS2 version looks like NBA Live 2003 at best. Which has me worrying that we (PC) might not get any of the good stuff that the next generation versions will have (360 degrees movement, target tracking, feet placement etc).

Could be, unless he's got a deal elsewhere. LeBron was rumoured to be the cover player for 07 in an article that surfaces a couple of months back.
